View Full Version : Donovan or Rooney?

Give me Donovan.
He's a better international player and has more goals than Rooney. Rooney is on the verge of being a nobody while Donovan is still winning championships in his league.
Much more versatile and can score.
Rooney's upside is good teammates and very physical player.

Nevertheless,
With all due respect to Landon because I respect what he's accomplished throughout his career, Rooney is just on another level as a footballer. Thanks for coming out though...

success is subjective to some but it's easy to see that people forget Landon's superior play over Rooney in international competition.
Donovan just came off a year where he won championship in league.

So what's your point?
By that logic of thought process, one would be insinuating that Matarazzi is a better player then Cristiano. Marco could have 100 tournaments like he did in 06 and he'd still be a mere rotation player in comparison to Ronaldo who's obviously the better of the 2...

Expect to hear the names Wayne Rooney of England and Landon Donovan of the U.S. often today during the much anticipated match. They are the biggest stars of their respective teams. Both defenses will likely focus on stopping them.
Coincidentally, Rooney

Not sure about that one, Pandev has been very solid in that past few games for Napoli - champions league team and a pretty good one
I dont see Rangers in CL too, u must have mixed it up with fifa manager
And the best Mac. player ever is Darko Pancev, a man who won the European CUP ( now known as CL ) by scoring the winning penalty
He also played for Inter and was considered one of the best strikers in the world
He also won Golden Boot award in 1991

Maradona >>> Messi too right? Better Internationally so it must be true!
GTFO Some guys just get hot in tournaments when it comes to goal scoring like Muller last year.
wayne rooney is 10X the player donovan or any other american ever. even when the man is not scoring, he is moving the ball beautifully and has clinical finishing ability. It's not just his fault england just can't put anything together despite having an absolute assload of talent.
If rooney was american... would we be having this conversation? No because hands down he would be the better player scoring 20 plus goals in the PL no matter what he did internationally. A lot of people think Dempsey is better Donovan anyway and Friedel is probably better than either of them when it comes to performance at position.

Nowhere in that article does he say Messi is equal to him, he says Messi is equal to the hype ie. most players that were compared to Maradona before were overrated.
Anyone over the age of 35 who saw both play will say Maradona is better. Only a 12 year old fanboy would think otherwise.

If anything, the opposite is true. Every good soccer player that comes out of England is over rated to hell.
However, Rooney is better then Donovan to me (unless I just feel like pissing some people off) He's not half of what he's made out to be though.
Nope just some bum who scores 20+ a season when fit in the toughest league in the world and the only reason Man U scored against Barca was due to his brilliance... but who cares about that stuff anyway internationally he's done nothing.
Me GTFO? Yea Muller is a good player, but he does not have the skillset or impact on a game that rooney does. People sell the guy short because he gets a lot of media love but that's cus he's the best player on Man U. I didn't used to know crap about Soccer but I knew who Beckham and Ryan Giggs were because of Man U.
you can try to argue your point all day about Muller being better that Rooney but it make a shit bit of difference being that I've seen hundreds of Man U games and a good 50 Bayern games +world cup etc. I've seen em both and I know who's better.

Like I have said Soccer is not like Basketball there are 10 dudes running around out there on a massive field there are going to be games where you don't have that much of an impact. Look at freakin Messi internationally even he can't get his mojo going many times because he doesn't see the ball nearly as much and internationally it's more unorganized and people you don't play with all the time. Guys like rooney and Messi who are very vision based players need other players to see things that they do and internationally they just don't. I'm not going to give them a free pass, but I do cut them some slack for that. At the end of the day they are considered the best players and should take a share of the blame for their teams failiure to win a major competition.

Villa, Aguero, Suarez, even Zlatan who I don't like would all have been great fits but we had to go and spend more money than those players cost and wound up with the worst possible fit Fernando Torres:facepalm
David Villa is the best striker in the world forced to play out of position on a left wing just to appease Messi's ego. Before Messi demanded to lead the forward line and Villa was the man on top he was scoring with ease for Barca, it's only when Gardiola shoved him on the left that he started playing badly and even when playing badly he still routinely comes up with game changing moments of brilliance. One of the few Barca players besides Affelay and Iniesta I enjoy watching play.

I'd like to see England go all the way but realistically it's not happening this year. Nearly 2/3rds of the squad are new to international play. Our best chance was back in 98 and for the future Euro 2016 will be a good look at how well we've improved.

First assist in 9 world cup games from Rooney, and it came in a losing effort! That creative spark from Rooney doe amirite? XD
Last time America played Italy in the world cup, we tied them, thanks in no small part to the creative industry of Landon Donovan.
Get up to speed England. If you want to be as good as America you have to drop your scrubs like Rooney and put in players who actually get the job done when it matters.
Don't forget USA topped CONCACAF. Honduras with 10 men stopped England easily. Costa Rica just pwned a world cup dark horse Uruguay. I wonder how much England would struggle to qualify out of CONCACAF. They wouldn't get to play easy teams like Montenegro and San Marino.

You're also choosing to ignore that I already stated Rooney has sucked in international competitions but that still doesn't mean that Donovan is on par with him as a player.
