I thought it was the coolest, most unimaginable thing ever when the Pistons changed their logo and jerseys back then. Everything seemed so wild, new and fresh, especially coming after some horrible, dark years with the old uniforms. That said, I grew tired of those teal jerseys in about two years. I'll say this though, the second picture you have looks much better than the first. The slightly darker, sharper, and more vibrant look seems much more appealing than the first example.
Here are three of my 90's favorites:

Thank you, OP, for making me relive the nightmare that was the teal era for the Pistons. When we had crap players like Eric Montross and Bison Dele.
And the 90s was a disaster for graphic design. It was one part 80s, one part 70s.

You know things are rough when you're taking on post-Jordan, horrible Chicago Bulls castoffs.

Oh yeah, everyone had Orlando Shaq and Detroit Grant Hill with the new logo. I also had a Jason Kidd Dallas one. Not sure what happened to all of them but its not like they would fit now anyway.

That uniform was designed in the 1970s. Also, there are Rockets and Hawks jerseys in this thread that were designed prior to the 90s as well.

Denver had these until the mid-90's, so I guess they count:

Brian Williams aka Bison Dele actually put up good numbers in his first season with the Detroit Pistons.

16.2 ppg, 9 rpg (51.1 FG%). He was one of the candidates for the Most Improved Player of the Year.

I liked the energy and strength he brought off the bench for the Bulls.

Yep, the Pistons actually had some good years in the teal. They won 54 in '97 but even then, I never really expected them to make it out of the first round (they were beat in 5 by the Hawks). After the Bad Boys, I always undersold the Pistons. I never saw their talent to be in the same realm as the '89 and '90 teams (even in '02 when things began to pick up).
The futility we refer to comes from the end of their teal years, post-Grant Hill.

I probably go against popular opinion here, but I really like the jerseys with the big logos on the front.

Thank God they acquired Richard Hamilton and signed Chauncey Billups in the 2001-2002 NBA Season.
The 2002-2008 Pistons were one of the best defensive teams of all time.

I liked all those jerseys at first too. But at some point, it all became too much and when teams began slowly switching back to something cleaner and simpler, it was a giant breath of fresh air. Sure, front office Joe Dumas made some clutch signings and trades during Detroit's 2000's run, but I'm not sure he ever made a move as important and necessary as returning the Pistons to their original red, white, and blue the moment he took over.

I miss them! So fresh.
I hated the graphic design era. I hated the Suns/Pistons/Bucks alternate/Raptors/Grizz/Jazz etc. They were horrible.
I like that teams are getting back to the basics and making them more simple again.
I did really like the Magic road blue pinstripe jersey, the Bulls black alternate, and the Sixers from the rookie AI year.
