1.Kobe - was a Laker at 17 years old.....was a Laker for Half his life....Won 5 championships (T 1rst) as a NBA mega star..too many unbelievable games / scoring / clutch shots/combacks to list....Kobe Bryant is the greatest Laker ever

2.Magic - Made the lakers the premiere Team during the 80's . Rivalry against Bird/Celtics was the best era of basketball...won 5 Titles and help (w/ Bird) make Basketball hugely Popular during the 80's

3.Kareem - Stoic Big man who played his best seasons as a laker, Great scorer who could make great passes....won 5 Titles in L.A.

4.West - never watched him play , but the man was a warrior and is the NBA Logo

I went by their impact on the franchise...not necessarily who's better of them... or else sadly I'd probably rank Shaq second.

1. Magic - second greatest player of all time.
2. Kobe - entire career with LAL.
3. KAJ - 5 titles.
4. Shaq - 3 titles.
5. West - 9 finals appearances.

I find it funny that I put the second greatest Lakers as Kobe who I have below two of the players that are ahead of him on the all time list. But this thread is just what they did with LAL, so that is why.

Magic's number one and I don't see Kobe unseating him. I go back and forth with Kobe and Kareem at number 2. I give Kobe the edge because he has been Laker for his whole career. Shaq over West and Wilt because of the 3-peat. Mikan gets assed out because he never played in LA. Honorable mention to James Worthy and Elgin Baylor.

I do not understand why people rank Wilt as top 5 Laker ever. He only played 5 seasons as a Laker and 4 complete-season. He wasn't in his prime. He didn't score more than 6000 points for the Lakers. Aside from Magic, Kobe, Kareem, West and Shaq; Baylor and Worthy are greater then Wilt as Lakers.

Chamberlain may not be a top-5 Laker, but in his five seasons, he guided FOUR teams to the Finals. In his first year, he led a Laker team to a team record for most wins. In his 4th season, he led the Lakers to their STILL best ever record, and a dominating world title (their first ever in LA) in which he won the FMVP (while West had his worst post-season of his career.) He also won FOUR rebounding titles, THREE FG% titles (including the best season ever), and was voted first-team all-defense twice.

Not bad for his five year run in LA...

How could you not have Shaq ranked higher if all you went by was impact on the franchise?

He comes in for 8 years, they go to 4 Finals and win 3 titles.
He leaves and they are in the lottery.

You know what? In addition to West's brilliant play over the course of his career for the Lakers, he won them at least 5 more championships after his playing career ended. If it wasn't for West, the Lakers would never have acquired Shaq OR Kobe.

I'd say that that makes West the greatest Laker ever.

Magic and Shaq called Kobe the greatest Laker of all time.

/Thread.

except that Shaq has 3 "solid" dominant back-2-back-2-back FMVPs as LAL & Kobe dont

Shaq should've had 4 FMVPs had they not played Kobe ball in 2004 NBA Finals.

Shaq still well above Kobe as LAL
Magic still well above Shaq as LAL

Magic & Shaq getting paid millions by TNT to sell modern day garbage NBA to the kids.

They'll say anything to collect their hefty paycheck. specially Shaq who is so bad in front of camera.

It's scary how many all-time greats the Lakers have had.

I mean look, they have had

Guys up for GOAT consideration (KAJ, Wilt)
Another guy generally thought to be top 5 all time (Magic)
Guys often thought to be in the top 10 (Shaq, Kobe)
And then you have guys like West, Baylor, and Mikan who are all really high up there as well. Hell, some have West top 10, and Baylor has to be top 20.

Then you have "lesser" Hall of Famers like James Worthy, Gail Goodrich, Pau Gasol (future HOF'er), etc.

Only other team that has this kind of starpower all time is the Celtics I would imagine.

So what you're trying to say is that if they Shaq hadn't called Kobe the greatest Laker of all time, he'd somehow be in trouble with the TNT? :lol

And Magic? What does he have to lose? He doesn't even work for the media. :oldlol:

Magic is too humble to just come out and say: "I'm the greatest laker of all time." It's as simple as that when it comes to him and his remarks.

As a Laker? Yes. He might not be higher on the all-time list than Magic, Kareem, Shaq, Wilt, or Kobe, but based purely on his accomplishments as a Laker - even if you're only taking playing careers into consideration - West was a more notable Laker than everyone on that list but Kobe, Magic, and arguably Kareem.
