View Full Version : Lebron Threatens To Beat Up Fan

LeBron just got into a verbal altercation with a fan. Spoke to the fan. Wanted to give Heat PR time to comment on the LeBron fan altercation. I’ll update you if they end up doing so, but here’s the story.
I saw a Wizards fan and LeBron in a heated conversation on the sideline during the game Friday night. I spoke to the fan and got his side.
Fan Bob Moore made a comment to LeBron about Delonte West and LeBron’s mom… [According] to Moore, LeBron said "The only reason you talk s*** is because you know I can’t come off the court right now and beat your a**."
Also according to Moore, LeBron continued "But if I had a free pass, I’d kick your a** right now." Moore replied "I’m right here baby. Let’s go" before security stepped in.

That heckler was hoping Lebron would throw a punch so he could get paid. Anyways, Lebron is super sensitive to that subject, so I'm betting Delonte hit it.

Didn't a very similar thing happen last year? And it was also around Valentine's Day, because the heckler said something like "Is your mom gonna be in Boston?" Hint: That's where Delonte played last season.
Maybe Lebron gets more emotional this time of year:lol Either way, I don't blame him for getting upset, if the story is true.

Fans have been heckling players for years about sensitive subjects. It comes with the territory of being a professional athlete. Its up to the players if they are mature enough to handle it.
I find that to be a funky statement because on one hand, you're right, horrible comments do tend to come with the territory. However, they shouldn't. I've never ever bought into the "Well they're getting paid $21 million so I think they can deal with it" line of thinking. I don't think it matters.
I think it's weird and sad that yelling horrible, horrible things about player's families has somehow become acceptable. Yes, it could be worse. Fans could be allowed to throw batteries on the floor. But all the same, I definitely don't agree that the onus has to always be on the players to be mature enough to handle absolutely, ridiculously immature comments from fans. I think it should start the other way. Fans should be expected to be mature enough to not go that route in the first place.
I just think about what it'd be like if a fan at a local high school game were to stand up and begin berating an 18 year old high school kid about his mother and her love affairs during a basketball game. How out of place and bizarre would that seem? Then, suddenly, the lines begin to blur in college sports and it seems all bets are off once the professional leagues are introduced.
To fault a player for ignoring those horrible comments for years at a time, only to one day respond with a heated verbal response seems to be shortsighted. To somehow twist it into suggesting the player is the one that needs to get a grip would be wildly off base.

Its pretty much freedom of speech vs. threats or worse if Bron followed through with them. It happens in football, basketball, baseball, pro wrestling, ufc, with celebrity's as they walk the red carpet....... And btw, I have seen it happen at high school games, especially in the playoffs. It usually results in fans from both sides fighting outside. Happens all the time here actually. I do live in a football obsessed community though.

I feel as though NBA arenas would reserve the right to remove a fan for speaking in such a manner. Just like if I were to walk into an Applebees and begin spouting about someone else's mom from across the restaurant, I'd probably be asked to leave as well. Basically, people should be expected to be able to go to a restaurant, library, or basketball game without being subjected to profanity-laced tirades about one's mother.
I find it unfortunate that this is common in your community. My region has stomped out that behavior for quite some time now. Six years ago while coaching 7th grade girls, one of my player's fathers brought the game to a screeching halt for saying something personal to one of the officials. He was promptly removed from the gym. Similarly, our student section (and parents) abide by the same code. If they were to have said anything about any player's mother, they'd be removed. One of the driving forces of implementing such sportsmanship expectations is to eliminate that potential for violence you mentioned.
And to acknowledge, I know a restaurant is different than a basketball game so I'm not trying to make a direct correlation (similar to how it wasn't the same when folks defended Ron Artest by saying, "Well if someone threw a cup on me at work I'd do the same thing.") Rather, I was just trying to find that line where freedom of speech begins and ends. There's limits depending on where a person is. They may have the right to say it, but the people who run a particular building also reserve the right to remove you for doing so.
Further, if it is ultimately deemed completely a fan's right to talk in that manner to a player, then I wouldn't see why a player wouldn't have a right to talk back.
this, you must be a big stan or a moron not to realize this
I fully acknowledge the personal heckling exists. I'm just saying it shouldn't. It should not be acceptable. I find it completely bizarre past a certain point. I understand mind games. I've scoffed at schools who don't allow fans to yell, "You suck!" But there's definitely a point at which too much is too much, and I think anyone describing in detail their thoughts on a player's mom's sexual history is crossing that line. I've just never understood the motivation behind making such comments and I've never understood how, somewhere along the lines, it became the player's problem and not the fans making the comments.
It always seems to be, "It comes with the territory, the players need to be mature enough to handle it." Why can this not be on the fans? How about, "Acting like a normal human being at a basketball game comes with the territory. Fans need to be mature enough to be able to not spew vile hatred toward basketball players you think you know on the basketball court."

