View Full Version : That was a very classy, elegant speech by LBJ

Yes I am a fan of the Celtics. Nobody goes against LBJ more than I do. But sometimes we forget that just because players are on different teams or a hated rival, that does not mean they are bad people individually.

Lebron James won his MVP award today. The NBA Channel carried the presentation and his acceptance speech live. I just wanted to post with regard to what an OUTSTANDING speech he gave on behalf of himself, the Heat and the NBA. He is one class act. If I were a Heat fan, I could definitely see why it is so easy to be pulling for such a fantastic person.

The Miami Heat should consider themselves lucky to have such an outstanding talent and a great person represent their city and team on a nightly basis.

Looking at that makes me wonder if the people voting for MVP are any more knowledgeable than the average ISH poster.. I mean someone voted Lebron for 4th and 5th? That's straight up trolling.

I don't hate him like some of the irrational idiots out there, but it did seem very obvious that he was trying hard to repair his image. Bringing up the kids (with the bracelets), talking about his PR guy, bringing up the teammates, etc.

I won't criticize him for it or anything, but he did seem like he trying hard to fix a mistake. If it was all genuine though, then there's a lot of respect for that. Some of it did come off a lot as a PR attempt.

In a group of 100+ people, you're always going to have a couple dumb people or ignorant people. It's impossible to get 100% of a large group of people to agree on anything.

I get that but it's not like they're like us, discussing this shit with no influence whatsoever.. These are the people who actually vote man, they should be professional enough to recognize Lebron is clearly one of the top candidates. I mean.. If you argue the 'best player on team with best record' or 'coming up big in clutch moments, carrying your team' you can go with other players in first place I guess. But to say Lebron is the 5th most valuable player in the league this year is ridiculous regardless of how you look at the award.

GOBB
05-12-2012, 03:03 PM
Only 1 person voted Bron 4th and 5th. Is that really a terrible thing? It depends on that voters criteria. Maybe he felt guys like Tony Parker, Chris Paul, Durant were more valuable to their teams than Bron was to his (given he joined forces with Wade/Bosh). Maybe he figured Bron won the award already so to win it again the voter set the bar higher. We dont know the reasoning behind those 2 people who voted 4th/5th. But if you look at the candidates you could on your own come up with a valid argument to why (regardless if you disagree).

And being voted 5th in the NBA of what 400+ players? Uhhh I do believe they have Bron as one of the top candidates. You just dont agree with him being 5th. Whats the big deal?

 People always looking for something to critique about someone else..stop being so evaluative and just let people be themselves. Like everyone was watching the speech just to find a reason to say something bad about him..watching his mouth closely so that you hear every word.

Obviously(as you said) you aren't one of the haters, but this just seems like the mindset of people, annoys the hell out of me. Like who the **** are you to judge me.

I used to really dislike lebron and thought he was completedly concieted as i heard stories of his boistrous gangs and conflicts with coaching staff in particular at the 2008 games. However in recent years i have realized Lebron is just a human being, one extremely gifted human being that is making the best of what he has got just like everyone else is life. Just because he is loaded beyond belief doesn't automatically make himself into a super confident, well rounded, completedly motivated and driven Individual; especially not the temptations and pressure that can interrupt the focus of sportsman worldwide(people can say they are sworn role models and MUST do this or that, but at the end of the day they are HUMAN, they have impulses they have emotions and most likely they have desires to discover the world far beyond than just putting a ball in a hoop). Some players have this mentality from the get go but don't assume that just because someone is as physically gifted as they are, that they are also basketball genius's and matured too, everyone is different. People are getting upset at Lebron because he at times is like them, because he makes mistakes?. It seems to me Lebron in the last season in particular really knows how to put himself to great effect within the flow of the game whilst retaining all is versatile and dominant presence. I can see his confidence increase in every game especially with that outside jumper not to mention his 2nd half performances. I hyave never see him drop his bundle this season in terms of throwing tantrums he has just moved on and played hard. I can see it in his face and overall relationship with his team that he believes he is a cog, a very vital cog, but not the answer like he was in clevelend.

These guys are human, imagine the emotion they feel being in their position; Lebron in particular. Imagine the adrenaline, possible anxiety, expectations placed on him. It might be the reason why Jordan suceeded later in his career, it takes a while for your mind to catch up to your athletic ability, as you slowly find more efficient ways to utitlise your strengths. We know this is why Jordan was so effective, i have heard he epitomized 'economy of motion' in the sense he was fundamentally sound especially in footwork that allowed him to dupe defenders whilst expelling minimal energy.

Lebrons age should not be held against him at this point. Basketball is an art, it takes time to perfect an art in tune with your abilities and i really think Lebron is at that stage plus i highly doubt he will become useless like some people say when he gets older, his build is literally that of a thin/medium framed guy and thus he has complete control over his movements because of his weight to strength ratio therefore his confidence in his ability to contort and take contact far exceeds other guys his size who are just too big framed to have any near as much effect as lebron, or on the token they just arn't big and explosive enough to compete with him. Don't let his size fool you, his bow legs reduce the chance of sever knee injury he is pretty much indestructable. He is extremely light footed and agile to decline in anyway soon that people should be concerned about. His jumper is looking wet, he is taking less contested shots and putting trust in his teamates and its very clear now that there is no inner conflict between wade and lebron in terms of who is the main guy. They both want to win and i think its their time.

I was really baked writing this and it felt so good just typing it so i kept going.

Seems pretty accurate to me? I mean, Lebron is pretty much feeding out a speech for PR, repair his image etc. Finally listening to some good advice basically...Lebron is a great player and deserves the award, but he does not warrant the good guy award, based off one good speech. Reputation is hard to maintain and harder to repair. Guy is still the biggest douche in the league among others...

Read some of the Heat comments here responding to Bulls fans commenting. Show some class like your boy lebron did in his speech  :facepalm No need to rub in to Bulls fans that their star player is badly injured. I think Heat fans are relieved they didnt have to face a full strength bulls this year, and now they know they dont have to, are running their mouth off, but thats expected from a classless fan base that is the Heat fans.

Yes I am a fan of the Celtics. Nobody goes against LBJ more than I do.But sometimes we forget that just because players are on different teams or a hated rival, that does not mean they are bad people individually.

Good speech. He could've just made a brief thank you speech and nobody would've cared or given him criticism for it, but it's clear he put some thought and effort into it. Good for him.

I don't care how many good speeches he gives,

HE'S STILL A TOOL!

good speech by his PR team.

but they overdid it with a lot of parts. they were desperate to repair his image.

but nonetheless, giving this type of speech is better than him telling you, "yeah wassap. 3 MVP's. CHOSEN ONE. Recognize, mothafugga"

MLK: "The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy."

It is really easy for LeBron to sound a like a good guy while he is winning MVP.
