Toronto Raptors new 3D court

So the Toronto Raptors called a company to paint their name on the baseline. Instead of traditional ways of doing it, the company painted it in a perspective where it looks 3D, depending on where you are sitting.

My thoughts? This has got to be the stupidest thing ever and won't last. It is distracting as hell to do in a sporting event. You can't keep your eye off of it.

Perhaps Toronto is trying to distract folks from the poor product they have on the court.

They do. however, it's computer generated (at least in Holland it is) and not painted onto the pitch (you don't see the boards in replays). The boards show the sponsors. It's looks stupid. Especially when players walk over it or the ball rolls over it.

I think the new raptors court looks shitty. They should switch back to the purple with the dino logo and the court they had back in the VC days.

In Mexico, the 3D signs seem to be made of cloth. Sometimes when a player walks over it it gets messed up a little.

With 3D becoming bigger, I can only expect other franchises will adopt the idea as well. Its 2012, we have flashy lights, theme music and pyro in the entrances now and have for several years. Its a damn wrestling match out there!

We've had it in cricket, soccer and australian rules football at times for years now. Looks really, really bad in a basketball game. Takes attention away from the play. It isn't so bad in other sports imo as it's on a larger field and the play tends to move quicker so you don't notice it until a stopped camera angle.

I think it's ugly as ****. I only like baseline text that spans across most of the baseline, not just some little box that looks weird when you're up close. What is the point of making the fans think there is a 3D logo on the baseline? They don't care. Nobody cares. Toronto reaching for anything to make the news.
