For me it has to be Shaq, if he had cared more and wanted to be the best. There is no question in my mind he would have retired as the GOAT and would of had a Kareem like exit from the Lakers.

Sometimes when I'm bored I think about what Shaq would have been like if he had Kobe's work ethic and Jordan's psychotic desire to win.

Same, I am not a Laker fan......but I would have loved to see where Shaq would be if had Kobe and Mike's work ethic.

As a Sixer fan, I always wonder where AI would have ranked if he was more dedicated to practice and more willing to accept the team concept.

The what ifs of sports..........:oldlol:

I think Iverson DID practice and DID have a work ethic. What was really going on was that he felt insulted and disrespected when people brung up "practice" instead of a 40 pt performance. Kind of like when Dwight gets pissed bout when they ask him "Where you going next?".

If anything was wrong with Iverson it was just his ego.

KOBE: If he atleast spent 2 yrs in NCAA learning to be a good passer & had "better shot selection"

LEBRON: If he got drafted by Lakers or Celtics & not "bottom feeder" like Cavs.

PENNY:If his knees didnt get destroyed.

GRANT HILL:If he did not destroy his ankle.

LEN BIAS:If he did not die & did not get injured.

SHAQ:If he wasnt lazy & actually had good work ethics.

Shaq seems like the best choice. Dude should have 7 rings.

gengiskhan
04-20-2012, 11:17 PM
Shaq's accolades should've been:

5 Rings
3 MVPs
4 FMVPs
2 DPOYs
rookie of the year.

instead he has 1/2 of the accolades he deserved for:

-being lazy
-having bad work ethics
-having A-hole of a team mate called Kobe who bit the hand that fed him & costed him atleast 2 rings.

Shaq should have been a 4x NBA MVP, 1995, 2000, 2001 and 2005.

Not the GOAT but one of the greatest wastes is Rasheed Wallace. This guy was the only real star on Portland when they challenged the prime Shaq/Kobe combo.

He never was aggressive enough in the post. He had the most unstoppable turn around jumper ever and didn't use it enough.

Kobe. His shot selection disqualified him.

As for wastes, I guess S. Kemp should be mentioned...

Kobe. His shot selection disqualified him.

Shot selection is just 1 aspect

Here are other numerous aspects that disqualified him:

-lack of NCAA accolades & history
-Rookie of the year title missing
-1 MVP in 16 yrs of trying
-Playoffs inconsistency
-Poor FG%
-Poor teammates chemistry
-Poor Bball IQ.

Kobe is the GOAT already da fucc wrong wit you nugga?

But anyways players who could have been the GOAT if kobe was never born

Shaq- wow, shaq is truly a once in a generation player, from size to talent to the whole nine, this is a just a player we will only see once in our lifetime. But yea he was lazy and was an asshole

Jordan- ruined his chance at being the GOAT when pippen led the bulls damn near to the finals without him, then helped portland get to the WCF while the wizards were missing the playoffs:lol

Bill Russell- If the NBA ended in 1970, he would be the GOAT for sure

I'm sorry, but Penny had no chance. He had been in the league years before his knees went bad and there was no sign of him going to be better than Jordan. He was a great player, but he was never even going to be top 10.

I don't know as much about Len, he died while I was young, so I never saw him play.

Duncan if he played in a big market.
DROB if he had a mean streak.
Magic if he didnt retire early.

Shaq had the perfect NBA body when he was a rookie, and he just got fatter and fatter as the years went on. Also freethrows. He had a great career, but it definitely could have been greater.

Bill Walton is another one of those great, "what ifs?". Amazing player. In the brief, sporadic stretches of his career wherein he was able to enjoy relative good health, he was a two-time Champion, an MVP, a Finals MVP, and a Sixth Man of the Year. Not to mention a collegiate legend. One of my favorites.

If Shaq could've made at least 70% of his free throws, assuming he plays the same number of games, he'd have had more than 30k points and averaged 25.3 PPG.

Shaq is the only real answer, one of only two players in the last 20 years that had the pure natural ability to take the GOAT spot from Michael Jordan, LeBron being the other one.

Shaq SHOULD have been the greatest player in NBA history not just the greatest player of the post Jordan era of the NBA.
