Portugese are a mixture of Celts (northern european irish scottish to you idiots out there) and Iberians (native white people from the Iberian peninsula) That is what modern portugese are descended from. Yes. I was thinking more along the lines of race (regardless of how artificial races are). I mean most people are of mixed ethnicity. I am. But people would laugh if I said I was mixed because we usually think of race, not ethnicity.

I believe this thread was intended for women of mixed "race" not ethnicity. Because again, someone such as myself is of mixed ethnicity, but a pale ass eastern Euro. lol

So the reason people were up in arms (lol) was because other posters were posting pics of women who were simply Italian, Spanish, etc. when they thought this was a post of mixed race (again we usually use the term "mixed" to identify those of multiple "races").

So if Lima, is Japanese, Native American, etc. ethnicity, then ya, she's mixed no matter which way you look at it.

That is such an oversimplified way to look at it. Someone with darker skin isn't instantly excluded as being white.

That's the problem with using terms as white, black, brown, etc. While many people from Portugal, Spain, Italy have some sort of lineage in North Africa for example, many darker skinned people of those countries have none whatsoever. Their lineage comes from tribes that have been in Europe since forever. Ethnic Europeans are considered white. It doesn't matter if Portuguese people are darker than Swedish people. Still white unless they have ancestry that isn't considered white. You can say they are of a different ethnicity than other Portuguese people....but as a race, they're still white.

Also, even the Italians with black hair and darker features consider themselves white because most of their history that involves northern Africans or blacks happened centuries ago. Their current identity has been for so long that they no longer view themselves as anything, but white. That's why using race is so confusing or outright stupid, because it's a cultural construct, not some biologically accurate system of identification. Most of those people consider themselves to be just as white as people from northern Europe. In fact, people from Port, Spain, Italy are the most racist against other races.

Are you gonna call a Chinese person not Asian because they are lighter than someone from Taiwan? Are you gonna call someone from one country in Africa not black because he's a little lighter than someone from another African country?

Any and all races do not include only one shade of skin tone. Race is purely cultural.

I'd also say, looking at your pics, the first girl in pink has either lineage from the east or indigenous peoples of South America. 3rd pic? Looks definitely to have some sort of lineage from indigenous peoples of South America. A lot of those mixed peoples have immigrated back to Portugal.

No, in the racial sense, skin color is pretty set in stone. White can be anything from very pale to a darker olive skin. People who are ethnically 100% European are considered white. There really is no room for argument because this is a cultural/social discussion and the peoples of those areas have determined how they are to be viewed in the racial sense.

Take Portugal for instance. Some people here seem to think they aren't white...or the native Portuguese as one poster put it aren't (they're the same people lol). Then why do the Portuguese themselves, as well as their gov't, call themselves white? Why if you look at the statistics done by their government they say whites are above 90%?

And again, these darker skinned people are considered to be part of that white percentage. Most Portuguese are in fact more tanned and have dark hair (ie. Ronaldo) so obviously they would have to be for the gov'ts and other studies to be mathematically correct.
