I was playing at the park with my kid last night. Park only had 4 other people in the playground area. We end up playing a little soccer game. There was this Iranian family of a dad and two boys about 8 and 10, and a little black girl about 10-12 on the swings watching. We finish up and my kid and I decide to go home. Just when I got to the car I noticed my phone was missing. I know I had it on me at the park because I was checking messages. I was only parked about 40 yards from the park. Not even 5 minutes had passed and we ran back to the park. Everybody was gone. So was my phone. I think while I left I must have dropped it. There was a man who was parked beside me asked if I needed help. I asked him to call my phone. Rang twice and straight to voicemail, which means somebody had it and shut it off mid ring.
I got home and filed a police report. Whoever stole my phone is pretty effed. My phone has a GPS. I'll just have the police knock ontheir door. Really it's not worth stealing cell phones. You can't do anything with them with the SIM cards, can't resell them. They can be traced. I hope I find the fukker. I'm getting on the horn now with my provider

I'm pretty sure the point of stealing a phone is to get something you want, without spending money on it.

Side note, why are you hanging out with so many people under the age of 18?

Yeah, but you can't do anything with it. So there's no point. The most you can get out of it is parts if you have the same mobile

Yeah you can, just change the sim cards, not hard to do when the sim cards are external and interchangeable. Ones with internal sim cards are tougher to bypass but still doable.

But you have to verify the serial number as the owner of the phone, so it can't be done.

You need to file a police report and give it to your provider for them to GPS it. It's the provider's policy.
How hard is it to call the police to knock on somebody's door once you get the location?

I have found two phones while in college. I took the sim cards out and sold both on eBay. Made about $120 off each phone.

If you lose a phone you don't deserve to get it back. Take note I'm talking about FINDING phones not stealing them. I also found a 32gb classic ipod, sold it for over $200.

One of my friends found an iphone the other day, just laying in the grass. He returned it to the person. I would have sold it.

i agree with you that if you lose it and someone finds it then it's tough luck.... but i cant do that. i was walking to class one day and the guy in front of me had two twenties drop out of his bag and had no idea. i picked them up, thought about keeping it, and then ran up to him and gave it back.

You can do more than that. Not that I condone stealing anything, but you can still flash the identifiers for both CDMA and GSM carriers.

No you don't. You make it seem like ts impossible to use a stolen phone. Far ffrom the truth. You can easily factory reset the phone, and depending if it's unlocked or the same carrier, you can just use your current sim card and you got yourself a new phone. Pretty simple and its not useless at all for someone to steal a phone. Honestly, these smart phones do so much these that even if your theory was right, which its not, you can still use it as a portable media device insted of a full functioned phone.

So yea, there are still reasons for people to steal phones.

Right because finding out whose phone it is you found and returning it isnt a option in your world. ipod is a different story.

You're no different then a thief. You're a scumbag.

I dropped my phone one day after I got it at a gas station. Got home, couldnt find phone and called it. Some guy answered and said he found it. I asked him how for how much? He said $20. Met him and ended up paying for his parking ticket.

But a douchebag like yourself would never take the option to do this.

Once I dropped my phone walking to the car after a night out at the bar. The guy who found it was nice enough to hit up my friends and tell them he had my phone and for me to call him so we can meet up and get it. I called him and he didn't answer. Waited a bit to see if he'd get back, called a few more times and the dude just straight up never called back to give me my phone :oldlol:

What an asshole. Making you pay 20 bucks for your own phone? I don't see why people can't just return things anymore.

I found a chick's wallet and drove 10 miles to her house to give it back to her... She wasn't there, she was freaking out and looking all over so I gave it to the business nearest where I found it, and they called her while I was there.

Yeah I wasnt about to argue with the guy about it though. Just hoped he was at the spot he told me to meet him so I could get my phone back. :oldlol:

Thats a good deed you did. :applause:

I found a womans purse at a mall. Had a check for 500 dollars and a bunch of 20 dollar bills. Normally I would have stolen the cash but even I have limits. So I found her phone #, called her and met up with her. She offered money but I didn't take it.

People that try to sell you back the phones they "found" really are complete scum bags. I remember my uncle lost his phone at a park a few years ago when he was taking his daughter out. Realized he lost it when he got home and had his wife call it. Dude that picked up said he'd give it back to him for $200.

Seriously, and it was like a $80-$100 phone. :oldlol:

My uncle laughed in his face and hung up. Canceled the phone. Bought a new one. End of story.

