View Full Version : Blake Griffin Is Starting to Annoy Me

Watching his dude play this season had made me more and more annoyed with him. He seems to be whining and complaining to the refs on every play. He'll act like he was fouled or pushed on every shot or rebound attempt and look at the refs expecting a call. It's getting annoying and he's going to need to stop it. Does anyone here see the same things I see or am I being too judgmental?

aka the CP effect. West also turned really annoying when he was a hornet. As a pacer he seems to have toned it down but players tend to copy their pgs attitude. Expect more whining flopping and "you're lucky he's holding me back" type situations

Haters gonna hate? I loved this guy's game last season. He was exciting to watch and liked he never backed down from anyone. This year he seems to be looking for a call on every damn play. He needs to just play the damn game and let the refs do their jobs. He doesn't need to be a whining cry baby. He gets annoying.

He kind of runs into a crowd of players taller than him and when he loses the rebound or it's tipped away he thinks it's unfair. It is reminiscent of DeMarcus Cousins, but I think Blake will eventually get on the ball. Chris Paul will get on his ass eventually about that.

I agree with the assertion that he is showing some immaturity this season, and the ref complaining is indeed a bad habit that will continue to annoy a lot of people...

Blake seemed way more composed in his ego last year... maybe because he didn't buy into his own hype yet. I'm not saying he wasn't scrappy and stood tall against opposition (qualities I admire) but the shit he is pulling now is a little ugly to see out there on the court....maybe I'm overreacting because its been five games and here I thought I was seeing another Ducanesque player emerge in his matureness and leadership. Guy still has a long way to go.

But why all the hate for CP3? Dude is a winner by heart, and trust me, it will rub off on the other players in a good way. One of the most competitive players I've seen, a herald back to basketball personalities of the 80s/90s era.

If you expect him to be like Duncan you're setting the bar high. Griffin is a good and mature young leader for his age etc... but Duncan came into the league a mature man. Griffin is more like a playful big kid. I agree his whining does get annoying but how many 22 year old 2nd year players are as mature as a Duncan for example?

Perhaps the 'Duncanesque' label was going way overboard and was a little naive. To answer your rhetorical question, he's one of a kind in that regard haha. To be more specific, I really meant he conveyed some qualities that were reminiscent of guys who let their game do the talking. There were some flashes of maturity from last year that I liked. for example, I remember Odom getting in an scuffle with Griffin for a rebound at the end of a game, and Griffin is the one who kept his cool and was reserved. Odom looked like an idiot ( which he kinda is) And Griffin wasn't going to back down to his 'senior' and let Odom push him around and have his way just because the game was about over then. A sign of a true winner's mentality, and sadly something rare in the league these days.

Since the start of the season I'm seeing more flops, and decent amount of complaining, and some minor things to nitpick on like flexing after a dunk. I understand though. He's young and and has a goofy laidback off court personality, and he is probably really hyped up on the recent success he has been having... not only individually, but his whole team ( Clippers contender talk?, thats a landmark for such a historically awful team) I would like to think Blake is slowly transcending this skeptical negativism of being just another 'flash player' ( I still hold against people that think he is going to be Amare 2.0.) into a truly great superstar.

That's what happens when you're the star of a big market team that nobody expects to accomplish jackshit. All parades, no rain.

If people actually start to expect results, he's gonna have a rude awakening when he comes up short.

he seems more arrogant this year, nothing too bad.

its his over dribbling that irritates me. its cool that hes a powerful big man, who can handle the ball, but at the same time, theres a reason why powerful big men dont usually handle the ball like him. its because its not the most effective way of attacking a defensive player.

and hes settling for that mid range jumper a ton.

its normal for a young player to be overly eager to showcase a new move. and he will learn in time, to just use the most effective moves, rather than just the flashiest.

Repped. Spot on post. I think it comes from him trying way too hard to showcase his improved skills rather than just playing his game.

There was an odd sequence in tonight's game vs Rockets, after the Rockets scored, Griffin went to the baseline to inbound the ball, but held on to it when the ref asked for it. Kept holding on to it for a few seconds, staring at the ref, then finally passed it over. Was probably sulking from a previous play where he complained that he got fouled.

He had a blatant goaltend tonight where he blocked a shot by sticking his arm through the net, I don't see him complaining about that missed call

He gets some fame and it gets to his head. He can't be learning good things from CP3 either he is well known for flopping and bitching at refs. Just how most of the stars in these league are.

Most great players have some sort of cockiness in them(Kobe, Shaq, MJ, KG, etc...). IMO, their arrogance is one of the many reasons why they became succesful....

yeah, but with blake you get a sense that he's really buying into his own hype and fact of the matter is he's never even seen the playoffs. mj and kg weren't exactly arrogant on the court . .. more like intense. it wasn't about proving how great they were, it was about winning. honestly, shaq's and kobe's egos were probably somewhat of a hindrance. shaq was lazy about improving his game, particularly his shooting, and always threw teammates under buses which led to poisonous locker rooms because of his ego. kobe has always had a tendency to chuck because he thinks a stupid shot by him is better than trying to get his teammates involved sometimes. i don't think blake's cockiness is a good thing.

plus blake still has ways to go with his game. still a crap defender. still unpolished. still no jump shot.

and i say this as a fan of his game. he has best player in the league potential. but he should show some humility. he will be a better player for it.

this is kind of an issue i'm having with the knicks this season. carmelo is the way superior player, but he is still the guy who was willing to go out this season and work on his flaws (bad team defense and ball stopping). amare on the other hand is very cocky and doesn't seem to be able to acknowledge that there are things he needs to work on. not a good attitude.

he is acting like he owns the place. he doesn't.
also, his numbers have been great, but he doesn't seem to be all over the place quite like last year. Last year he made opposing defenses say "oh F***!" this year I don't sense that.

yeh, the over-dribbling is bad, though in Blake's defense I've seen it lead to some baskets. Will short arms really keep him from being an adequate defender? You'd think quickness/strength/agility/leaping ability would be enough.

Offensively he is fun to watch, though a bit out of control at times. I'd like to see a little more patience and a lot less crazy off balance shots.

Blake's maturation will be the main factor in his future as a player. If he matures before his elite athleticism declines, he can become the Barkley-like beast we've imagined. Right now, however, he is very delayed. He seems like a teenager. When he matures his game will mature. The only question is when.

na only idiots didnt see this coming. Hes the next lebron. And i think its hard for others to play with players like him. So it could be his downfall. People think attitude doesnt matter when IMO it does. Coz it will affect his teammates esp if they dont want anymore playing with him.

im not annoyed with his complaining to the refs. name me a star who doesn't act like a diva to the refs.

His attitude though... there was one play that i remember vividly in the last Clippers game. The ref was trying to give him the ball to inbound it and he didn't even grab it. He was complaining about some play or call the whole time and delayed the game in an awkward fashion.

That's just something he's gotta clean up because that stuff can drag a team down.
