I'd take Joel Anthony over washed up Eddy Curry any given day. Anthony at least hustles and can play some solid (not spectacular) defense.
Nevertheless.. best of the luck to Curry.

wat are you guys smoking? his last descent season in 08 he shot .559 and scored 13 points playing 23 minutes. In 07 he shot .69 in 28 minutes and scoring 15.5 points.

and clearly his weight is the main thing thats holding him back from being a solid starter...you dont think pat riley would allow this guy on the team if he wasnt motivated to get in shape and play better?

He'll score some, stand around some and look confused when there are rebounds to grab or defense to play. Then he'll tweak something and not play for a month.

We've seen it before, we know how the story goes.

I think there's a reason no other NBA team had interest in Curry, it just shows that the Heat are desperate to upgrade their one of their two weak spots on their roster.

Seems he has the "have to prove people wrong" mentality so either he will, or he'll fail.

He's lost 100 pounds? Yeah right... maybe 30 pounds. There's no way between those two pictures that's a 100 pound difference. Hasn't he ever been to a gym? He could probably be a beast if he lifted weights and got into real shape.

He looks much better. Look at this video:

It s funny how people keep saying he will be a bum and everything without even seeing him play. They can as if they saw his workouts and practices with Heat. I m not saying, he will come out and make big things happen, but stop making these useless statements.

I don't understand how a professional athlete, who has all the money he needs to eat healthy and it still be great food, has all the personal trainers and coaches he could need, and is being paid millions to just get in shape and play a sport, can still be so fat. In those pictures it looks like he just went on a diet and lost like 20 pounds, it doesn't look like he's really been working out or doing conditioning or changing his muscle definition or anything.

I'm not a Bulls fan, but I had high hopes for them as well. I mean, the potential on that team was staggering. It's crazy how a few short years later the team reached the elite status I thought they would, only with a completely different roster :lol

Anyway, the redemption/return to glory story is always nice, so i'm pulling for Curry, but i'm not holding my breath.

While yes he is still fat, he is never going to be a ripped athelte by any means. The Heat got him knowing that it's not likely he will get large minutes either.

If he can come in for 15mins a game, and give them something down at the post, it adds another dimension to the Heat.

I think he'll go ok for the Heat. I just can't see his body holding up though, I predict he will get injured within the first month or so.

Why do you say that? I would think that he's more likely to contribute in Miami where the fact that his teammates play so good on D should minimize his defensive shortcomings.

We'll see whose right, but in my opinion he picked the perfect landing spot. With the Head he has the potential to help a lot more than another defense only big who could provide no offense would.

Well that, and the $50+ million contract he signed with the Knicks has finally expired and he knows that getting in shape and playing well is his only chance at another big payday.

Pointguard

He's maturer now... you can tell how he tries to fit in. He's always had among the best post moves for a center and a very good touch to boot. I think his role is a scoring punch off the bench, if everything works out right. He is virtually the exact opposite of Joel Anthony, so he presents a different look.

If he goes for offensive boards, with his touch, Miami has a winner. When, or if, he gets his wind, he's a top five scoring center in the league - sobeit, not much else. But credit Riley with his strict dietary and discipline program to find and resuscitate a guy like this.

Huh? You realize he was on a rookie contract at one point, and had to "try as hard as he could" to get that initial 50 million pay day. And he still never rebounded.

Trust me Heaters, it's not happening.

I was more referring to his contributions overall instead of just rebounding. Its well known that hitting the boards isn't his strength, but I at least expect him to give more effort at it as he tries to earn his next payday.

Additionally the Heat are uniquely positioned to excel without big rebound numbers from him, as their swingmen are excellent rebounders and you don't lose much on the boards by playing him since the starter at the 5 spot is also a poor rebounder.

I liked Curry when he was on the Knicks. Granted I hate the trade Isiah made to acquire Curry but that's a moot point. He didn't rebound, block shots, play post d or pass much when he was on the Knicks but he was a force down low. He was almost an All star one year.

Hopefully he can rebound more and play better post D since the heat don't need him to score much. He will come in handy against the bigger centers in the league.

It seems like they are trying to specialize their C position to me, when they need defense Anthony will get more minutes, when they need more offense from the C spot they will bring Curry in. It's much harder to shade LeBron or Wade if Curry is down low with Bosh in the high post, because Curry will finish at the basket which Anthony struggles with.

They defended Bynum really well yesterday with Anthony despite giving up so much size, they swarm and recover better than any team in the league.

No, Curry is here for low-post offense.
