Yeah it's a great thing when your scoring small forward limits your rising point guard's touches.

He used to play great with billups, Iverson and Andre miller, what's not to say that history won't repeat himself. He is a scorer that can play without the ball. I'm kinda excited if this team will mesh or not. If it does watch out whoever gets them in the playoffs.

This is stupid. Melo is going to be the same like he plays with billups.

Melo is a baller.
Maybe it's the team, the offense.
It bothers me that knicks fans talk shit about melo and stat.
These dudes just need a pg. that's it.
Mdantoni's offense NEEDS a guard and really allows him to flourish.

melo gets too much crap . . . he's being playing badly, but he's been in a bad place. he should not be playing point guard. he doesn't have the dribble penetration ability of a real point guard. he should be getting the ball in deeper position. plus the shooting on this team has been pitiful which really hurts him when he isolates. Amar'e and Landry came in very rusty with their shots. Toney Douglas still can't shoot.

I think as long as Melo lets Lin continue to have the ball in his hands the majority of the time then they'll be alright. Both Melo and Stat know that Lin will find them.

Melo's reputation as a player has really gone down since his nugget days...
I don't think I've ever viewed him as a black hole (excluding this past season so far), and the only reason he has been this season is he has been expected to play point forward. He just doesn't have the skillset to do this--he ain't lebron.
He's a good team player and a great scorer. Here's to hoping him, Lin, and Stat can work it out.

Agreed.
The issue is hes playing for the worst fanbase in the NBA, outside of the few Knicks fans on here, I'd say 98% of Knicks fans are idiotic homers who only think of players based on how they played in their most recent game.

I can't believe some people actually think a team of Lin/Fields/Walker/Stoudemire/Chandler would be better than a team of Lin/Fields/Melo/Stoudemire/Chandler.
I wonder which team would have a higher chance of contending, gee I wonder.
The myth that Melo is a ball hog is beyond me. I mean in Denver, yes he was at times. But here he's been looking to pass first sometimes even instead of looking for his own shot. He's averaging a career high 4.2 assists. He isn't even close to Iverson's or Kobe's level of ball hogging. He's not the type of guy to have a huge ego to try to steal Lin's fire. I'm 100% sure he'll try to fit into this new system the best he can.

Melo will adjust just fine. If he comes back and the Knicks start playing like shit again he will get so much blame. Also, if having a good pg can turn Amare into his old self then yeah, the Knicks will be contenders. They'll have a great starting lineup, especially if they can get Smith. Their coach is the last big change they need to make.

melo needs to step up though . . . he can shut up the haters, but he has to do it through his play.
i don't like it when people say he's a horrible defender and never passes. that's just wrong. he's an okay defender who can be a very good on-ball defender when he's focusing on it. he's averaging about 4 assists.

I made a thread joking about it earlier this week.
:oldlol:
I've heard so many ridiculous trade proposals to trade Melo and Amare from "Knicks fans" that I'm convinced some of these people generally have no clue about basketball.
A few months ago everyone was saying how great Melo/Amare pairing would be when we had a legit PG(CP3) who could fit D'Antoni's system and run the Pick & Roll effectively slicing the defense.
Now as soon as we get some sort of semblance of that PG in Jeremy Lin, suddenly Melo & Amare need to go? It is no wonder these are the same people flocked to Nate Robinson's poster/banner outside of MSG, bought his jerseys, and cried to the newspapers as to why he wasn't playing.

melo will always be a team player. Coz if hes not, andre miller, billups, iverson would turn into scrubs playing alongside with him. I believe there are lots of jeremy lins in this league. Theyre just not lucky to play with unselfish scorers. Most scorers are statpadders who want to do it all. Thats why I laugh at people who thinks tmac is better than him but his teammates just suck. The reason why tmacs team sucks because he was never a team player. He just cares about his stats thats why hes a loser. Just like AI and lebron too would be exposed if he played on that tough western conference.
People are just mad that melo despite being considered just a top 20 player is more successful than the likes of cp3, tmac, lebron, carter-their favorite players. I consider him to be more succesful than deron too coz deron played with boozer(an all star big man). And he wouldnt sniffed the conference finals just like cp3 if mavs werent beaten by GSW.

There is no way Melo is going to come back and be a black hole.
He knows if he does that he will be the reason why they lose. He is going to do whatever is necessary to keep this going.

yeah, jeremy lin can never stay on topic, when having a discussion. always digressing away from the point at hand, especially when melo is around
:D
naw, i think you are scared the sixers could potentially face the knicks in the first round.
wtf happened to spencer hawes?
Only team I fear are the Heat.
Spencer Hawes is injured. Achilles issue and he played through it leading him to mess up his back. So now he is out until the achilles heals. Wont return until the end of this week vs Dallas.

Okay? Kobe's right. But unlike Melo, Kobe plays defense and has proven he can play well as part of a team.
well lebron too hasnt coz he was more of an underachiever than melo. the same with tmac, carter, iverson, etc. Lebron really is just a taller iverson or the robertsons of the league.

Yeah I don't get the hate. Melo has only underachieved once, and that was the year George Karl left the team due to cancer when they lost to the 5th seed Jazz. You could say not having your coach on the sidelines really hurt the teams but whatever, lets leave it at that.
The year before people expected something from the Nuggets and they delivered and gave the Lakers the biggest scare they had that year in the WCF.
When you get 50 wins in one year, and your team is an 8th seed, what does that say about the conference you're in?
He hasn't really been a "cancer" so I don't get that statement either.
I think the thing is with Melo that he's always playing lazy during the regular season. And he usually gets some hate for it.
Then you see him in the post-season, and he get BUCKETS, and BUCKETS in important moments. You see his offensive rebounds sky-rocket, and he becomes a good on-ball defender and people are like "Daaamm, Mellooooo"
However this notion that he is going to "hurt" the team when he comes back is just stupid. Billy fucciin Walker is starting.. When Melo comes back, he will get nothing because of Fields/Novak being able to slip into the 3.
