This trade just made the Pacers even more dangerous. Gives them another scoring option at the 2 when George & Hill arent feeling it. Also allows more lineups with Hill at the 1

Can hit an open three. Change the pace as he brings energy off of the bench. He will run for an easy basket as well. Long arms. Third place is definitely yours now. Your bench is gonna slap teams in their face straight to the playoffs. Miami, which seems like the two seed now, is in for a big surprise.

Why the hell did Toronto make this trade?

Save money - they didn't take back a contract so they don't have to pay whatever is left to LB.

Why the hell did Toronto make this trade?

They aren't in playoff contention. Won't have to pay Barbosa and can use the pick on an international player to stow away for a few years.

Meh. We already have a ton of guards and Barbosa isn't all that good. At least he's expiring and didn't cost much. Not excited.

I was hoping we would trade Barbosa. We didn't need him. He needed to go to a playoff team. Good move BC.

Barbosa is sh!t for a team like Toronto. Perfect fit on Indy where they won't have to rely on him for scoring so if he's playing crap they can just bench him for the game, but if he's on he can drop 15-20 and push them thru droughts.

I'd have taken a future conditional 2nd rounder, the important thing was to get rid of him.

Nonsensical for the Pacers. Barbosa isn't going to contribute much if at all. They didn't give anything up but its still several M$$$ for not much if any lift.

Barbosa is pretty much just like George Hill. I suppose Barbosa is an upgrade over AJ Price but I'm not sure how Barbosa has been ever since he left Phoenix. It's not a bad deal for Indiana since it was just a 2nd rounder for him. I don't think this puts them up for contention though.

03-15-2012, 12:38 PM
Barbosa can still score. He can shoot, drive, has a floater, but that's about it. He is not a passer, his mindset is to score. He plays chancy defense; will go for the steals and surprise you with a block from time to time. Can still fill the 6th man role very nicely...

Nice move by the Pacers.:applause: They have several good pieces, but still no superstar or a closer.

Whoah10115

First of all, his contract is expiring.

Second, this guy is great. He's a scorer, not a bad defender, decent enough passer. He can shoot and he gets to the rim. Like George Hill, a combo style player. He needed to be traded because Toronto isn't any good and he's too valuable a piece for good teams. And Indiana is way way way under the cap anyway.

AJ Price is now the 3rd guard off the bench. Maybe worth a trade from someone else.

But still in position to acquire a big time player in the off-season. Great example of why you don't blow money just because you have it to blow.

(Not that I think that whole progression of the trade means anything but I'll take any opportunity to rip into the man who has run the Raptors into the ground.)

I'm glad Barbosa is gone though. He's not a good player anymore but sometimes he scored the Raptors back into games which was frustrating when the team should be tanking. He had no future in Toronto and was a waste of space and shot attempts.

This. While I don't particularly care much for this deal it was painful to see Barbosa there every night chucking us into the game, this move (while very little return) will help us tank even more for the lottery.

He had no future with this team and the team is looking for younger players and more picks.

I'm actually glad he's gone from the Raptors. I always thought he was a ball hog, which was the only reason WHY he was scoring so much. I never felt he made the team better.

Why the hell did Toronto make this trade?

Umm...because they don't really need Barbosa and are trying to rebuild. Jerryd Bayless is more than capable of replacing Barbosa and will likely put up 18+ ppg, 4 rpg, and 7 apg now that he'll get more minutes with Barbosa gone. Every time Bayless has gotten significant minutes he's done extremely well so expect big things from him in the coming months. In fact, over the last 10 games or so last season, Bayless averaged something like 23, 3, and 6 while playing 30-35 mpg.

Those are some very bold predictions for Bayless...He does occasionally have the odd good game here and there, but there's no way he gets seven APG with the way he plays, shoots too often, and does not look to pass. He does not play like a PG, but at least he can offer good defense at the PG position.

Allegedly they are making Collison the backup and starting Hill. Barbosa then become backup SG to George.

I think it shows they are serious about making a deep playoff run this season, as they obviously dont believe in Lance Stephenson for even 10 mpg.
If you wanted to develop Stephenson, it could hurt that a little.

Allegedly they are making Collison the backup and starting Hill. Barbosa then become backup SG to George. No they aren't. That all stems from Indy's beat writer, he's got some weird agenda that they NEED to start Hill at the point (even though he's not a PG and the numbers back it up) since they traded for him. Vogel's said, in not so many words, that Collison's the starter.

How are my comments very bold predictions when he's already proven he's more than capable over and over? Virtually every time he gets starter minutes, he plays extremely well. This hasn't happened once, or twice, or three times, but at least 20-25 times during his four year NBA career.

He's currently averaging about 11 ppg, 2 rpg, and 4apg, but if given the minutes (30+ a game), and taken off the coaches short leash (which he's always been on), expect for him to put up Kyrie Irving type numbers or very close to it for the rest of the season.

Actually I have heard Vogel talk about Hill being a potential starter at least twice.
He isnt a true PG, but he is a good player. I'd rather start at good combo guard at the one, than a truer PG who has played as poorly as Collison in March.

Don't kid yourself; dude's a beast when he gets starter minutes. Tonight Bayless had 28 pts (9-17), 6 rebs, 9 assists, 3 steals, 1 blk, the team shot 48% from the field, and the Raptors won.

As I said before, assuming he continues to play 30+ mpg, don't be surprised if this guy puts up Kyrie Irving numbers (or even Russell Westbrook type numbers) for the rest of the season.
