DENVER -- Douglas County sheriff's deputies have searched the home of popular Denver Nuggets center Chris "Birdman" Andersen.

Sheriff's spokesman Ron Hanavan confirmed that the search took place Thursday as part of an investigation conducted by the department's Internet Crimes Against Children unit. Andersen has not been arrested and Hanavan said no arrest warrant has been issued.

The department began investigating Andersen in February after receiving information from a law enforcement agency in California. Hanavan declined to release details, including the nature of any pending charges, citing an ongoing investigation. He said they're asking that the case be sealed.

The sheriff's office said it recovered property from Andersen's home that investigators believe is connected with the case. Hanavan wouldn't comment on what was taken or release a document listing the property, citing the pending investigation.

Mark Bryant, who serves as Andersen's agent and attorney, said: "At this time, I respect the process and I have no further comment to protect the integrity of everyone involved. We'll proceed from there."

A message left at Andersen's home wasn't immediately returned Thursday to The Associated Press.

The Nuggets had no immediate comment.

Andersen, 33, is in his 10th year in the NBA and his seventh season in Denver, although his playing time dropped dramatically this season as young players gobbled up more minutes.

He averaged 5.3 points and 4.6 rebounds in the regular season and hasn't played in the Nuggets' first-round playoff series against the Los Angeles Lakers.

Andersen has a history of helping out children's charities during his time in Denver and New Orleans, where he played from 2004 to 2008. According to the Nuggets' media guide, Andersen raised money for Mount Saint Vincent, a home for troubled and abused children, and was honored at the home's 2009 Silver Bell Ball.

He's also involved with Alliance for Choice in Education, which provides scholarships for low-income families to use in private schools.

His middle name is Claus, and he dressed up as Santa to raise money for ACE in 2009, according to his media guide bio. He also helped with hunger initiatives while with the Hornets.

Think it said there was one more person. I dunno, it has to be pretty serious for them to investigate I'd think right? I'm not really sure about this area of the law so I dunno. I just assume it was like everything else and for it to get an investigation and have it blow up like this that it's probably pretty serious. Weather or not he did it, should probably wait for that.

This is why I don't think they should release crap like this. Based on the released information his IP Address was linked somehow to something bad. That doesn't mean it was him. It doesn't even mean it was the other guy living there. Lots of explanations out there that get us to a better result. Of course, they will never formally and publicly say he did nothing wrong. And even if they did it wouldn't be news.

I agree they shouldn't release info on cases like this until someones found guilty. It's not hard for someone else to have been accessing sites using his ip address. If he's guilty though he should get no protection, here in Australia our laws protect their identity once found guilty and it's total bs

Incorrect. He pled no contest to a misdemeanor that didn't require registration. The only NBA player (excluding players who never had a legit NBA career and only played a season or two) who has ever been on the sex offender list in any state is Ruben Patterson, which was the result of him pleading guilty to 3rd degree rape of his housekeeper/nanny.

BREAKING NEWS!!!

Yahoo SportsLine has just confirmed news that Kobe Bryant has confessed to killing dogs and feeding them to underage kids, while sick on a bad knee and wrist. The Laker guard issued a statement Thursday afternoon.

"At first I wanted to fake an illness to gain praise if I played well, or use it as an excuse in case I didn't. But after hearing of Chris Anderson's case my competitive side of me wanted to get the top headline. What better way to beat his headlines than by killing dogs and then feeding them to babies and cute lil white girls? And if that's not enough, I did it all on a bad knee and wrist... c'mon, you can't beat that!"

In an attempt to be normal Bynum was quoted "I have no comment", but in typical Bynum fashion he followed that by elbowing a reporter who asked him about his Mother's Day plans and then shouted "I'm Bynum nigg@ I don'ts gives a f*ck! f*ck yo mom too. i'll drop 40 points tonight".

Artest couldn't be reached for comment as he was busy talking to Rodman on how to out do them all. Rodman was quoted as telling Peace to just "suck all 3 of their d*cks."

unknowingly? sure. knowingly and with clear intent? no. it boils down to just how obvious/questionable the material is (if they end up finding it). if he was googling '13-17 yo girls' and saving pictures, good luck with that one.

other societies might be more liberal (and some more strict) about it in those instances but the united states frown upon that and animal abuse. perpetrators of those crimes just tend to get more ridicule and in jail? generally puts a target on your back as well. all kinds of different criminals in jail but the vast majority would be united against dudes that are into kids

anyway, all this is speculation. just have to wait. if he lawyers up, that could be a sign he thinks they have something on him. then again, that's not definitive either

Theres a difference between underage and pedophila.

