His statement is not entirely false. When you are out of shape, you put a lot of stress on your body, and are more prone to injury. These things happen, but being out of shape certainly doesnt help. Look at guys like eddy Curry. Injuries are more likely when you are not in top physical shape.

Being out of shape doesnt help, but his injuries this season are likely the biggest contributor. He had a herniated disk and that just puts so much stress on other areas of the body to compensate. His core was not 100%

He's 230+ man. He should be 200. So I guess 30 pounds overweight. Gary Payton was 6'4" 200 pounds and was strong as a bull. Since he was at UCLA he was criticized for carrying way too much on his frame. When he was with the Clippers our trainers leaked that the guy was closer to 250 at one point.

Don't like either LBJ or Baron Davis Barons injury looks gruesome but I'll venture to say he'll make a complete recovery. Can't believe I can't get abc on dish network in the Midwest that is completely messed up. LBJ not laughing. Looks like a dislocated knee considering mech of injury I'll bet it just needs to be popped back into place hope no major knee damage. He's obviously out for several months. Hope he's ok thanks for the YouTube clip. Major damage typically occurs from jump and awkward land, not while running, hope I'm right.

baron might be done he torn everything in his knee... wish the best for him

garytalarino
05-06-2012, 08:12 PM
At Baron's age, that injury will take 1.5 years to come back from, and given Baron's commitment to keeping in shape in the past, tack on at least another 6 months on top of that. He's done. He's made himself a boatload of money, his recent injury history is rough, and he wasn't happy when he was behind Lin on the depth chart. He's not going to do all that work to come back when the only team he could start for will be the Bobcats.

Some are saying because he was out of shape his knee exploded? Doubtful. Mike Sweetney, Oliver Miller, Eddy Curry to name a few - none of these guys' knees exploded like Baron's, and, as Chuck would say, the only reason any of them would touch the rim would be if there was a cheeseburger resting on it. Sh1t happens. Shaun Livingston was in peak shape, and his knee just blew out. If he didn't make the league, it would've gone out in some pick-up game back home in Illinois. If Derrick Rose was taken out of game 1 with 2 minutes left, he would've blow out his ACL in game 2. Some parts of certain people's bodies are ticking time bombs.

All the same, I hope Baron makes a full recovery and plays in the league again. A frustrating player with a disappointing career overall considering his god-given talent, but seems to be a good dude overall - nobody deserves what happened today.

No matter what happens, I'll never forget the round 1 series victory over Dallas and the dunk of AK47 as long as I live.

Naw... I think 200 would be ideal for Davis. He's 6'3 more realistically. I say he can be 200 ish because he is a post up guard more so than Rose etc. Andre Miller is a good sized PG for example with a thick frame and superb post up/power game and he's 6'2 200.

Gruesome indeed. I dont think davis' extra fat and insufficient conditioning is to blame. It just gave. Rose looks to be in tip top shape and his prior injuries doesnt seem to include knee injuries but his acl tore after a simple landing. It's the accumulation of knee stress resulting to some underlying and unforeseen irregularities to some parts of the knee.... Now maybe davis' extra fat and improper conditioning puts extra stress on his knee but if this compressed season proves anything about non-player contact injuries, it proves that it can happen to anybody.

I was speaking in general. Agree this year it's purely the compressed season. It's no coincidence that 4 players have blown their knees in the first round. David Stern is full of shit.

It hurts like a mother****** and recovery is a bitch, but my athleticism didn't decrease that much as far as I can tell (after surgery)

Still, with Baron already a shell of what he once was, this might be the finisher.

So what's the difference, exactly (if you know), between that and just dislocating your knee? Because there has to be. She never had surgery.

Are people really this ****ing stupid? You people really can't tell the difference between a grimace and a smile? I'm not even a Lebron James fan and I'm sick of all the shit this guy gets, it's absurd.

I suppose it'll depend upon structural damage. I actually had a student dislocate her knee playing softball, but structural damage was limited. So for as gross as it looked, her recovery time was actually startlingly quick.

i looked up the injury and it said 6-16 weeks.

assuming baron gets the best doctors and best rehab specialist he should be fine.

but i think they still have to do some kind of MRI tomorrow to see the full extent of that injury.

that picture some posted a page back or so is so strange to look at. just seeing the indentation of where his knee cap is suppose to be is just crazy.

How the hell was he smiling after that? it looked like hes knee got smashed in by a hammer, he must have been numb from the adrenaline when it happened but I bet he was hurting like hell once they took him in the lockeroom.

it kinda looked like he was at peace. honestly, i wouldn't be surprised if he retired. that is a bad injury for a player of his age and injury history. maybe he was smiling because he was reflecting back on his career?

He has always seemed like a positive and care free guy. While I wasnt a big fan of his work ethic, he always had a great attitude and nothing ever got him down. I agree with you, I think he was smiling because he kind of knew it was the end and honestly happy go lucky is his personality.

Agreed. Classy from D-Wade and LeBron to go over and check how he was just before he left too. As much as it sucks him getting the injury, it was still pretty cool to see him smiling and getting dap from other players as he went off.

Have to agree also that this is probably the end of Baron's career, a real shame.

A guy his age and with his knee problem history is def. going to have problems with a injury like this. And how do we know the extent of the injury? He hasnt gotten a MRI so it can be a lot more serious. I dont know why you are even trying to compare this situation to Rondo.

I just hate it when people say things like "well 3 years ago he was a beast" lol. And he has been pretty horrible the past 3 years. He has been injured every single one of those years. He is not going to somehow miraculously not be injury prone. Father time always wins.

Baron has had to come back from so many various injuries these last few years, often playing WITH injuries just to see some court time. Rondo is a bad example. He's a normally perfectly healthy player who got a freak injury, and it was never in doubt he'd come back and be the same player. In fact, didn't he even play during the very same game that happened?

This is a lot more serious. Couple that with Baron's age, the fact he's carrying more than 'just' this new knee injury. Is it really going to be worth it doing all the rehab again? He's spent more time doing rehab the last few years than he has been on the court, and this was before last nights injury. I just can't see it happening I'm afraid.

you realize baron was contemplating retiring after his back injury this season, right? GS baron was one of my favorite players to watch. that's when you saw a motivated baron. he's older now though and has various ailments.

even if he rehabs his knee, he could tweak his back in the process. chronic back problems are serious. just look at tj ford. he's not even 30 and he was forced to retire because of his back.

we don't even know what kind of structural damage he has. the tendons and ligaments in his knee could be severely strained, leaving behind lots of scar tissue.

he's had a really rough thee seasons and he may just call it a career. it wouldn't be shocking at all imo

The Patella is quite motile so there is a chance of it being dislocated without rupturing any ligaments. That's just not the case for Baron, but otherwise a dislodged patella is quite common and recovery is no longer then 4-6 weeks.

Well, he's going to go through extensive rehab either way obviously.

I don't see him coming back either though. It's going to be the 13-14 season for him if he wants to make his return, and he was a pretty marginal player as it is. Can't imagine him contributing on the NBA level with even less athleticism and over a year of playing no ball.

Too bad because Baron definitely earned playing as a valuable reserve on a nice playoff team in his last years. He shouldered some bad teams for a long time and was a warrior on the court.
