View Full Version : NBA All-Stars wearing their respective jerseys

For five straight all-star games (1997-1998, 2000-2002), players were able to wear their own jerseys.
I liked that one better- it was brief but fun. No coincidence that those were my favorite All-Star games.
It was so easy to identify the players.
Compare Shaq's two co-MVP years:

Also, here are pictures of the West All-Star teams to show the difference:

I'm just not a fan of it. Has nothing to do with the NBA selling more jerseys or whatever, this year's ASG uniforms are probably the worst ever, I just can't get over it feeling like a pickup game when every player has a different jersey on. Even if it actually IS a glorified pickup game.
Maybe do a best of both worlds thing where the colors and everything are the same but instead of East/West it says the team name. Really there's no reason they shouldn't do it that way now that I think about it. No one reps the Eastern Conference or something.

Yes, it's MUCH better with the team Jerseys.
Also it looks awesome when there are two or more players from a team on the floor at the same time.

I'm with you 100% here. I thought the "everyone wear your own jersey" thing was cool the first year it was done. Then it seemed to lose it's luster in my regard each year after. We had a discussion about this a few weeks ago so I may be repeating myself, but the team jerseys seemed to take away a special feeling from the game itself. When someone from my team made the game (say, Grant Hill) it was anti-climatic to see him wearing the same jersey he always wears. I wanted to see something different to commemorate the occasion.
Another poster mentioned something similar to what Inspired said. He suggested that perhaps the players would maintain their team jersey designs, only each jersey's team colors would represent each respective conference (so Derrick Rose would wear a blue-based Bulls jersey, Kobe a red-involved Lakers jersey).

Sheed holding his nuts,
Good old times. I liked them playing in their own team's jerseys as well..

This would be a great solution.

Own team jerseys were stupid.
It is so much better seeing them in official all-star jerseys. Made the game look better.
Like another poster said, you seem em in ur team jersey all the time. It's nice to see them be commemorated for their achievement.
Gimme those teal 90s All-Star jerseys any day of the week over team jerseys for the ASG.

2001 is my favorite allstar game. They were underdog but played hard and won 111-110. Look how glad they were :lol

I like East/West jerseys better, you are able to see clearly the teams and not have that red/purple/blue confusing you.

if they wanna sell more jerseys for the occasion they could just use their team ones and change the color combination for each conference but keeping their logos and shit, they would become rare and wanted in a couple decades, these sleeved jerseys are just pathetic

I hated that shit. It was impossible to tell who was on whose team.No it wasn't.
One team wore their white jerseys, the other team wore their dark jerseys.