13-17 is called something else, ebophilia or something like that. Its still illegal, whatever, but its totally justifiable. I've seen some smoking hot 16 yr olds online that are fully developed.

In order for this to be caught he would have to be looking at some pretty raunchy stuff man. Like legit 13 y.o girls naked. You can look at fully clothed underage girls all you want, hell even if they are in their underwear. It isn't porn in that sense, although it is what that is used for.

I hope it isn't true. You can find anything on the internet, and if he was looking for that stuff then he likely found an FBI/Police website. Either that or he was using LimeWire/FrostWire which is frequently monitered by the FBI. There is a chat on those that police officers pose as 14 y.o's and talk to grown men. Don't do it guys.

If you were gonna guess an NBA player was a pedo, wouldn't Birdman be your first choice?

This process here is pretty fukked.

If this isn't true (which I strongly hope) he is basically still going to be mistrusted for life.

How can we live in an "innocent until proven guilty" society when they say "we are keeping details private" but it's being "handled by the internet crime against children" unit.

By prohibiting the media from releasing people's names (or other very detailed information) to the public until the person suspected of committing a particular crime has actually been tried and convicted in court. They've basically put the guy's name out there and he hasn't even been formally charged by a prosecutor who has all of the evidence and he's pretty much being railroaded by the media.

For example, instead of stating his name and the team he plays for, the media would only be allowed to report that a member of a Colorado sports team is currently under investigation by the "internet crimes against children" unit. That's all that would be allowed and while it would alert the public about the general facts of the case, it would keep the person's reputation in tact if they end up being innocent. However, if convicted, they should be allowed to then reveal his name and any other relevant info.

If it's 12-13 year olds let him rot. If it's 16-17 years olds masquerading as 18 year olds it's a non-event.

I agree, how can they release his name to the public if he hasnt even been charged??

Doesnt that count as name slander etc?:confusedshrug: Plus its a VERY severe accusation. Potentially career ending... I asked a few times on here lately why birdman wasnt playing, no one had an answer untill now:oldlol:

If they had been monitoring for a while though, I doubt they just arrest / question him for no reason... Really hope its not true:(

Read a few places reporting that he was being investigated for "child pornography and child prostitution". Whether they're just making it up due to the chidrens crime unit or they actually know something is unknown.

I had a friend who lent his laptop to a buddy who did some sh*t like this on it. He had his PC's and everything seized for over a year and was investigated, and he didnt even do anything.

People need to wait for the facts to pass judgement, hell we dont even know whats going on.

In league with 75% blacks, it had to be a white guy who's (possibly) involved in a heinous crime like this. :facepalm

I had to throw in the race card cuz you know, if it was a black player involved in a shooting or drug-related crime we'd all hear about it(race).

If I were Andersen, all I'd be worried about right now is the $9 million remaining on my contract. Everything else is secondary.

Yeah, I hear ya.

Me personally, I don't ever look at it like that (race), but those type of things are going to happen.

Tmz -

"NBA star Chris Andersen -- aka The Birdman -- claims he's NOT guilty of any Internet crime involving children ... claiming he's the victim in an extortion plot involving a 21-year-old woman.

After authorities in Colorado searched the Denver Nuggets player's home and seized property, Andersen's lawyer released a statement ... insisting he was set up by a scorned woman.

Andersen's lawyer explains, "A female fan in 2010 mailed Mr. Andersen multiple letters and included several photos in which she was scantily clad."

"Chris and this woman communicated with each other and in 2011, this woman, who represented herself as 21 years of age, flew to Colorado, showing her required identification. After leaving Colorado, she became upset at his lack of interest. In 2012, she threatened to retaliate if he did not provide financial remuneration. "

Andersen's lawyer claims someone purporting to be the woman's mother followed up with an email that read" 'i want him to pay for everything on her Amazon wish list, 5K for her bedding stuff and her victoria secret wish list."

The statement continues, "The media has been speculating that he's a suspect and not a victim in a criminal investigation. Mr. Andersen has been fully cooperative with the authorities. The investigation is expected to take three weeks. We're confident it will show that Chris did not engage in any criminal conduct."

For the record -- Andersen has neither been arrested nor charged with a crime."

Child molester, eh?

Freaking pathetic, almost as bad as Blake Griffin.:facepalm

People are weird. They make it about that shit then they say,

"Andersen, 33, is in his 10th year in the NBA and his seventh season in Denver, although his playing time dropped dramatically this season as young players gobbled up more minutes."

I dunno man...
