I was about to make the exact same thread, but instead posted in the LAL/OKC thread. :oldlol:

He's so full of sht.

Plus his team beat the Bulls in the SECOND ROUND, not the conference finals. They beat the Pacers for the conference championship

How could his team have been rusty if they jumped out to a 20 point lead in game ONE of the Finals (before choking it away)? :biggums:

Shaq should keep his mouth muted on things he clearly knows nothing about

They need to replace Shaq w/ Webber but also have Webber do play by play... I guess what I'm saying is that they need two Webbers.

17 days off when their ECF matchup with Indy went 7 games?

bdreason
05-14-2012, 09:52 PM
He must have been referencing the year the Lakers swept the playoffs. That's the only way they would have had a long break. Doubt it was 17 days though.

I think what he actually said was that they had 17 days off before they played the Bulls and that's why they lost to Houston in the finals.

No, he clearly said they had 17 days off after they beat the Bulls/before the finals started when in reality they only had a couple of days off.

He's forgetting they faced the Pacers in the ECF which can only mean Shaq has a bad case of amnesia. That entire Nick Anderson situation was probably traumatic for him so it has definitely impacted his memory a bit. :oldlol:

They weren't rusty either, not when you establish a huge lead early on in the game.

Shaq has a terrible recollection of his career. Thinks he won a ring the year Fisher hit the .4 shot (04) has mentioned it a few times recently.

unless shaq is completely disregarding that 1995 Pacer team. if shaq meant that then LOL. Shaq can be kinda witty at times but somehow i doubt this.

Or he has a poor recollection, as I have seen many great players forget how things went down years ago amongst 1000's of games, under the pressure of national tv.

Name one instance where a great player "mis-remembered" like Shaq allegedly has in this case.

If that was his intention, which seems too clever for Shaq, why would he then say they would practice 3 days then have 2 days off?

I'm 100% sure he said what I think he said. Kenny even asked him what they did in practice with all of those 17 days off. I can't believe Kenny bought the BS considering he played against Shaq in that Finals, guess his memory sucks ass too.

Then again, he could have just been making excuses for losing. Having no competition being one of the excuses and who else knows what he added to it that was improv.

I thought Indiana took Orlando to 7 games? If so, there is no way Shaq would have the nerve to say that playing Indiana was like having a bye week (or two bye weeks and three days for 17 days total to be exact lol) .

There is nothing to dissect.

He said they had 17 days off before playing the Rockets in the Finals. He said that the rust was the only reason they lost to Houston. He also said that they'd beaten Houston every game that season, whatever that means.

That's what he said. I just thought hew was lame for making more excuses. But apparently he lied too. And I doubt he just forgot about the Pacers. The home team won every game that series.

He's an idiot.

guy
05-14-2012, 11:32 PM
He exaggerates a lot. I remember when he was criticizing Howard this year he said a great big man should average 28 and 15, ignoring the fact that he never even averaged 15 rebounds a game. The other day he also said that great players should average 5-10 more ppg in the playoffs then in the RS which is really overboard and also something he never did.

I dont think it's that he lied so much as his memory is not very good. I remember a segment last week where he was talking about the "memorable moments" from role players during his three-peat, and he said "for my first title, Derek Fisher with the shot with .4 seconds; second title, Robert Horry with the 3 on the loose ball." Clearly, Fisher's famous .4 shot wasn't during the 3-peat, much less at the BEGINNING of it.

You're giving him too much slack. Yes, I understand that memories can be faulty for certain things... but a 17-day layoff? At least the other things you mentioned actually happened, even if the timing was off in what he said.

No one has a 17-game layoff during the playoffs. That was a clear exaggeration/lie on his part. He just made it up on the spot.

This. Everyone so quick to dump on Shaq before thinking about what he's saying. Dude is pretty likeable and he's one of the most dominant players ever. Although he can't speak well, he deserves to be on air...if you don't like him don't watch--pretty simple.

I don't think he ruins the show or anything, but he trips over his words and slurs too much. He sounds like an old fighter who's been clocked a few too many times.