Good posts Rake.
Bron probably has heard insults throughout the years. But he deserves the right to defend his family which he did. It wont be the last time a fan tries it and I doubt Bron threatens them, rather ignores. Fans can be cruel, harsh and find ways to say things to get your attention. That fan said something to get Brons. Bron responded. Whats the big deal?
If Amar'e threatens a fan when they say something about his brother who passed. Are we going to say "He has to be mature in that situation. Come on Amar'e, fans say things like that all the time.". Every human has a breaking point. Every human has a line they dont want someone to cross. Its one thing if Bron replied to every hecklers comments with threats. Its another when its isolated incidents. Why cant people be mindful of that rather than getting on the soapbox all the time? Whats right is right, whats wrong is wrong.
With Valentines day around the corner I'm sure that fan thought up of something that would catch Bron's ear.

You wouldn't be saying that if there wasn't security around or other witnesses to save your ass from that beating.
You guys who are thinking LBJ should've handled this situation better are insane. Everyone knows I like LBJ as a player-- best in the NBA today (behind Linsanity :D )-- but dislike him strongly as a person, but **** no would I blame him for getting Heated over this.
He has every right to be pissed at a heckler, after enduring for years some idiots talking shit about his mom. No matter how terrible a person's mom is (not saying LeBron's mom is bad, just an example), you can't blame offspring for wanting to defend the woman.
It's sad that "fans" think it is appropriate to bring family into shit-talking. It's even more sad when a guy destroys your team and your only response is a mom joke. Grow the **** up.

I remember the same thing happening last year, Lebron should keep his cool, by confirming his super sensitiveness over the issue he is just inviting the same shit in every road game. People would do anything to mess up his focus especially in a playoff series, instead of threatening the asshole he should sublimate his frustration through dunks and blocks.

Good for Lebron.
"The only reason you talk s*** is because you know I can’t come off the court right now and beat your a**" - Lebron
I don't see how anyone can argue with that. The fan would never say something like that to Lebron if they were alone.
Like Rake said, the fans have to be mature too, booing and having signs that make fun of the players/team in a basketball context is one thing, why go into personal matters? Why should NBA players be more mature than the fans? Just because they make more money? Doesn't make sense.
Plus how credible is this? We dont know the truth... this is not any proof, especially considering a Wizards fan asking a Wizards fan (who probably is an immature dick) on what Lebron said..... this is the same crowd that chanted "OVERRATED OVERRATED" during his Cavs day.... there was a major rivalry between Cavs/lebron and Wizards/Deidiot Stevenson....

Its all Lebrons fault!
ok..so you get Mad and beat the guy up...
he sues you and you lose half your earnings...
he heals and keeps heckling you...
you proved you can beat him up....he proves he is much smarter and wins the game.
yes it's admirable to stand up for your Family honor...but at the end of the day....Your Momz still got worked like a 12 year old in a Nike Factory by Delonte.

not a LeBron fan, but I am on his side in this situation. There comes a time when you cross the line when it comes to heckling. You don't talk about a guy's mom when you're trashtalking. Where has sports fanism gone these days?

Lebron would have never done that really lol, he aint like that.....
and once again, at this moment all this is just a rumor still and even if it happened (which is possible) we are not sure what was really going on, what that crazy fan said and what Lebron said back.... once in his lifetime...
All i know is im not that composed, i would be going nuts a la Ron Artest :D Ok if you insult me and so on, its part of the game... but insulting and heckling your family for 2 years now straight (just because the player cant do anything about it and you are in a safezone in the stands) and so on is just going to far....

I don't fault Lebron for this at all. Taking a jab at someones mother warrants an angry response.
You have to at least ONCE say something back to the cowards, just anything.... "Hey mr fan, i just want to say i dont like the way you talk about my family... cheers!"... now ofcourse even if you do that so nicely and humbly, that crazy fan will say you said something else like: "**** off biatch! *** sayz that to meh face! come at me brah! from the streets! gun in ma waist! you wanna go night night nikka?!??!"

