View Full Version : Avengers has biggest opening weekend of all-time

Watched it yesterday afternoon. It's a good flick for what it is, but I don't know, there's no depth at all to any of these Marvel movies. Nice action, some decent one liners, but you don't actually get invested in any of it.
That's fine, I'm not saying that's necessarily a bad thing for a big blockbuster, just kinda disappinting.

I never read the comics that much but I always wondered why most of Marvel heroes are in NY and how come they barely meet. :oldlol:

Relax on Spiderman guys. The sole reason that series is being rebooted is so that Spiderman can be added to the Avengers. Not sure if it will be 2nd or 3rd one but the actors are on contract for 3 Avengers movies last I heard.

Am I the only one that thinks ALL the Spiderman movies ****ing sucked? Obviously 3 sucked big ass Lex Steele dick, but none of them were actually good.
I'm fine with cartoony type action and all, I'm not expecting every superhero movie to be Dark Knight style, but all the Marvel stuff is just so fluffy, I can't get into it.

Ah NVM I was talking out of my ass. I guess Sony+Marvel aren't fond of working together and there is speculation that Sony will not allow Spiderman movies to be involved in Avengers/Marvel. It sucks! Not same without Spidey. He's my favorite superhero next to Batman+Hulk.

I strongly disagree. Other than TDK and stuff like the punisher, Spider-Man was as far from fluffy as a superhero movie can be. I would even go as far as calling the Spider-Man movies gritty and depressing.

I disagree. 2 was one of the best superhero movies ever and 1 was very solid/good. IMO.That's the problem with the superhero genre. I get that they're based on comics and all, but there's just no heart to any of them. I'm not asking for like gratuitous violence and R ratings all the time (though that'd be GREAT), but just movies that aren't just popcorn bucket fillers.
Other than the Batman flicks they all just feel like blatant cashgrabs in the end. A lot of them are fun movies, you spend the 2 hours in the theatre and have a little fun and that's it. You forget about it. Like I said, that's not inherently bad, it's a pretty fun medium to begin with, but it's just treated so immaturely outside of Batman. I'm not a big comic fan at all but I've gotta assume the diehard fans are at least somewhat embarrassed that an at times pretty mature genre gets treated with such kid gloves.

That's the thing. Unlike Avengers, Thor, Hulk, Iron Man, Captain America etc... I think Spider-Man breaks that popcorn movie Marvel trend and is more similar to Dark Knight. I found the Spider-Man movies to be FAR more emotionally involved, serious and depressing than the other Marvel films. In terms of depth/seriousness I put it somewhere in between Batman and Iron Man let's say.
Also don't forget those movies were made in 2001-2005 or so. Technology has come so far that they can make it look/feel a lot more realistic.
Edit: Basically Alamo said same thing. I actually find Spider-Man more serious/deep like Dark Knight/Punisher as he said.

I completely agree. But for a lot of people it seems the only thing that constitutes a great movie is corny one-liners and some cars exploding. Maybe my inner child is just dead but it takes a lot more to engage me than loud noises and shiny things on a screen. Hopefully Prometheus and Rises are worth the wait.

I would go as far as saying that Spider-Man is more depressing than TDK. Not only did Peter Parker's life completely suck, but they made the watcher deal with him being the responsible for Uncle Ben's death. Also during the fight scenes Spider-Man takes a huge beating, you can almost feel his pain as he's fighting with visible cuts and bruises that you can see through his torn costume.

Punisher? That movie was alright i guess, but in terms of quality.. i'd say Spiderman was a lot better. Then, Batman Begins/Dark Knight are at the top.
I'd have to say that I agree with your overall thoughts though. I have enjoyed Spiderman/Spiderman 2 and Nolan's Batman the most of any comic book movies I've seen to this point. Those have had the most engaging characters (Batman from Batman Begins, Spiderman from both movies, Joker from the Dark Knight, Ra's Al Ghul from BB).

I personally wouldn't go that far, but I have similar feelings. Excessive melodrama, taking itself way too seriously, the waste of a two face story, and that absolutely ridiculous political commentary via the whole spy network thing to find the Joker. Not nearly as good as people make it seem. I'll take Avengers or Spider Man 2 over that thing any day.

Funny is that if you watch both Iron Man films, there is always a cameo of Captain America's shield.
Then after you watch Captain America you learn that...
SPOILER: ...it was Howard Stark, the father of Tony, who personally designed Captain America's shield.
END SPOILER.
Iron Man's plot was fantastic. That counts for something in my books. I'm not like other guys saying I want them to be TDK. But I want something solid like Thor and Iron man had. Not the rest of the movies. To me that puts it over the top.
And I had issues with The Avengers. It's a damn good movie, but specifically Captain America going to the back of the helicopter and seeing if Fury was hiding things. IMO, Cap would never do anything because he's the perfect soldier and respects his superiors ALWAYS.
And a second annoyance was the doctor building in a fail safe? And it being the staff really? If he was being controlled...how did he know to build in a failsafe? Or much less how to build one.
And I realize Iron Man had it's plotholes too, but still. The first one to me is a huge one and the biggest in all the movies so far.
And I realize you can't do much plot with an ensemble cast like that. So I was very impressed. I just imagine I'll watch Iron Man more than the Avengers.

Agreed, Thor was the one I was least pumped about going into, but it's the real gem of the whole series. Sure Avengers is fun, but the characters are pretty one-dimensional.

wow i actually agree with this unpopular opinion. definitely with the uneven comment, and i'd add the action was almost like Predator vs Alien where its so choppy fast in the dark, its not as satisfying as it should be. i think the goth and dark aspects makes people who really love that type of cinema very bias for it. i also thought Ledger was overrated as the Joker, only because he gets so much praise for it its ridiculous. and Maggie Gylenhol is a bad cast for the female.
i gave it a try like 3~ times thinking the earlier times i might've not realized how good it was like everyone acts, but still didn't think it was as good as the hype. it was being spammed on pay channels for awhile.

I hate 3D action movies. Unfortunately, I couldn't find a non 3D time yet

I had zero interest and my girl talked me into it :D . How bad is Green Lantern? I still haven't seen it but I hear it was better than reviews said.
It's okay for a 1-time watch at most, nothing more. 5/10.

To be fair these things should happen since there's more people living on Earth more than ever then it probably opened at like 5000+ theaters nation wide in America.
It was surprisingly good though. I didn't expect it to be better than any of the Iron Mans or Thor and it was.
If anyone knows a good way to watch this movie free online in high quality please PM me. Not familiar with torrents and all that. Appreciate it if anyone can help me out.

no movie is good enough to pay for 7 times in theaters.

He got confused somewhere along the way. There is a separate article where Weldon talks about deleted scenes from the Avengers movie.
