[quote]Sport lends itself to the romantic. That much is true, and it was true long before legendary talents turned sportswriters into scribes of myths, before Robert Redford ever swung a bat, and before the imagination of a daydreaming kid allowed him to fill the gaps in the life of his favorite athlete. We sports fans find allegory or create it. We delve into meaning or fabricate it. We believe that there is something within this field of play, within these lines and these stadiums, that makes the game a deserving vessel of greater purpose.

Sometimes, those romantic inclinations are right on the money. There really are grand tales of triumph and redemption in this sport and all others. There are heroes, in a sense, and there is real emotion that floods from the movement of a bouncing ball. But other times, we

So in 3 whole years they never just shot the breeze on the plane or the bus or anything?

Thats kind of weird.

Wow. They really didn't have that much fun then, even with all those wins and championships.

Not that weird when you consider their personalities. From watching the games you could tell Rodman was very close to then in-game and very respected by them.

That makes it even more mythical.

Rodman was one of the nastier Pistons Bad Boys and I know MJ and Pip hated them.

This stuff happens far more often than you would think.
In Magic Johnson's 1st book he said Kareem didn't talk to him the first 5 years they played together.......it's not like Magic didn't try on a daily basis, Kareem is in the top 3 of biggest A-holes in sports history.

Makes you wonder if team chemistry is overrated :confusedshrug:

So many teams that hated each other have won championships in every sport.

I always look at it from the stand point of any work place environment. There's some people you can work really well with on the job, but won't really want to associate with after you "clock out", so to speak.

It's kind of like this Board. There's peeps that you can have great B-Ball Conversations with, but might not necessarily agree with based on Religion, Relationships or taste in music.

Plus, it wasn't like MJ and Pip forgot about Rodman's "Bad Boy" days with the Pistons, talking shit, pushing Pip in the back, causing him to need stitches on his chin, or giving MJ elbows to the back and side on any of his drives to the hoop.

Very strange.

But then again Jordan could care less about anything but winning.

That's crazy. What's their definition of conversation though? I'm sure they at least said whatsup to each other a few times and had some small talk. It's pretty impossible not to do that if you are on the same team...especially since it's basketball and teams are only 12 players deep.

RODMAN: ... Me and Scottie and Michael never had a conversation in three years in Chicago. Only time we had a conversation was on the court, and that was it.
They conversed on the court, just not off the court.

Can you blame Scottie and Michael though? I mean Dennis was kinda out there. :lol

Plus, it was good that Dennis took some of the media attention away from Jordan.

Seriously, do people think MJ would be seen around Rodman while wearing a Dress?

Like rodman had any intention to do some "conversating" as wild as he was.

Rodman: I iced three prostitutes and made dresses from their skin.

They probably never had meaningful conversations outside the basketball court but I've already found at least 17 YouTube vids where they're talking to each other during the game.

I think it's just that Dennis is very closed and introverted, believe it or not. Even Michael Jordan said that Rodman was shy. I'll look for the vid.

I thought this was widely known?:confusedshrug:

It should be to people who were actually following basketball.

How many times have I had occasion to say this, lately now?

Stuff like this only continues to confirm to me how few people here have actually watched basketball for any appreciable length of time. I'm puzzled as to why people are acting like something which happened a decade-and-a-half ago now is news. Only two options: they 1) weren't there when it happened, or 2) weren't old enough to be cognizant about anything. It makes me wonder then why people are talking about that time period when they don't actually have any first-hand knowledge of it. It's one thing when people don't know anything about the 60's, 70's, or even 80's, but it's completely weird to me to hear people talking about events which occurred from the 90's like they've just heard about it for the first time. It wasn't that long ago. (Although it does explain some things.)

When I played football, I had a conversation with most, if not all of my teammates.
When I played basketball, I barely had a conversation with anyone.

Basketball is a sport where you don't have to be friends off the court in order to succeed and play well together. Not to mention the fact that basketball players are usually the biggest a-holes of all athletes.

Pretty much. I was kinda the same playing basketball. We only had 9 players on the team and there was about 5 of them who all went to the same school and had their own little clique within the team. You'd talk to them while playing and after the game it was go about your own business. I saw them outside of basketball on more than a few occasions and we'd say "Hello" and that'd be it.

Hell, i'm that way with most of the people I work with now. You'll talk to them if you have to for work related matters, outside of that you don't say jack to 'em other than socially expected small talk.
