View Full Version : Derrick Rose will be the next MJ

Im saying this not because im a Rose homer but this is the plain truth. This guy's work ethic, attitude, passion and drive for the game is on MJ/Kobe level. He was 22yo when he won MVP can you just imagine that? Lebron was 24 and people was saying he will dominate the next decade (no doubt he would but can he win championships?) I remembered when people would leave Rose open because he can't shoot, but within a summer he improved his 3pt shot by an incredible 50%. He's that driven.

Anyway players that are top legend:

Magic/Bird - MJ - Kobe/Shaq - next in line will be Rose.

Michael Jordan averaged 28/7/6/2/1 on 52% FG as a rookie. Michael Jordan at 23 (the age Derrick Rose is at currently) averaged 37/5/5/3/2 on 48% FG. Michael Jordan was clearly the best player in the NBA by the end of his 3rd season; Derrick Rose was not and is not the best right now.

Per 36 doesn't mean as much as you are making it out to in this case. I saw Irving live a week or so ago (first live game I ever saw! ) against the Wolves, he's a nice young player but it's obvious Rose is on another level. Rose plays on a much better team, I guarantee you Rose would put up some crazy stats on the current Cavs team.

No one is the next MJ. Kobe Bryant is a cheap imitation while also being the closest thing we have seen at the same time.

Rose is certainly looking like he is next up to be the undisputed best player in the game.

People keep saying Lebron but dude is in his 9th season, no chip yet, and openly chose to go from Batman to Robin.

Rose is the next in line to the throne with Kevin Durant about even or a smudge behind.

(e)
01-15-2012, 10:34 PM
No.

If you want to bring the similarities in with some of the crazy layups Rose does is similar to what Jordan did, then yeah, but as a complete player? Fck no!

Rose is Rose, and isn't anywhere near as talented as MJ was. Rose does have some crazy motivation though, and that will make him one of the greats, but definitely not MJ level.

Rose needs to become a deadly mid-range shooter if he wants to become a good playoffs performer. Bigger and taller defenders are capable of shutting him down in the post season.

They play two different positions. Rose, although expected to take a lot of shots due to the Bulls lack of offense, is not expected to put up 2 guard numbers. Moreover, MJ was considerably taller. Thus, it is really hard to compare the two of them. But you are definitely right about one thing.... Rose and his work ethic. Thus, I would not ever doubt a man who is willing to work his arse off for something.

That said, if Rose becomes a 5, 6 or 7 time Champion.... yes, he will likely be in that rarified air. Maybe not above MJ but likely in present company. Championships will be his key.

Rose will be an alltime great. He will be compared to MJ A LOT before his career is over. I read an article a month ago talking about how Rose is becoming REALLY POPULAR overseas. Mostly asia. Jordan was Jordan because he expanded basketball all over the world, people used to watch him in countries like India, China etc. when they didnt even understand the game. The same thing will happen with DRose. He will become a global icon, especially in Asia. Kobe became famous late in his career, and LeBron never really got that much hype overseas. DRose at 23, is creating A LOT of hype. There is a reason why Adidas is going to sign him to a 250mil contract. MJ made Nike famous, and Rose will make Addidas famous. Addidas knows they found gold in Rose and will try to expand him all around the world. So yes, Rose will be the next MJ in respect to popularity.

In terms of an NBA player, Rose has the same drive that Jordan had. He continues to get better and better. People said he couldnt shoot at all, couldnt shoot 3's, couldnt make free throws, couldnt be a good passser, couldnt be the mvp, couldnt be a good defender etc. and he keeps proving people wrong, time and time again. Reminds me a lot of MJ. The only person in the NBA that has the same drive is Kobe.

With that all said, yes, Rose will be the next MJ. Everything was set perfectly for him, he got drafted into his hometown by a 1.7% chance, became the youngest MVP and continues to become better and better.

I would not be laughing so hard. Not 1, not 2, no 3, not 4, but 8 points, in the 4th quarter!

You talking about Roses FG% against LeBron?

Glide2keva

I love how Heat fans consider it an accomplishment cause they Beat the Bulls. But fail to bring up that loss to the mavs...

That's like laughing at someone cause they got raped in jail before you...But that's the difference...They don't care about winning, just having something to show off.
Yeah, I can see if they won the damn thing, but they lost and lost while lebron stunk it up in crunch time, yet they want to laugh at Rose.

Idiots.

He choked in the NCAA Finals. Rose also has a history of mentally breaking down and playing like a p*ssy in the biggest game of his career. He's also a cheated on his SAT test.

He's the Anti Jordan.

Love how you word it as if Rose is a 29 year old player. Lebron was just now getting to the Finals around the time Rose is at now...He got his team to the playoffs since his rookie year, and got his team to the ECF in his THIRD YEAR, WHILE winning MVP btw....So a finals trip is very likely at this point.

Magic/Bird - MJ - Kobe/Shaq - next in line will be Rose.

you mean who will be the next Kobe.

We found the next MJ already.

You probably didn't even watch the whole series anyway, because you knew deep down that the Bulls didn't have a chance. :lol

Notice the rush of lebron fans that entered this thread? They do this with every rose thread. Why do they get so insecure when it comes to rose? I know why, it's because rose is what all these fans wanted lebron to be, but so far he has turned out to be a failure. He has great talent, but never made the effort and doesn't have the heart and will to be great. And that's what rose has, heart and talent along with hard work. If I was a lebron fan I would be hating on rose too, but these guys need to understand that life isn't fair and at the end rose will be known as a better player than lebron ever was.

LeBron at the age of 23 yrs.old. 30-8-7. He took the Celtics into 7 games in the 2008 NBA Playoffs while Rose magically disappeared in the 2011 ECF. He got LeBrowned.

I don't see what's wrong with this thread. The OP never said that Derrick Rose will be better or as good as Michael Jordan. The OP said that he will be great and will be mentioned with the likes of Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson, Larry Bird, and Kobe Bryant. I see nothing wrong with saying that because I completely agree with it.
