View Full Version : Rajon Rondo ejection. Possible suspension ?

He bumped the ref after being tossed.
He could lose a game for that.
Thoughts ?
EDIT - He bumped BEFORE. That's why he got tossed, my bad.

This will be an even stupider one than the Turkoglu suspension earlier in the year... Some saying on twitter Rondo was tripped slightly or something. Either way I'm sure Stern and his refs will find some way to pin this on the Celtics.
Ridiculous end to the game.

If Turk can get suspended for placing a hand on the shoulder of a ref, Rondo will certainly for bumping an official intentionally.
Dumb, dumb move.

Rondo has to be suspended for a game. They have no leeway in the rule when you purposely bump an official. Rondo shows that he has all the maturity of a 13 year old. What an idiot.

Why is anyone blaming the ref(s)? This is getting out of hand.
Did the ref make rondo lose it? No. Did he make him chest bump him? No.
Looking for blame? Blame rondo. He's a grown man.

THey won't suspend him.
and BOS fans stop complaining, you're not gonna win when PP plays lazy and turnovers kill us.
This game is upsetting because Johnson shot like dog crap, and other than Heinrich hitting those 3's Teague and Smith beat us.
Smith is going to get his, We have no one to match up on him. I honestly say let him score big and keep everyone else off.. PP showed he can defend Johnson.
Still feel good that we win in 6

He didn't stumble into the ref.
He tripped on the back of the ref's foot. Replay's pretty clear on that.
But what's also clear is that he was right up in the ref's face and he had no business being there. Hence the suspension he's going to get for Game 2.
Relax. He deserves it and I'm not saying otherwise.

Yep. Cos the refs are 6 year old girls :facepalm rulebook is stupid. But this is what it says... "NBA rulebook: Any player... guilty of intentional physical contact w/official shall automatically be suspended without pay for one game"
So bye bye Rondo, maybe we should rest the rest of the big 3, Atlanta barely beat us last time we did that

no suspension coming. that bump was weak but did deserve the ejectionThe rule is exactly like coming off the bench. There is zero tolerance. The fact that it was a terrible call makes no difference. The only issue is whether they lie and say that he tripped and fell into the ref, but that is a bailout, since he obviously extended his chest purposely.

I think if it was a game 6 and going on game 7 you don't suspend Rondo. Yet, you have to do it. Why? If you're stupid enough to lose your tempter in a game 1 like that, you have to suffer the consequences. Rondo should never have put himself in that position.

Fighting back on what? You HAVE to keep your cool in those situations. You're down four with 1:30 to go...you can't scream at a ref and then get right in his face and bump him.
You wanna be intense and passionate? Channel it into penetrating that anemic Hawks' defense. Maybe stop letting Kirk Hinrich bury open three's all f*cking game.
You don't shout at the refs in today's NBA because chances are great that they're going to punish you for doing so.

BallsOut

I don't know it looks like he tripped over the refs foot and his momentum carried him forward, but since he was already going in that direction he had to bump into the ref.
I don't think he should get suspended for that. Maybe a fine for whatever he said to the ref, but that's as far as I would go.

In a league filled with a majority 6 foot+ tall, muscular and intimidating black males, Stern has to approach this with a zero tolerance policy. Any NBA player showing intimidation techniques to a person in a position of authority who are often older white males, would cause serious and disturbing implications for the majority white, middle class NBA audience. Stern obviously is aware of this and will do whatever it takes to steer the NBA away from a "thuggish" image in the minds of the public. That said, Rondo will absolutely receive a suspension, and rightly so for bringing in his hoodlum and thuggish actions.

AMISTILLILL
04-29-2012, 11:51 PM
Whatever the case, Rondo never should have been in the position to trip, bump, or come into any sort of contact with the referee. If he hadn't been leaning in to bark at the referee over the call, he wouldn't have wound up in the mess he's in.
90% of the time the kid is able to use that chip on his shoulder to the advantage of the team. In this case, he may have cost his team the series.

I expect a 1 game suspension. As others have pointed out, Rondo indeed tripped on the foot of the ref which may have caused the contact, but the fact that he was arguing a call while in the refs face and then initiated physical contact while the ref walked away will see him out of action for game 2.
