why not just create a new Sci Fi story altogether? :facepalm i mean Total Recall was pretty decent for its time but its just stupid how they keep doing all of these remakes of stuff that seem unnecessary.
but i guess they don't have to do as much marketing for it since people already recognize the movie and know the story.... just seems like all Hollywood has been doing in the 2000's is remakes. f'in create something new

Bryan Cranston is the only actor in this that makes me excited.

Why? There are literally infinite numbers of ideas out there to make your own SciFi stuff. Movies like the Fifth Element and Avatar prove it.
I will not watch this.

Seems like the remakes from the old movies are never as much fun. Total Recall from '80s was great story but was also FUNNY....great one liners.......the new movies always seem personality-less. Takes itself too seriously.

Ridiculous. Think up a f**king idea, would you Hollywood?
I'm not hysterically against remakes like some people, but their needs to be a purpose. What about this story was so great that required a remake?
Hollywood strikes again with another original idea. :facepalm
The story was really tight in my opinion. There's no reason (besides selling tix obviously) for the remake though. The original is great.
i mean there really wasn't this untouched depth, or other things that needed to be explored IMO.

what about the chick with the 3 tits?
Im torn now...after seeing some clips. Looks action packed. Good actors in it to boot. Doesnt change my feeling on Hollywood constantly remaking movies.
But to me Total Recall with Arnold wasnt great. Its one of those movies you lump in with Top Gun. Karate Kid and such.
I've seen the trailer a few times now, and every time I see it, I get less excited for the movie.

looks like garbage each time I see the trailer...perhaps it will prove me wrong..does have a good cast and looks like plenty of action.
As I expected, the early reviews say it is crap: http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/total_recall_2010/
I was hoping I was wrong and this would be good, but everything from actors, to the screenwriters, to the director are downgrades from the original, so these reviews are not surprising.

There was, but in the Philip K. Dick story it is based on. Nothing he ever wrote is shallow in the slightest. They took his story and turned it into a Schwarzenegger action film. What did you expect?

I always loved the original, and hate that all these remakes are being made. Especially for a movie like this that isn't very old, and I doubt they're going to top. When a movie is already made, I don't see the point in doing it again. Make a sequel if anything. That's just me, though. In fairness, it could be a good movie itself. I just don't see the point. Not everything should be remade, especially pretty recent movies. There's a place for remakes, but Hollywood got carried away years ago.

The Philip K. Dick story is 20 pages long. I'm amazed somebody could make even one movie from it, let alone 2.

Hollywood is getting weaker and weaker. Remake after remake.
21 Jump Street? Miami Vice? Total Recall? New Spiderman? New Superman?
Upon many more. When will they remake Forrest Gump? Maybe a Cosby Show movie? How about a Full House movie?
Pathetic attempt at money grabbing. What happened to original movies - this spells the complete demise of Farrell's career as well.

Most Hollywood remakes arent even half as good. as the original.

I won't watch either. Spiderman looks just the same as the Maguire/ Raimi ones. 21 Jumpstreet was an average show, and I can't watch anything that fat ass actor is in. The guy is so crass, and I love edgy comedians, I just find Jonah hill annoying as hell. He's a huge try hard.

Jumpstreet highest rated comedy of the year so that's your loss.
Anyway, not surprising, but a bummer Total Recall is getting the beatdown on RT. I was really hoping it'd be good.

SMH at ratings. If I paid any attention to film ratings, I would be watching hot garbage like Finding Nemo and the Hangover.
Last really funny comedy I saw was Bridesmaids.

Not surprised at all. The trailer just looked so meh. They spent $200 million on this while it already existed...I mean come up with something fresh using that cast and that budget.

If you've read the short story "We can Remember it for you Wholesale" from Phillip K. Dick then you know the original Total Recall has very little to do with its original source material. Seems a pointless movie to remake as someone else said the short story it was "loosely" based on was only about 20 pages and it doesn't appear they are making it any closer to the source material. They are just updating an action movie that really doesn't need updating nor does anyone give a shit about having updated.

I wish they took the general idea, and then made drastic changes to the movies. As somebody else mentioned, sequels are better because they may at least attempt something new with the old idea. This just looked like the exact story scene by scene with minor twists rather than major ones.

Well they don't go to Mars in the new one, because nobody is capable of believing in space travel anymore.

That is not a big enough story change. That is more of a setting change.

He is good in non-American films where he can use his actual accent.
Spiderman was a new movie? Thought it was apart of the same series just a different actor playing Spiderman. :confusedshrug:
I do agree totally with Hollywood milking remakes and turning tv shows into movies. Surprised Top Gun, Raising Arizona wasnt remade.

How are you holding up after the transplant?

Doing well, thanks. For some reason, I have been getting nearly constant minor calf cramps, and that has been my focus the last couple of days. At first I thought it was overcompensation, but even after being careful to not overuse my calves, they still cramp. Magnesium levels have been fine too, which is what the doctors expected to see as low considering the cramps after transplant. Ultimately, the cramps are a minor issue though.
As for Spider-man and comic movies, that is one genre I don't mind having movie after movie. I view them like the comics where they crank out new versions and new stories all the time. I just think there needs to be an emphasis on the "new story" part, which the Spider-man movie only does in the second half of the film.

Sucks that this is getting bad reviews.

The critics are saying what we thought this movie would be: overdone, not fun, pointless, and humorless....that's how the previews make it look. They always take what made the movies fun from the 80s and 90s, and take it away for overblown action and seriousness. I never understand that.
I wonder if Benny is in this one. :coleman: He has FIVE kids to feed.

exactly right, thats why its pointless to keep remaking these films. what they need to do is make more films in the tone of those 80's/90's films. not copy the story lines pointlessly.

because movie companies know that there is still an audience(80-90's action movie fans) out there who is going to watch it.
I wonder when would they start remaking Seagal or Van Damme movies:lol
