Hubie is alright with me. Been watching him broadcast since the CBS days. Keeps it simple, doesn't overanalyze, and breaks the game down well for casual basketball fans.

Hubie knows his shit.... tells something about the game not the casual fan would notice. Would rather hear his boring voice than Van Gundy and Jackson taking turns agree and disagreeing with one another, then blowing each other on air, and Breen just pointed out what the other two are doing

He butchers names, thats the only gripe I got

I'm shocked by the internet hatred toward Hubie Brown and Jeff Van Gundy.
They are both incredibly smart and incredibly insightful.
Perhaps they are so brilliant that your small minds cannot comprehend them. It's like a cow trying to make sense of an airplane.

I miss Hubie on the NBA drafts. I miss the whole TNT crew on the draft, to be honest. But, I'm sure it would be less enjoyable now since they'd just have their new all-star crew yucking it up the whole time. It was great when it was Ernie, Hubie, John Thompson, Pitino/Majerus, David Aldridge, Cheryl Miller, and of course....Sager.

Exactly. I'd rather listen to Hubie break down a play and point out strategic points of a game that I normally wouldn't notice than "hand down, man down! ", "that's a grown man move!" or "mama there goes that man!" every 5 minutes from Mark Jackson.

Hubie is knowledgeable,no one can deny that.

But when someone's every second sentence begins with "Player X shot 37% from 3 last season" or "Player Y grabbed 7.8 rebounds per game last season which is 0.6 more than he did season before" then he's boring.

Sorry, but all that guy talks about is stats and if I want to see some player's stats I will go to nba.com and check by it myself.

Give me Hubie Brown any day of the week. The guy knows more basketball than 99.9999 percent of announcers out there. He's getting a bit up there in age, but has always been one of my favorite announcers.

If you're turning into basketball and need the color analyst to "make it exciting" for you, well then maybe you need to be watching something else. Hubie Brown is one of the better ones out there, kids. Learn something.

 @ "when you get to my age, twenty" and acting like that is some wise age.

Know your role, young man.

If you think what he's saying isn't spot on, it shows your lack of maturity/intellect about the game of basketball. He may sound senile when he's naming a player, but what he says about the game and what is going on is about as on the money as you can get. Sit back and take notes.

I don't mind Hubie Brown, but he is a tad boring at times and said "you gotta give <blank> a lotta credit" way too much, but he knows the game and is pretty insightful. I love Van Gundy, but I can see how someone would hate him, he has some pretty extreme opinions that he likes to embellish on even more for entertainments sake. Mark Jackson was pretty bad, but I had nothing against the guy, and it was always humorous when him and Van Gundy got into it.

I actually most of the bball commentators like Kerr, Harlan, Collins, Albert etc., or at least have nothing against them. But I would much rather have Barkley Kenny and EJ (+ Cwebb) at the half or post game because they are pretty much the most entertaining. I'll pass on Wilbon John Barry & Magic over the TNT crew anyday as I've laughed my ass off many a time, and their usually the most entertaining on the nights that aren't really big time games (i.e. Thu night Warriors vs. Thunder or something).

wow, that was awesome. :lol

i haven't heard hubie for a couple years but i still remember him fondly. because i'm mainly not listening to the broadcast for entertainment... i'm watching the GAME for entertainment. broadcast teams should be basically about information, but some of these guys, like jackson, got the idea that they were entertainers. and maybe the lowest breed of entertainer there is- someone whose only relevancy is to make remarks about the entertainment that people actually tuned in to watch, meanwhile spewing a bunch of the same cliches over and over again.

i'm just glad jackson seems to be a good coach, because he was awful as a color guy. hubie brown is a true professional.

I love his tendency to phrase everything in the second-person ("Now you're in trouble - you've got to watch the shot clock in a situation like this").

Years ago I was in a bar watching some inconsequential game between the Cavs and somebody else. No one was really paying attention even though the volume was kind of cranked. All of a sudden we hear Hubie blurt out "Chris Gatling! You gotta love this guy!". We all look at the tv and there's Gatling sitting ON THE BENCH staring into space. I don't know if it's the way Hubie said it, or if people were laughing at Gatling's potato-shaped scar-head, but the bar (quiet up until then) exploded in laughter.

But I love me some Hubie.

I enjoy listening to Hubie cover a game.

The only thing that irritates me is he calls Kevin Durant Kevin Garnett almost every game, but he is one of the older guys doing games so that is understandable.

He still knows the game as well or better than any other analyst.

Foreal. I was watching a game that Doug Collins was announcing the other day and he was talking about how great Hubie is and how he learns something from him every time he talks to him. I think Hubie and Collins are unreal. You can tell that they are excellent teachers. I think Van Gundy is great too. He likes to joke around more than the other two but he still tries to teach. Jackson is awful. He might be one of the worst ever. Almost any ex player/color man is better than he is. It's really bad. Mark Jackson was a guy who I really liked as a player. It wasn't until he became a head coach and a commentator that I realized that he was a total moron.

Hubie was just awful last night. He clearly still has a grudge against us. But that doesn't matter.

His analysis was straight up dreadful. He only referred to Steals, Blocks and Rebounds when talking about defense ("Duncan, a great defender with the 10 boards", "Kobe has 2 steals already, and he can average 6 boards per game, aiight"). He just sounded a little confused out there.

Not trying to hate. He used to be very good -- I remember loving his commentary in the 05 Finals. But it's too fast for him now.

I guess his analysis does appeal to the casual fan though. He's basically introducing the game to the listeners.

Jeff Van Gundy, even with his flaws, is more insightful. And he usually has some good stories from his coaching days/doesn't mind calling people out.

Mark Jackson is horrible. Maybe the worst in America.
