Here's the deal with the media. They'll always hype up today's players to get people interested in watching NBA otherwise people will just sleep on the idea "Jordan/Kareem/Wilt/Russell as the greatest ever" so all modern players are just "meh, not interesting enough". It's not fair for players from any era.

Anyway, KD's great but I think that humbleness might be a flaw in competitive basketball. Need to have that alpha male attitude.

Yeah, but KD has almost NO post game. If you want to say KD is a better pure shooter, ok. That's fine. But an all around scoring threat. This is not even close.

Jordan wasn't the shooter that Bird was either, but he was still a better scorer.

Consider this: Let's not say Durant has no post game or Jordan's range wasn't as good as Durant's. Everyone has their own way to score.

Talk when Durant average 30PPG for over ten years. It's too early to compare.

Jordan averaged more points in his 3rd year than Durant ever has.

Lebron averaged more points in his 3rd year than Durant ever has.

"Will become" is the key phrase. He CAN, but both of them were already scoring more at the same amount of time in the league. Still, not a crazy prediction, it just seems like ppl forget Jordan's 37+ and Lebron 31+ in their 3rd years.

Nope. I don't think Durant is talented enough to become a better scorer than MJ. People are really forgetting how good that man was. He got to the rack at will, he was a freak athlete that was also the most skilled player in the game. He was able to post up and penetrate the defense so easily that his impact was equal to that of the great center plus the ability to create his own shot in the clutch. Durant has done nothing to show he will have one of the post games in the history of the sport and he lacks the innate ability to break down defenses like MJ.

That is why you have series where Durant gets can't get the ball or has little impact on the game.

Durant has never scored 50 points in a game. Not once. His career high is 47. After four full seasons he has zero 50 point games. After four full seasons, Jordan had 17 50+ games. Some may sputter "b-b-b-b-but Durant started younger!". Boo hoo. He's at age 23, right? Jordan had two 50+ games by then. BTW Jordan scored 37.1 PPG at age 23. Plus, MJ scored 63 points in the playoffs (most ever) against the legendary Boston Celtics. Durant won't be a better scorer than prime Kobe Bryant, let alone Michael Jordan.

The only thing that he has over Jordan right now is his ability to shoot - but lots of other great scorers have had the same advantage over Jordan, however that fact did not make them better scorers than Jordan.

Finishing around the hoop, mid range, post up, triple threat, beating guys off the dribble, dribbling, coming off screens, go to moves....those things Jordan is at least equal to Durant, and in most cases better.

For what it's worth, Jordan shot a lot more than Durant ever has to average 37.1.

Jordan averaged 37.1 his 3rd year on 27.8 FGA and 11.8 FTA. In Durant's 3rd year he averaged 30.1 on 20.3 FGA and 10.2 FTA

I think he can become really close if he puts on weight. Dude would work in the post more and he wouldn't struggle so much with guys bodying him up/being physical. Durant is a better shooter than than both Lebron and Wade, but I don't think I can definitively call him the better scorer. I'll wait a postseason or two and see how consistent he is vs. good defenses.

He's got to put on more weight though.

Anything for ratings.

could possibly become... okay.

has the tools to become... sure. with a crapload of development and work.

Will become... that's just dumb.

he's nowhere close to either Kobe or Jordan in their primes. Hell, he's still not come close to what Iverson did his first few years in the league, or T-MAC in his prime.

Jordan could give it to you any which way you wanted it. Inside, outside. Dunks, layups, post, midrange, long distance.

KD is a great shooter that is tall with long arms. Nothing more at this point.

the rules are tailor made for Durant to score a ton. He will be a prolific scorer for the next 10 years.

There are a lot of players now who can score nearly 25 a night though.

Phil Jackson, Craig Hodges, Joe Dumars etc. and a lot of others who played with MJ and coached today all say he would have no problem averaging 40 a game with the current rules in place. His defense wouldn't have been as good since he couldn't use his hands as much but look at the people who can FT's so easily today? MJ would get free throws all game long and with less contact, he would have more energy as well.

I watch a lot of games today and the old games too. There is no resistance on the perimeter now, we got great athletes today but everybody looks extra fast when they move freely and don't get hit.

Did you watch the season though? It's was ugly Kobe ball and not effective at all. 28 shots a game? Arenas proved that scoring over 30 a game doesn't mean you have to be all that special.

Why do people love to try to overrate every accomplishment a player does? Damn allow the mans career to play out. He doesn't have the post game of jordan, he doesn't attack the basket like jordan. His midrange game isn't on par with jordan. Durants better than jordan at. Shooting the 3.

But please okc fans. I like the thunder. And respect durant. Especially seeing as how he didn't pull a bich move and try to join up with other great players like litterraly every other star player in the nba. I'm even pulling for them to win the championship if the bulls don't get it.

But please don't be like the lebron fans, the wade fans, the kobe fans, etc.
