He was a journey man after his stint with the Raptors. We had some decent teams while he was the main PG in Toronto.

I'm surprised he played as long as he did. Those injuries he suffered with the Bucks and Raptors, I still cringe when I see those plays.

I wish him the best on all future endeavours.

I admittedly lost track of Ford after a while so I just took a quick look at his career statistics. He had solid years for Toronto, but his longest stint came in Indiana, where he played three years (in contrast to two seasons a piece for Milwaukee and Toronto). After year one in Indiana, his statistics very much began to dwindle.

I have to be real and admit I wasn't any kind of T.J. Ford fan or anything, but it did bum me out to watch him go down with that back injury in Milwaukee. On one hand it's a shame to watch someone's NBA career stifled due to injury at such a young age. On the other hand, he was able to live out a dream of his. Sometimes it can be most beneficial to be thankful for what one was able to experience as opposed to regretting what did not happen. The fact he was able to return from such a serious injury and put in nearly 8 years of work is admirable.

If not for the back injury this guy could've been a good starter for solid 10 years.

This. I miss watching the healthy version of him. Shame he had that terrible back injury, then as he was coming back had another one on that hit by Horford. I'll never forget the lack of reaction on the raptors bench that day though.

That sucks. Not much of a fan of his playing style but he was a class guy during his time in Indy. Hope for nothing but success and good health in his future. I expect to be hearing him on a sideline soon.

just asking?Three years, escalates with more service time obviously. Can start collecting at 50. And the NBA matches 401k's up to 140%.

He was expected to become a top level PG. I remember on draft night, they werent talking about Bron, Melo and Wade......... They were talking about Bron, Melo and Ford. That injury he had where he missed the entire season put an end to it.

Spurs fan here and I didn't have a clue TJ was 28. Sad that he has to call it a career so early. And especially when we have no proven backup PG. :oldlol:

I don't think that's a problem at all. Manu is an amazing playmaker and Neal can play the PG very well too.

I hear Will Bynum might be on the block.

Yeah they have been playing without T.J. Ford pretty much anyway. Manu minutes are very limited, but I'm sure they will make it work. This will give Gary Neal, Kawhi, and Danny Green more playing time, which they've earned.

does anybody think that his inury(ies) could have been lessened if he wore padded under gear?

under armour makes compression gear with padding sewn into it....

I've seen the hip protection but do they make tanks with rib and spine padding?

I think they should..... early in wade's career...I predicted that he'd played 5 years max...because he got airborne in weird positions so often

Doubt it. Padding is nice but would likely not have absorbed enough of the shock from the falls he took to make much difference.

I'm sure the guy has taken all possibilities into account, but when he's sustained the injuries he has, it's too dangerous to go out there. When he went down from the Baron bump it was pretty scary just seeing him laying there like that. You don't want to risk ending up stuck in a wheelchair

I liked him, I think he was a consistant mismach for defense with his quickness, I always felt sorry for him for those injuries and that he didn't have the career he could.
Have a good time, TJ Ford.

I'm not familiar with the details of Ford's high school career but I do remember him being highly acclaimed, so I appreciate the info. I can't say for sure, but I feel like he made a few appearances in Ball Above All, throwing down some impressive contest dunks.

I remember hearing about his spinal problems back when he was a Buck(first team). He's basically been dealing with a serious injury for much of his career.

I could see him being a good coach down the road.

ever since his collision with al forford (back in around 2008 i think) he has been playing against doctors orders. he was told that he should retire, but he got a few extra years in. hearing him talk about it, he seems thankful that he got to play as long as he did.