Its funny how you think players are not humans or something and should just absorb the fans throwing bottles, insults, threats 24-7..... like if they should just play basketball and stfu.... like Machines...
im not saying this is all lebrons fault. but he owns half of the blame. he needs to rise above this kind of stuff and not respond. come on he wants to be a global icon but cant control himself. sure the heckler shouldnt have said that stuff but hes he a heckler. get over it

Go do your everyday job, go do everything you normally do everyday and have one guy right next to your ear go entire day for 2 years:
"**** your mother!"
"**** your mother!"
"**** your mother!"
"**** your mother!"
"**** your mother!"
"**** your mother!"
"**** your mother!"
"**** your mother!"
for no apparent reason at all...
and then lets see how sensitive you become on that "subject"

if lebron cant deal with hecklers he might as well get out of the game. if he cant take the heat he needs to get out of the spotlight. this is what a person turns into when he doesnt have a father around to teach him the right and wrong way to deal with stuff. all he has is a clucker for a mother. lebron is a boy in a mans body.
lebron is so insecure its a joke. people will always be able to get into his head bc hes mentally weak. seriously if he was a man he would be able to brush off dumb stuff like this. instead its you talk ab out my momma ill beat you up. what is this middle school? lebron its time to grow up.
hes not the only athlete whos had to deal with hecklers and only the nutjobs get into it with the fans. the fans pay his salary and keep him in the life. yes even the people who hate him make him more famous and an even bigger star. lebron never understood that.
and all of this

non-issue. Lebron knew he was right and has to deal with this every game. Just let it get the best of him one night which is unfortunate because he'll probably get more hecklers in upcoming games. I wouldnt be surprised if some fans want to get their ass beat so they can sue. :oldlol:

Lebron was wrong. It's part of being a high profile athlete. Suck it up and keep playing. As for the "how would you like being taunted at your job?" question? Pay me millions of dollars per year and I think I can develop a thick enough skin to look past it.
That fan would've been smart to goad Lebron into punching him. One punch, even from an incredibly strong athlete would probably be worth the settlement afterwards.

Anyone who condemns LeBron's comments has no clue what it's like be raised by a single mother.
That's the closest person to you in that situation, there's no question about it.
Anyone who loves their mother would have reacted in some way. You can call it being professional if he shuts his mouth and ignores the fan, but you gotta admit it's understandable to let your blood boil over hearing comments like that for the past 2+ years.
Imagine playing half your season in other towns only to hear comments about your mother ****ing a former teammate by random people you don't even know.
Get a grip.

People are never going to let this story go. I know it. World Peace beat the shit out of someone and now he's some chill bro who's spiritual and zany. Remember that Colts player who threw their helmet into the stands at a fan?
LeBron snapped but it's justified.
LeBron haters are ****ing pathetic pieces of shit who are too wrapped up in the drama of the NBA. I hate a large part of the NBA fan community because of shit heads who live within the drama other than what's going on in the court. Stern is marketing the league after ****heads like you.

Beyond all the single mother stuff, it's like an unwritten code that NBA players go by which is that you can say all you want about that guy personally. In Lebron's case, make fun of his hairline, his clutch FT shooting ability, his television specials, etc etc... but making fun of his family crosses the line. Granted, i'm sure he'll get this treatment in just about any arena he goes to outside of Miami but I don't blame him for putting that dumb fan in his place.

LeBron brings this all on himself. He can't take fans criticizing him he shouldn't be in the NBA and he shouldn't do stupid things like "The Decision" and make dumbass comments about how much his life is better than ours. I think it's weird and sad that yelling horrible, horrible things about player's families has somehow become acceptable.
I'd hazard a guess that fans have been yelling all manner of insulting and depraved things about the mothers of opposing teams' players since the dawn of sports.
It isn't anything new to call into question a visiting player's paternity, by suggesting his mother spends a suspicious amount of her time with: the mailman/the local team's entire roster/every sailor currently in port.
It's a time-honored tradition!

As long as the guy didn't say anything racist or about LeBron's kids or girlfriend or got physical with LeBron I don't see whats wrong. LeBron's mom is always getting involved when she's at games. Plus this is a pretty big rumor that was going around a couple years ago. Pro athletes should be able to handle some heckling.

1. I hate LeBron, keep that in mind.
2. There was no threat there on LeBron's part. He just said he would hypothetically beat the shit out of the guy but would not given the situation.
3. LeBron has every right to be pissed at this dipshit fan.
