View Full Version : 14 Year Old 7 Foot Georgios Papagiannis: "2016 NBA Draft #1 Pick"

*Updated from when I first originally posted this, when Papagiannis was 14 years old.

Papagiannis is now a 18 year old high school senior. He is currently 7'2" tall, weighs 275 pounds, and has a 7'6" wingspan.

Here is a clip of him playing against the then defending Euroleague champions, Panathinaikos, at age 14. He is #19 in yellow, playing at the center position.

The guy he is guarding is #14 in green, Ian Vougioukas. Vougioukas, for comparison, is 6-11 280 - just to give you an idea on how big this kid was then when he was only at the time just 14 years old.

Didn't seem overly impressive, reminded me of Paul Davis/Nick Fazekas, but then again, he is only 14. Regardless, I see his ceiling being a slightly worse Chris Kaman.

But then again, since Sofo is 10x the player Kaman can dream of being, maybe that isn't much of a ceiling :oldlol:

I think his upside quite frankly is a top five, one-and-done, 2016 pick,” Westtown (Pa.) coach Seth Berger told SNY.tv of the 7-foot-1 native of Amarousio, Greece.

Papagiannis’ father played professionally in Greece, so he has good genes. He’s currently averaging about 15 points and 9 rebounds for Westtown, which plays this weekend in the Under Armour Holiday Classic in San Diego.

“He’s a really unique player,” Berger said. “He’s 7-1, 250 pounds. Incredibly coordinated. Jumps well, shoots well, dribbles well, passes well, has really good post work and he just turned 16 in July.”

Berger added: “Usually kids this size, this young, can’t run up and down the court. Forget he catches alley-oops and can reverse them. He’s got a super-high basketball IQ, incredibly motivated. And he’s really smart.

Hopefully next spring he'll play for an EYBL aau team so we can gauge his ability against the best high schoolers in the country.

From the limited glimpse from those 2 videos in this thread I think if this guy keeps mobility and adds some skills in the next 2 years he could be better than Jahlil Okafor(#1 high school center in the country right now)

Damn! what impresses me is his coordination and thickness for a kid his height and age. And he has good shooting form on top of that.

Barring injury this kid has the potential to be great NBA player.

Papagiannis was recently officially measured at 7-1 at a national invitational camp.

7-1 275 with a 7-6 wingspan and still only 16 years old....

Greek basketball is in a rough state, 14 year olds are their top headliners :biggums:

No wonder Spanoulis, NBA benchwarmer, is a stud there.

As far as this kid, I'd be willing to take a flier on him. He'll go late first round, if not some team will snag him in the second.

Weak competition, slow white guys.

Someone forgot to tell this clown troll that the whole "weak competition, slow white guys" troll that Americans always do towards European players can't work when a guy is playing in America.

It's also funny as hell, since he was playing against American players.

Freaking moron.

Just another proof of how racist most of these NBA only fans really are. They just automatically say that for EVERY European player. Even one that was actually playing in USA.

:facepalm

Another seven foot center who I have yet to mention is Georgios Papagiannis who could go down as the best Greek basketball player ever to play in the NBA when it is all said and done with. Papagiannis, born in Maroussi, Athens, Greece is a 7

Fast risers and newcomers to keep an eye on

Just behind Davis as a high ranking newcomer is another impressive big man. Greek-born Georgios Papagiannis came over to the States to attend the Westtown (Pa.) School and has made a large impact. At nearly 7-foot-2 with a big frame, he isn't a speed demon but plays with an edge and takes up lots of space. He enters the rankings at No. 44 but could make another big move as we learn more about him. It is important to note, though, that rumors keep swirling that he could return to Greece after his junior season to play pro ball.

Another name quickly gaining momentum is Greek sensation Georgios Papagiannis, who will reportedly be working out in front of more than 20 NBA teams soon. The 7'2" Papagiannis is wowing scouts with his athleticism and feel for the game at such a young age.

"This kid has great pedigree," one league source, who loved Kristaps Porzingis' game last year, told me. "He plays at top level in Greece, as well as national team experience. If he went to St. Johns or Kentucky, he would be a lottery pick."
