View Full Version : Phoenix Suns sign Michael Redd

Rowe

Michael Redd, who has a scary knee history, worked out for the Suns at US Airways Center on Tuesday, and the Suns are expected to sign the 32-year-old today to address their need for scoring and shooting.

Redd likely would not play immediately as he learns the Suns' system and works into playing shape.

The Suns have a renowned medical staff, including athletic trainers who have revived players such as Antonio McDyess, Shaquille O'Neal and Grant Hill.

Wont be too long before hes back averaging 20 PPG in Phoenix thanks to their medical staff. Good signing for Phoenix.

Suns are looking for a scoring option and Redd could be it. Providing he is healthy and embraces a 20ppg role, this forces either Dudley or Hill on to the bench.

If I wanted the team to contend I'd be happy with this, but I'd rather them rebuild so its just a signing that shows the team is still headed in the wrong direction.

I feel they don't want to rebuild yet as long they have Nash. Whether it's simply out of respect for him or because they don't want fans to get the impression they're completely rebuilding and wasting Nash's last few years left - I mean, they almost made the playoffs last season so it's not like they're completely terrible.

Their medical staff should get an ESPY or something if they somehow make Redd serviceable again.

Glad to see somebody took a chance on him. Surprised more didn't. When heathly he is one of he best shooters around. Just depends oh how heathly he can ever be again.

Great signing IMO, low risk, potentially high reward if the Suns can really get him healthy again.

Is Nash still Nash?

Yes he is. However the glaring lack of scorers on the team is making him force the issue.
Redd was at one time one of the best wing scorers in the league. If Aaron Nelson and his team can get Redd close to what he was it could really swing the fortunes of the team.
I wouldn't say contender but if he's healthy they'll give alot of teams a scare.

Which would be the worst thing possible for the Suns. BRB, drafting in the 11-14 range every single year because team is mediocre, not good enough for the playoffs, not bad enough for the lottery. This Suns team isn't scaring anyone, if they win games it'll be due to beating up on equally shitty teams, delaying the inevitable and putting them into basketball purgatory instead of simply blowing it all up and coming out with top draft picks.

Hope they can get him going again! He could be a nice fit if he can revive himself. Thumbs up to the Suns for taking a chance. Get healthy, Michael!

If they could do it for Grant Hill, Redd shouldn't be too much of a challenge.

Good luck. He looked like his body had completely failed him the last two years. And I'm a Bucks fan. Hope you aren't expecting too much.

They definitely should sign Oden and Roy, maybe get Yao while they are at it.

Yao
Oden
Whatever
Roy
Nash

Lol, the Suns medical staff will have to work OT, 2OT, 3OT all day every day to prevent that lineup from collapsing after each game.

Redd would obviously come off the bench. With his age, conditioning and history of injuries, they'll be looking for some instant offense from him, not a starting role.

That is probably what everyone said when we acquired Hill.

Good move for both Redd and Phoenix. I think Redd still has some left in the tank as the strictly a shooter for 20-25 mpg. He was an amazing shooter before and he should still be (even after all those injuries). No other team has the history of reviving so many players' careers as Phoenix, so he could get that comeback he needs.

That is probably what everyone said when we acquired Hill.

Not the case. Hill had just come off a season where he started 64 games (out of 65 appearances) for Orlando and was expected to step right into the lineup.

Redd hasn't played that many games total since 2007-08.

There's a huge difference in what will and should be expected from him.

Congrad's to Mike !!!

career avg 20 ppg :applause:

I expected the Lakers or Heat to go after him , but suspect they might of been waiting till Feb to pull the trigger

PHX took him , and I hope he produces for them.
Nash a perfect setup man for him .... and a huge upgrade over Carter..

As a Suns fan I like this signing. I don't expect him to be anything amazing, but we really need some kind of spark on offense...

This has been the first time in years I've had to say our offense is really looking pretty horrible right now...

Suns should just become the mechanics of the NBA, fix'em and trade'em for value.

"Hey guys, I got a 2007 Oden, limited mileage although he looks to be about 54 years old, total overhaul was done, completely healthy and ready to rock."

Side note: Phoenix should give Roy robotic knees and revive oden's dead body
