Russell Westbrook- Not because he's a freak athlete, but because he really relies on it. WHen I see him play i see a guy who any point could suffer a Rose/Shumpert like ACL tear injury from lack of fundamentals and crazy explosion.
Blake griffin- The flavor of the last year, He works hard so I don't expect him to not be the franchise, but take his athletiscm away and I think you'd have Kris Humpries type PF. Still good though.
I feel like some players need to take notes from Rondo, and Parker. super quick and fast guys that pace their athletiscm...

wade but i'm taking a different route than most people. he's an undersized SG. he can go into the post but he relies on his athleticism to do the rest. once that is gone, he's not going to match up well posting up bigger guards. thus, his game is going to have major problems adjusting and transitioning to the post like many guards do as they age. i also see his defense suffering a lot as he loses athleticism
griffin. still has plenty of time but his footwork needs major work
outbreak
05-03-2012, 01:18 AM
Griffin will be done. Lebron relies on his athleticism alot but with his ball handling and distributing I see him backing off the scoring himself and still being a top all round contributor. Westbrook atm but I think by the time he's that old he'll have learnt how to compensate.

In my opinion the reason Rose gets injured is because his whole game is based on athleticism. He should conserve his body by setting other players up for 4-5 games in a row. But he just can't. His game is strictly blow past his man make a circus shot or get fouled. Repeat.

Yea, none of this is true, at all. He spends the first 3 quarters as facilitator, then uses his athleticism heavily in the 4th. And even then, he doesn't just ram into the lane like Wade did. In case you haven't noticed, he perfected one of the hardest shots in basketball, the Floater.

What keeps Rose off the list is that he's shown the drive to want to improve different aspects of his game. So if he ever did lose his athleticism, he'd find some way to still be effective. I see Rose doing what he's doing now, then becoming like Chauncey Billups in his mid-late 30s, and becoming more of a shooter.

Man some of yall sleeping on wade.he is the second best sg in the league for a reason.post game is outstandin and he has great footwork.now as far as players who rely to much on their athleticism it goes a lil summin like dis:
1. Russell westbrook
2. Dwight howard
3. Blake griffin
4.amare stoudemire
5.monta ellis
6. Michael beasley ( cant believe nobody named him )
7. Last but not least.........DEANDRE JORDAN.omg i thought javale mcghee was trash at least on denver he starting to look like something.deandre doesnt block shots well, his rebounding could be better,iq is just awful, defense is decent but he should be at least a carbon copy of ibaka at worst.maybe the clippers should move deandre to the four, griffin to the three cuz i notice griffin likes to dribble to damn much to be a pf.he gone have to try and develop a perimeter game like beasely has been tryin and the clippers start evans at the five.idk

Wade could easily average 20 a game without jumping. People dont watch Heat games? His low/high post game, midrange game is impeccable.
okayabc123
05-03-2012, 02:49 AM
Wade's great footwork is heavily relied on his athleticism. The reason why he can do the eurostep or the spin moves is because he puts so much torque and effort to get try to get by his defenders. Kobe's footwork is not really on athleticism, he baits defenders and uses counter moves based on opponents defensive position.
That's why Wade when his athleticism declines, his game is going to be affected a lot more than Kobe does. Never mind that Wade can be inconsistent from mid-range and he is still a pretty poor 3 point shooter at best. Maybe one out of every 3-4 games he will make a few 3s, but he isn't reliable from the outside.

Rose is injury prone, he lacks any practical basketball IQ to make up for his driving ability.
90% of his game is built on athleticism.
Without it he's useless. A weak 2-guard.
Smoke117
05-03-2012, 03:30 AM
You are guys are idiots. Wade's game won't be affected as much as you think as he ages for one simple factor: length. A players length makes up for the fact that he is losing speed and quickness and Wade has incredible length that will keep him playing at an all star level until he is around 34-35.
Tenchi Ryu
05-03-2012, 03:35 AM
Rose is injury prone,
First year being injured like this....so WRONG already
he lacks any practical basketball IQ to make up for his driving ability.
Is that why he leads the league in Hockey assists?
90% of his game is built on athleticism.
Is that why his most used shot is the floater, the one that requires a lot of practice and skill to pull off?
These haters don't be knowing what they talking bout.
stallionaire

Rose does have a nice floater but you have to be kidding to say that he doesn't burst into the lane/paint to pull it off in the first place.

Well you must not be paying attention, Boozer has been the same ole Boozer, putting up double double stats, and rebounding his ass off. He's still offensively strong, no one has a problem with his offense. Its his Defense that puts him on the chopping block..

Of course he does, but you said 90% as in thats ALL it is, and that's not the case at all. Now he COULD just blow by people, but now he uses more screens, crosses and brakes ankles and will dish the rock and get it back in the paint.
He still uses his athleticism, but his game wasn't PURELY based on it as much as last year.

Dwyane Wade
Wade actually has a pretty legit post game for a SG. I actually think he's just going to end up being injured too much, as opposed to losing it on athleticism.
I'd probably say Westbrook, maybe Rose. I think Griffin will develop his post game as he ages.

Most players get hurt before retiring anyway.
Brad Miller is a player with no athletic ability and play by just pure skills and yet Vince Carter stayed relevant longer than he did.
not everybody is Steve Nash, Kareem, and Michael Jordan.
The Ownage

Griffin already has a decent post game. He'll definitely become somewhat like an Al Jefferson player once his athleticism is gone.
Dwight Howard and Josh Smith come to mind.
Bandito
05-03-2012, 10:48 AM
Before I would say James but he improved in alot of facets in his offense, specially the post. He still sucks at them, but his jumper and post game improve slightly at least, so I think when his athleticsm is gone he could get at least 20 ppg per game. I don't if his passing would still as good because that facet of his game is very dependent of his athleticsm, but I see him averaging at least 4 assists per game. He's always gonna be a big guy so his rebound shouldn't get down much.
Rose now that's a player that I think if his athleticsm is gone he's gonna be like an Arenas type player. He hasn't done much to improve his game from what I've seen.

I personally am not impressed with his footwork, but this is just beyond stupid
Anyone saying Wade, Rose, Westbrook are fcking retarded. All 3 of those guys are solid defenders, can hit the 3 ball, and are good mid range players. They only thing they lose when their athletisim declines is pulling off those highlight reel dunks, which doesn't account for much of what they offer. All 3 of those guys will be just fine as they age.
My answer: Blake Griffin. He is a post man with no post moves. Charles Barkley says this all the time, all he is, is a dunker. He's not a solid defender either. I can't think of another player in the league who relies on their athletisim as much as Blake does. He can hit a 15 footer, but not consistently enough as to where he doesn't have a huge drop of in production. Plain and simple, he needs to develop some post moves.

wade is good footwork (euro step and probably the best spin move in the NBA).. but he has decent footwork out of the post...
i think lebron will do fine once his athleticism goes away, he is still very strong and big...
kobe has the best footwork overall...perhaps in the entire nba...

why dont you rose homers ever get on rose about letting every single point guard he plays into the lane? if he was any good on defense that team would be unstoppable.
:facepalm :facepalm :facepalm :facepalm
Is that why Jrue Holiday had a terrible 26 point game the other day?
These Heat trolls just say any shit they can think of.

Really hard to predict because you're basically assuming certain players wouldn't adjust. I remember when people said that Jason Kidd would become irrelevant when his speed gave out cause he wouldn't be able to run fastbreaks and had no jumper for the half court. Dude is still effective big time as he approaches 40.
