This is sad. Lamar basically quit on his team WHO NEEDED HIM and got paid.

NBA needs to take care that things like this never happen again. It's about the same when Payton and Jim Jackson got traded and didn't show up.

He basically set himself up that no one else will go after him apart from the Lakers. Wish the Lakers offer him a vet minimum and get busted for drugs again.

With Lamar's apparently fragile state of mind, had he stayed put in LA this season as Pau did, there's no guarantee he wouldn't have tanked here in LA just like he did in Dallas.

As it is, he did this to himself and has no one else to blame for ending up in this situation. And there is no telling if he would not have still have been traded by the Lakers for someone else.

The way the whole CP3 thing played out was unfortunate for Lamar and the Lakers, but in hindsight and once the damage was done, having to ditch Lamar (at his request) may have been a good move afterall.

Even if the Lakers do sign Lamar next year, there's no guarantee he'll have his head together. It'll be interesting to see how it all plays out.

I don't know if the Lakers management would want to bring him back. They might have known something the Mavs didn't as far as his personal situation.

He probably made a bad decision to play at all this year, but comon, the stuff thats happened in his life this offseason would have shaken anyone. Not saying he should still get paid, but don't think its fair to question his ability to "man up"

no they wouldn't have. ANYONE else would have gone to work because they HAD to... :facepalm

i don't know why people keep saying this, especially when he really didn't go thru that much in the offseason, he wasn't even driving in that car, just sitting backseat...he's got the emotional sensitivities of a 6 yr old girl.

he might even ruin it for the Players Union with the stunt he just pulled, since Owners aren't going to be okay with a player being traded to them and deciding he isn't going to give much effort because he's not happy, and the team can't do anything but pay him. that is so bush league its crazy people defend him. then again the only ones who really are, are laker fans  ...karma will come back around to bite you.

i disagree with you saying he didn't go through much, he lost a kid last year, he lost other family members, his wife left him and blamed him the kid died, etc.

HOWEVER your first statement is 100% true. It's been a long time. Yes, any company would understand you needed to take off as long as you understood you no longer were going to get paid.

i didn't know he lost a kid, you mean one of his kids? i was thinking you all were talking about the car accident. are you sure this all happened this off season? i thought he was with Khloe all last year, didn't even know he was married. if all thats true then i guess you're right, but i haven't read that stuff, only really that he was a passenger in a car that killed a kid, and his father being sick which was exaggerated.

well the Mav's let him go home for like a week where he said he father was ill...but i'm just doubting the stuff you just said since i didn't see any mention of that on his reality show or news articles. that could be stuff from a long time ago...which i know he's had some tragedies in his life especially when he was younger.

theres been multiples of athletes whose family members or relatives died this year and they took some time off or missed games for the funeral, and then played again shortly after. i mean i'm sympathetic to that but only so far...

i'm NOT sympathetic to being a passenger in a car that killed someone, maybe slightly, but to me its just piling on crap to make excuses for him.

people even still use his father being sick when all he had was a stomach virus....

But how many of them were in a car that killed someone on the way to that family members funeral. I know I'd feel like complete shit being in a car that killed someone let alone being after a close relative died as well. Like I said it isn't an excuse for him to have not given effort but I think it explains his emotional state.

^ That's it right there. Odom lost two family members within a month. His wife was losing faith, and on top of that when he performed poorly the Mavs made a big deal about it. I think it started off bad then just went to terrible. Odom can still put up nice numbers, I don't think this season will hurt him in finding a team. GSW have already expressed interest, and I'm sure contenders would love to have him/

bad shit happens and you have to deal with it.

the dude literally lived across from the AAC yet he was consistently late to meetings, practices, and games. He would blatantly dog it on the court giving embarrassing, half assed efforts the majority of the time. He had flashes now and then but it was clear he was never going to get it together. Hell, once he even fell down when running into a ref and instead of getting up and hustling down the court he sat there on his ass staring as the Mavs played five on four. The ref was on his feet and down the court before Lamar even stoop up.

He was also on the radio constantly whining and crying about every little thing. He bitched that fans started to boo him for his horrid effort while ignoring that, aside from Dirk, he was getting by far the loudest cheers and ovations from the fans all throughout the year. He constantly brought up the Lakers deep into the year. He sat emotionless on the bench during just about every game.

the guy just does not seem to care at all and the way he conducted himself is straight pathetic.

Its a shame. It might cost us a playoff berth...if we had a serviceable player in his place we'd have the same chance to make another run like we did last year.

Now? Not a chance and it really might cost us the playoffs. The Jazz and Suns won't stop winning....

Jazz just lost to the Hornets....so that is great, but the Suns look like they are going to win in Houston. Have to really admire what the Suns are doing right now....its amazing.

regardless of serviceable status, he was an unnecessary distraction plaguing the team constantly by media and fans.
What cost you is trading Chandler, and Barea, and expecting beaubue to step up, he doesnt fit with the team.

Uhhhhhh...no. This team would be infinitely better if we signed a player instead of Odom. With that player....Kaman for example. This team is likely fighting for the 3 seed.

Roddy has been inconsistent, but he's been roughly as good as Barea was last year in the regular season.

We miss Chandler, but really not that much...at least in the regular season. If we had replaced him with a decent player...we'd be fine. Haywood, Wright, and Mahinmi have done fine. And our defense when this team is healthy has been great all year. Of course if you lose Chandler and essentially replace him with Odom's corpse you get worse. But if Odom had actually played well or we signed somebody else...we'd be roughly the same team. Like I said, Barea is just over-rated if you think he was far superior last year compared to Roddy this year. They are pretty much the same...inconsistent scoring guards that don't pass well.

I don't think people understand what happened this year. No training camp, new players, injuries.....and then to top it all off. The player we signed to be our 2nd best player was in reality by far the worst player on our team and a huge negative off the court as well. We are now 8 games over .500. I've watched every game...I just can't get behind this idea that this group has underachieved at all given the circumstances of this season.

I can't believe there are people even defending this POS. I've lost all respect for Odom and I hope he never plays in the NBA again. The Mavs could've been up there with OKC and SA had Odom actually gave a sh*t. What he did was disgusting and a slap in the face to Mavs fans, his teammates, coaches, and an overall class organization who has one of the best owners in professional sports. By all accounts, the team made countless excuses for him and coddled him like a baby and he turns around and spits in their face. He's nothing but a punk and weak minded p*ssy. Mavs fans have every right to boo him. I didn't even know that part about him being on the radio saying those things. That just makes him look even more pathetic.

I've had numerous close relatives and friends who have passed away and you think I could go to work and half ass it or decide I need a whole year to cope? Hell no, my @$$ would've been fired on the spot. As would anyone else. The punk is getting paid about 9 mill to sit on his @$$ and not do sh*t. Many of us would kill to be in that position. The next time a relative of mine dies, I'm gonna ask my boss if I can take off a whole year and still get paid while I sit on my couch all day not doing anything.

Be careful what you wish for, Mitch. Double agent Lamar's work could mean the Mavs in the first round...

Lakers Stans gonna be mad as if the Mavs beat them again in the playoffs.
