View Full Version : Who has produced better highlight dunks, Vince Carter or Blake Griffin?

Both have put up insane dunks since they entered the league.

Discuss. :pimp:

Correct. There's little to discussion here...

On the other hand, Blake Griffin fans are annoying as anybody's.

I don't understand how somebody can ask this question

Nothing against Blake, who's phenomenal, but VC as a finisher is in a league all his own. Greatest leaper of all-time + freakishly long arms + a very creative mind = nobody else has a shot.

Carter by far. The most creative in game dunker of all time. Blake might eventually be top 10 or even top 5 all time but right now it's not even close. I'd have Carter at an easy #1 and then a collection of guys at #2, Jordan, Erving, Nique, Kemp.

Easily Vince. By far the best in game dunker ever. To be fair, Blake's career is young and obviously he's a dynamic dunker but I don't think he will attain the level of Vince's highlights.

Blake is more on Kemp's and Wilkins level. A mixture of power and athleticism.

Vince has a spice of creativity which puts him above the rest.

Blake is better at dunking in traffic because of his size, but over 1 player and especially in a fast brake situation VC is the best at creating something while in the air. His hangtime is maybe only rivaled by MJ and 'Nique.

There's no contest from Theo or David. Maybe some of you are suffering from nostalgia, you can't honestly say those two dunks are better than anything Blake has done...
I don't think the Ratliff and Robinson dunks are better than the Perkins and Mozgov dunks, but they are better than a lot of other dunks Griffin has completed. So, to say they're not better than anything Blake has done would be shortsighted. I think that poster was just getting the ball rolling. One fellow asked for great dunks from Carter's first two seasons that compare to "Blake's Mozgov, Perkins, and numerous others" so some links were provided.

This doesn't have any true bearing on those two dunks (Robinson and Ratliff's) but 1) When was the last time we saw David Robinson leave his feet to block a shot only to pull back mid-challenge? and 2) When's the last time we saw Theo Ratliff do anything but challenge a shot with two hands up in the air, regardless of how late he arrived on the scene? Purely hypothetical, but had those two truly challenged, I feel the result very well may have been the same.

Thankfully, there are dozens upon dozens of other Carter facials to make up for the two not containing challenges. Further, I don't find the greatest dunker simply to be the one who has completed the best In-Your-Face dunks. I really enjoy Blake Griffin's dunks, but in terms of the all around dunk package, he's not on Vince's level. As others have said, Vince's creativity has been unparalleled throughout history. He seemed willing to attempt anything and everything in any given situation. Even if we continue to only use Vince's first two years versus Blake's first two years, I'd take Vince in a landslide, all the while admitting Blake Griffin is my favorite dunker since Vince.

Blake is top 3 in total dunks this year and last- only had two of those 'dunks' and you gonna discredit him for that.

This has to be one of the dumbest, most idiotic threads I have ever seen here. Are you kidding me? Say what you want about Vince Carter's work ethic, but the man was a human highlight reel. He's the best dunker ever.

Griffin's a good dunker in his own right, but I don't think he'll go down as one of the best one's ever. He's got alligator arms, and like it or not that makes SOME of his dunks look less impressive. Can you imagine how ridiculous he'd be if he actually had a respectable wingspan?

I respectfully disagree with parts of the above paragraph. I do believe he'll go down as one of the best dunkers of all-time. Barring a hops-stealing injury this year or next, there's no doubt in my mind he'll be considered one of the greatest dunkers in NBA history. I suppose I'd have to see which dunks Griffin completes that you find are hurt due to his arm length. I haven't had that feel. I think his dunks are pretty incredible regardless of whether his arms are too short or too long or whatever.

Its crazy that vince kept up at such a high level of dunking for 8 or 9 years. I'm not sure BG will be able to maintain that long, given his size and previous knee problems.

Your homerism is making you look bad in this thread. It was a loaded question to begin with.

Vince Carter is my favorite in game dunker off all time. His windmills are one of a kind! Blake is not even close when it comes to style!

Griffin can throw down, but you will NEVER see him fly through the air with the grace and finesse, and at the same time even anger, that Vince shows is this dunk alone.

That about sums it up. I very much enjoy Griffin's dunks, but to this point they're not on Carter's level. That's not a criticism of Griffin though. Truly. It's like saying someone's not as good of a basketball player as Michael Jordan.

When it's all said and done Blake will pull off some impressive dunks, but won't have any of the style Vince had.

It's A VC3!!!

Vince Carter, and the closest person near his dunking ability is located at Neptune, light years away.

Blake Griffin will consistently make the highlight reel, but he will never match Vince Carter..

Its not even close.