Wow serious? Unless it's something fairly untraceable like cash (hey with cash, finders keepers) I'd always return stuff I find. Just last week in a Jewel-Osso, I found a pair of earphones literally a day after my old ones broke. Was so tempted just to keep it (nice Samsung pair as well) but in the end I handed in to security. Also did the same with an old phone I found at college.

Although one of my friends managed to find 2 itouches and an ipod, kept all of them that bastard.

I would never keep a lost phone because I know how important phones are now to people, sometimes all there contacts are there plus important info, I would call the person and return the phone.

And at people not being able to sell the phone, I dont know how it works in your country but all thats needed is to wipe or jailbreak the phone and you can reuse it again

ok smarty pants obviously you will see the text messages of people in his inbox, what I meant is call people the person knows or maybe the home address/landline he has listed on his phone.

You're a piece of shit if you don't at least try your best to get it back to the person who owns it. It's pretty easy to find out who owns a cell phone. If they have it locked, wait until someone calls and tell them you have their friend's phone.

I was in London and left my laptop, ipad, iphone, and passports in a cab i hailed off the street. Thought I was ****ed since I had a flight to Greece in 2 days. Luckily the cabbie turned everything in, maybe because I had given him a good tip (karma!!). That shit would have never been returned in NYC

I remember the first cell phone I lost and only one, was my senior year in HS I believe or junior year. It was gym time and we were in the locker room. I don't have a lock, most guys don't either. Some people don't got time for it. I put all my clothes in there and changed into my gym clothes, I had left my Sidekick LX and clothes in a locker without a lock. I came back, my bookbag, my clothes, (I had my sweater on) jeans, and my cell phone was all gone. Be aware this happened during December and it was COLD snowing out. The guy had the nerve to do that shit to me. I obviously was given a pair of sweat pants by the school to go home with.

I had texted the phone and they said they would give me my bookbag back with whatever they took including my jeans, if I gave them the passcode to the phone (which I had on). I didn't give them, this was the day before or a week before christmas break. I had messed with them and told them that it wasn't a smart choice stealing from me because I was going through a tough time with my mother dieing and having to take care of my sister (obviously I was trying to make him feel like an idiot) he then said how he felt, etc how he doesn't steal that someone stole it and gave it to him to keep, and how he just wanted the code and I will find my bookbag in a locker the next day with everything. I told the dude merry christmas, and stopped texting.

I had naked pics of girls and shit and a picture of my dick on there (LOL the girl at the time I was with wanted a pic) he looked at it and even asked about it. What a loser. He started texting her, etc and told her about other naked pics of girls in my phone. Lol. Dick heads these days. I learned my lesson from that day on. Funny, it took my the next day to get another Sidekick LX (which at that time was the SHIT and everyone had a Sidekick).

Got my 3gs stolen last summer while playing basketball at the park. This thing is I know who did it and I saw the kid sitting by my stuff. That kid has never shown up at that park ever since. He must have decided he wasn't ever coming up there again so it didn't matter that I knew he stole it.

The a**hole deleted all my emails. It was really such a shitty thing he did. Now I have one of those pattern locks on my phone so if someone steals it they will at least have to restore it to get my info.

Well good news. I have a GPS app on my phone. Called my provider and they were ably to pinpoint the location of my phone and e-mail it to me. Instead of calling the cops I decided to take the liberty of paying them a visit.
I got there and thank goodness it was a house, otherwise I would have been there all day since GPS locator doesn't give you an address. Luckily the dad was home. He recognized me and wondering how I found their house. I said he has something of mine. Told him how I was able to track my phone. He called his kid over and kid was shit scared. His dad asked if he had my phone and kid lied at first. Then he gave in. Kid got in shyt, although I'd suspect the dad was in on it. Got my phone back. Thank gooodness for modern technology.

If you have this app as an option do get it.

it's pretty much self-worth vs. the value of whatever it is that's stolen or found. I always return shit or at least drop it off at the lost and found. For me whatever the item is really isn't worth being a scumbag. $200 bucks is nice, but being a decent person is worth more than that. The thing is that I've noticed the cutthroat scumbag types are always the ones complaining about getting screwed over or being stolen from. So I wonder if they're like that because they've been victims of that type of behavior, or if it's something else.

Of course you can sell or use a stolen phone. Its done daily. There are two places inside 5 minutes from where I am right now that will buy any phone. They either wipe them and sell to someone else or break them down for parts since they also repair broken phones. A stolen newish Iphone would get you a hundred dollars or so no questions asked. People sell shitty old flip phones to the places for 5 dollars.

Anything that costs money can be sold illegally. Anything.
