I actually find this information fascinating, CacaliersFTW, thanks for posting.
I'm surprised that Bill Russell only had size 14 shoes. I have size 14 shoes, and I'm only 6'4", compared to his 6'10.

I can tell you right now, Kobe's hand length is not within a half inch of jordan's.....
MJ's hands are 10" and Kobe's 9.125 (1/8th rather than 1/4) now that I look at which is still closer than even I expected but here I'll give you the source - it doesn't sound right on paper but it doesn't seem as far fetched with the visual overlay - Jordans hands looked much broader despite the closeness in length. It's like Russell/Shaq's hand vs Wilt's - Wilt's hands were actually shorter but they were actually larger in surface area due to the spread

haters... :coleman:
thanks for posting this, I found it really interesting.
observations:
-I can't believe I'm only one shoe size smaller than MJ...
-Dwight being 6'9 makes his defensive presence all the more impressive
-Dwyane Wade being 6'3 makes his whole career all the more impressive, especially his shot-blocking
-Shaq size 22 shoe  -- that's absurd. Say you wear a size twelve, now look down at your foot. Imagine it being TEN inches longer. ridiculous.

your focusing too much on hand length. At least according to that graph, Jordans hands are not only longer than Kobe's by almost an inch but they are much much broader in appearance. Stretched out his thumb to pinky might be 2 full inches longer than Kobe's thumb to pinky measurement. I'm not saying the source is or isn't correct it's just something worth noting. If the source happens to be wrong, the error would be in the sillhouette of Kobe's hand size as Jordans have been cited by more than 1 source to be between 9 3/4 to 10 in length. Don't underestimate how much hand breadth contributes to the appearance of hand size

That's why Shaq was so durable and huge. He was insanely well proportioned to be that big and hold that much weight.

I'd say the LA times has the sillhouettes pretty accurate - just because 1 dimension (length) looks closer than you'd expect doesn't mean Jordans hands wouldn't be visibly much larger in person, we're talking about a 3 dimensional object here not 1 dimensional. Using cubed law, if Jordans hands were 10% longer, and let's say 10-15% wider - plus 10% thicker than his hands would look 30-35% more massive than Kobe's. That sound about right to you?

clearly, Kobe's wrist is not flexed like Jordan's...nor is his hand on the center of the ball like Jordan's is.
Jordan's hand is clearly mammoth compared to Kobe's, length and width.

His hands might even be 15-20% wider for all I know which would mean up close and in person his mits would look 40% bigger to the naked eye. Length doesn't tell the whole story, and ~9 inches for Kobe sounds about right for his hand length anything less would mean he has small hands for an NBA player his size. His hands aren't small, they just look small compared to MJ's

You don't know the other guys hand measurements. I've seen this video, I know that their difference is hand size and I know that MJ's are huge. I don't think you understand at all what ~1" difference in length can mean... are you still not understanding that it equates to ~30-40% greater overall size? Likely closest to 40 because Jordan's hands look wider in relation to length than Kobe's. I'd almost guarentee Kobe's hands aren't less than 9 inches in length
10" hands are very long
9" hands are rather typical

There is nothing here to "understand". Jordan's hands were immense, length and width compared to Kobe's.

 but he's the longest reach+wingspan player in the NBA today, I guess I could remove him though, I might put Tyson Chandler in his place since he's one of the bigger centers in the league today.
I'm going to add some PG's and a few more PF/SF's to the list next time I update it

holy fck Bwink, you know this is old.
That's why Shaq was so durable and huge. He was insanely well proportioned to be that big and hold that much weight.
Uh .... that's not how shoe sizes work.
Wrong quote. Meant to address Shaq having a 22" foot.

I'm taller than Michael Jordan, probably Kobe as well. If this thread had existed when I was 16 my entire life would be diff.
