So when i hit 33, i reached the pinnacle of my slobbiness. I was overweight, fat, depressed. I made a pledge to myself, i was gonna reverse that. My motivation was at an all-time low, but i gutted out a 2 and half month stretch where my diet was on point, i worked up to running 6 days a week, lifting 3-4 days, and some basketball in-between. These are links to before and after pics:

After:

http://s650.photobucket.com/albums/uu224/bwink23/AFTER%20PICS/

Recently i've had some "health issues" that have detracted me from being able to reach my potential. I've been bummed over it, and it's seriously hurt my motivational levels to get back on track, and make the most of what i have.

Any stories you guys have that may inspire me to get back on that horse and ride, would be much appreciated.

Nice job...I'm on a quest like that except to gain weight and I am getting faster and stronger but the weight gaining process hasn't happened.

I still can't read your comments bro....calling Jordan " a 6'6 Allen Iverson" is ludicrous beyond belief. If you admit you were saying it in jest, then i will remove you from my ignore list. Message me if you want.

You were in horrible shape for your age, now your in average shape.

What weights do you do, because you don't seem to have worked your triceps much?

I hope you keep up the good work, and find a way to stay focused on improving yourself. There's no sense in worrying about your progress slowing, or your potential being limited. Just keep working, and don't worry about the stuff you can't control. You won't really know what your potential is, until you push yourself to the limit. There's no guarantee that you'll end up where you ideally want to be, but as long as you can look back some day, and know you're better off than you might've been, it will all have been worth it.

I don't recall showing triceps, but they aren't(weren't) that bad at all....Cardio is what really helped to drop the fat. I was down to about 165 from 195 at about 10-13% body fat according to this caliber i bought. I was also ghostly white, maybe if i tanned heavily the definition would show more...just don't care for the cancer that's all.

I would do some standard weights like bench, squats. Your basic lifting regime...and afterwards i would take to the treadmill, track, or ellyptical for about 45-50 minutes in the 145-155 heart rate zone.

And i'd play ball twice a week.

If anything my triceps were probably a bit too strong with respect to my biceps...i would rep with 20 pounds on tri's, 3 sets of 10-12....and 25-35 pounds of bi's, depending on what i was doing.

I tell you what man, DON'T STOP....

as you get older, it gets EXTREMELY difficult to maintain. And you'll be trying to juggle that between work, family, etc.

It's EXHAUSTING.

If there was any advice i would give you, it would be to stay regular. Once it goes, it's very hard to get it back.

While sitting on ISH, feeling this URGENT NEED to post umpteen threads a day, dippin' on Kobe for being "old" at exactly the same age. Which means he's admitting to being an extremely ret**ded 33 year old, who CLEARLY has nothing better to do:roll:

Lifestyle can = workouts and health:

Mountain biking... I burn 1,400 to 1,750 calories each ride and it's full body workout that is so fun you don't give a sh*t how exhausting it is.

https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-n65W51Zd3BA/T0ugZLBdBrI/AAAAAAAADD8/SGpl2OvIouQ/s400/269529_221750107858211_100000696706225_711600_3335 830_n.jpg

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-MeMrPDOmvjw/T0ufybJm_aI/AAAAAAAADDU/_DUHLBerxUE/s640/IMG_6592.JPG

Open Track and Field meets... I found that a lot of Track events you don't actually need to be competing for a school. I liked it in High School and it is an individual accolade sport so if you were ever into it finding events your good at can boost confidence and push you to practice and get better

https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-jUsY-exWR5w/T0uXW0Li4SI/AAAAAAAADCU/VeJgNp8jZNM/s400/jump.jpg

https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-MOuG1-fuI2U/T0uXmpNz4sI/AAAAAAAADCk/cWZ1cI6tXjw/s640/IMG_4167.JPG

Soccer leagues... running and coordination w/o actually thinking about running. It's rapid sprints and jogs too, the best kind of running. In winter months indoor soccer leagues exist that usually start right after indoor basketball leagues end. I suck at soccer, seriously no ball handling skill whatsoever but I can at least play defense and run so I make due

https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-UDgd3hWeTO8/T0uevsk7ISI/AAAAAAAADC0/olQLjkK-uNY/s400/Pass.jpg

Basketball itself... is a great workout
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-3F9k5LYURZE/T0ufYIWbDKI/AAAAAAAADDM/p9qfg39XOgM/s640/B%2526Wjump.jpg

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-y7xwNtkGSr4/T0ufRVKSLDI/AAAAAAAADDE/mHJpTsgd_cs/s400/B%2526Wfaceoff.jpg

Just getting out to hike and explore, never sit inside in the A/C on hot summer days. Get used to the heat, and being free in the outdoors is good for depression slumps

https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-Hx6ofsWol8c/T0ugwItQ4iI/AAAAAAAADEM/gm1ksXQnKZI/s400/IMG444_0394.jpg

https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-ILW8yM_ErXY/TjXqxWOPQCI/AAAAAAAACsA/_6mlrVsykpY/s400/_MG_6889.JPG

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-HpyaIMGlQk4/T0ug_G7LeqI/AAAAAAAADEU/j5xTkHrntus/s400/IMG_6150.JPG

The point is, there are alternatives that can curtail trying to just stay focused on "working out" all the time. Always staying active and just living that way, trying to involve yourself in various sports leagues or activities at least once to try and see what you like and taking opportunities to get outdoors and do something or see something new take it. You'll be fit from frequency of activity it's actually the most natural and easiest way to be "in shape" because by necessity your body has to keep up with what your doing. You can get burnout from thinking "I need to go workout". I have worked out before and actually been about 25lbs heavier in muscle mass but you know, it isn't entirely necessary to have a workout mindset be fit. Try something outside the box if your in a slump, find more things that u enjoy (such as basketball) that are physically demanding that way if there isn't any games going on you always have other options

:coleman:

Had micro fracture/acl/meniscus surgery, after two years felt pretty good, started dunking again and feeling good....4 years ago, during a fadeaway I came down, felt like someone punched me in my back, kept playing, when game was over, I drove home. When I got out of my car, my entire right leg went dead....L4 L5 lumbar laminectomy surgery. Doc cut through my back muscle, atrophy really bad on my hamstrings and calves, have nerve damage in left foot.......no more basketball for me, tried last year, but I would need to reinvent my whole game...was use to getting decent lift on my jumper, now its horrible...let's just say, I now stick to softball:roll:

So when i hit 33, i reached the pinnacle of my slobbiness. I was overweight, fat, depressed. I made a pledge to myself, i was gonna reverse that. My motivation was at an all-time low, but i gutted out a 2 and half month stretch where my diet was on point, i worked up to running 6 days a week, lifting 3-4 days, and some basketball in-between. Part of what got me going was past pain and failure. As a freshmen and sophmore in H.S., my scoliosis was at its peak. No one here would understand the type of pain I ws in.....It honestly was embarassing when we'd do ladders at the end of the tryout and my body and back had had it by that time...I would almost be crying running line to line and bending down. I was always the slowest one beause of my back...No one knew what it felt like, but it was HELLLLLL.

Learn from your past. I'm sure you know how much better your body feels when you're working out and being more healthy. I know I do..If I go back to my old ways then I'll be done and miserable.

Give me a brief description of your current schedule for what you do during the day. Also telll me some of your hobbies.

I would lift and condition... why you ask??

In those pics i'm 34 years old, 5'9", 165 pounds, benching 220 pounds, fast and could grab the rim with 2 hands...i don't think that's bad for an older guy who works hard for a living with multiple surgeries....:confusedshrug:
