How did he make sure he got it if Kobe only needed 38 points to win it? That's stupid. If he wanted to put it out of reach he would have gone for 45 both games. He ended with 32 in 3 quarters two games ago and then barely shot at all in the 4th last night.

Eyenga and Hill not enough bait? Should be fun to watch....not missing this for sure. More when Hill will probably be our back up PF/C coming off the bench in the playoffs....

Only good things can come out of this. With Kobe out they'll be forced to try harder to win it by themselves....should be good minutes of ebanks, hill and eyenga

It's a good decision. Pau and Bynum needs rest. With Kobe and scrubs playing, Kings will eventually double up Kobe everytime he touches the ball and scoring 38 will be tough.

Good thing is Durant deserved it. He took nearly 4 less shots and despite playing with a shot jacker in Westbrook, winning the scoring title is no small achievement!

he did allow him. frankly, if durant needed 38 to win it and decided not to play then durant would have allowed kobe to win it. doesnt matter if its kobe or not.

they cant change what they scored 3 months ago, but if its one game and its not like 50 pts or something... i think any of the top players can do it if they want to.

I disagree with the word allow in the context of not competing when you are losing. I can buy it when you are already ahead. Even though 38 points is completely do-able for today's players, it's still an above average game.

There is also a possibility that he wouldn't reach it.

"Kobe concedes scoring title, eyes bigger things" would be a better way to phrase it. English is a funny language. There is so much subtext, hence why people are always reading into the shit LeBron says.

Kobe fans claiming that Durant "stat padded" the past two games clearly didn't watch the game against the Kings.

Not only did he sit out the 4th, he didn't force anything. I think if he were pushing, he could have easily had over 50 in that game and possibly more. It was an effortless 32 points within the flow of the game.

This is so amazing and sad. The people who really wanted for Kobe to get it are so bitter, and saying that Durant looks foolish, Kobe's the better man, etc. When just earlier they wanted for the Lakers to force feed every shot through Kobe tonight.

The hypocrisy and bitterness. Like the bitterness is so there, you can tell that the stans are emotionally hurt. Like they got their heart ripped out. I predict that Durant is going to be the new Lebron here, in terms of hate from Kobe fans.

The hypocrisy and bitterness. Like the bitterness is so there, you can tell that the stans are emotionally hurt. Like they got their heart ripped out. I predict that Durant is going to be the new Lebron here, in terms of hate from Kobe fans.
I wouldn't be surprised if that happened. Actually, I see it happening already. :oldlol:

win-win-win situation for Kobe

He doesn't play: This guy i a true winner, doesn't care about individual accolades.

He plays and doens't get to the record: same as above

He plays and drops 40: Man, easily the best scorer in the game, whenever he wants to light it up, he can.

I read the article on ESPN. I like how Kobe mentioned five or a thousand times that he could score 38 points, and that everyone knew he could. Oh, and a shout out to Mike Brown for sucking Kobe's dick in the article. Have some self respect, you potato.

Kobe kept trying to make the point that he could "easily" score 38 if he wanted to. As if Durant couldn't have "easily" scored 45 both of these last 2 games to put it out of reach. :oldlol:

Kobe only had to score 38 because Durant didn't care that much about it to begin with.

This sucks. It really blows for both Laker fans and Kings fans who want to see Kobe. I'm a little disappointed. I respect his decision, but it still sucks.

how do you know that? you are making assumptions about what is in Durant's head. In order for Durant to easily score 45, he would have had to diss Westbrook. It is not easy to diss Westbrook.

He had 32 without playing AT ALL in the 4th quarter two games back. How do I know? I saw it.

And he barely gave a damn late in the game last night. If he wanted to score 10-15 more points, he could have done it in both games.

Have at it Durant, the scoring champion hasn't won a championship since 2000 :oldlol:

As if the lakers have a chance to win it all this year anyways :confusedshrug:

Cant believe people are in an uproar, Durant just won 3 in a row and all we get the hear is more whining smh.

My gut tells me that Kobe does want it, but not at the extent of receiving criticism for gunning for it. Playing in this game just wears him out for the playoffs when the results would be 1 or 2 things:

1. He doesn't get it, and people say he couldn't have.
2. He does get it, and people criticize him for gunning for it.

Besides the plaque and acknowledgement, it was a lose lose situation to play tonight.

your gut stinks..

"oh no critism from 1% of the basketball community who hates Kobe!!!"

15 years of epic basketball....scoring spree's that no one has ever seen before...7 NBA Finals 5 Championships...

My gut tells me Kobe doesn't give 2 ****'s about .8 of a point...

(although the only reason I had hoped he would drop 40 was to see the small % of haters spam the board about his selfishness.....would have been great...Kobe could drop 40 on the Kings blindfolded)

Not sure why people are arguing so fervently about this. It's not like Durant destroyed Kobe - the difference between their PPG is less than half a point. Sure, maybe Kobe doesn't win but it's not he completely fell apart at the end.

We should be commending Durant for playing well enough to average 28 PPG or whatever the exact decimals were and Kobe for still being good enough to average slightly less than a top 3 player in his 16th season at 33. I'm sure some of you guys will bring up "oh he shot with Iverson percentages and hogged the ball blah blah blah" but you have to remember that A) the Lakers are one of the top-heaviest teams in the league along with Miami and B) he's their only consistent perimeter threat as well as spending half the year as their only good playmaker.

So congrats to Durant for winning the scoring title.

Not true. Look at my posts, I said he should. Why not? He or the team had nothing to lose. People just like to whine here, whine about going for it, whine about not going for it.. it's a never ending circle of retard and we're all guilty (except me because I'm awesome).

I give my congrats to KD.

Here's the thing about Kobe's decision:

I'm sure he made the best decision for him and his team. I mean, why risk potential injury with it being the final game of the regular season? Might as well rest instead of hurting yourself, you know?

But had Kobe played tonight, the basketball world would've imploded with critics claiming Kobe is a selfish asshole for playing for individual accomplishments, etc., etc. It must suck to be put in that position. If you play to win, you're selfish. If you don't play, people claim it's because you know you can't win it. :facepalm

I think he could easily win it if he played. On 56 shots.

I don't understand these crazy extrapolations from kobe missing 1-2 more shots per game than the very best. I just don't get it.

Kobe shoots 43% durant shoots 49%. Chandler shoots 68%, lebron shoots 53%. You'd think everyone would be the "lol, he can't score unless he takes 45 shots" thing if you compare it that way. And if its because chandler is a big and has a simple playstyle, can't we consider kobe's playstyle as a detriment to fg in the same way? If we don't criticize everyone for not dunking all the time, should we criticize kobe for not being against taking harder shots than most people in a position that has much better defenders than people of 6'8+ size?

I'm not saying that it means kobe needs to be considered equal to peers in efficiency, but damn. Where does this he needs 56 shots to score 38 points joke even come from? How many times has he ever done anything remotely close to that? It has to be semi realistic to be funny.

When you lead the league in FG attempts for the year and still don't win the Scoring Title? That means you were already being a selfish asshole. Now he's just a selfish asshole, who wasted all of that chucking just to come in second place.

He's so gangsta that he's 2 for 7 for FMVP's. And the last one should be Pau's. So yeah, real gangsta.

Would've been tough for him to score 38pts especially, because he would be the only guy the kings would've have to guard, cause the rest of the top starters were going to get the night off.

If Kobe was the only starter to play for L.A.L and came up short from winning it, now that would've looked bad. He had more to loose if he did play.
