Terrible?

Just say that you didnt like it. Take Care seemed like trash to me when it was released, but after I while I realized that he did what thousands of artists can't do. He created an album with a cohesive sound and feel. The high and lows of the album feel completely natural and nothing sticks out in a bad way.

It still doesnt unseat comeback season, but it comes close.

Nobody liked it to a casual hip-hop fan because it wasn't hip hop or rap. It was 90% pop or R&B music. That 10% was probably the song that featured Kendrick in it and another i forgot. But i kinda liked Drake before Take Care. Comeback Season and So Far Gone are still his best pieces. And Thank Me Later had a few songs that i liked as well.

Meek Mill is getting to point where he's becoming the poster boy for what's wrong with hip hop. Dude has NO SUBSTANCE what so ever.

Also, it's funny how you say that Drake is not a rapper, but he bodied your boy on Amen.

Your argument is nonsensical. Drake is a million times more authentic than Meek. Yes, I am counting the faux gangster shit on headlines against him. That's how annoying Meek can be. Dude is not original in the least.

How many times is the dude going to rap about Maybach's,Audemar's and Rolex's? He's getting down right obnoxious with the name brand mentions. Ciroc this. This that and the third. Dude wont have be remembered by many in 10 years, at least Drake is in his own lane.

Are you kidding me? There hasn't been any mainstream rapper with substance in a long ass time. That shit's overrated.

What does Drake rap about in most of his verses? Women? Women breaking his heart? Almost the same thing. It's a double standard. All that emotional corny shit. They rap about their surroundings, and lifestyles. And unfortunately, Drake isn't about "that life". Like i said, Drake's a good artist. He just isn't a rapper to me anymore. There hasn't been a rapper with what? Maybe if all you listen to is MMG minus Wale you would think that.

A lot of rappers have some substance, I'm not saying that they are dropping joints like Blackstar or Public Enemy, but there is something substantial that you can take from their efforts and that comes in many forms like a story, social commentary, etc.

Drake raps about his mom on "Look What You've Done". Also, stop being an idiot, affairs of the heart are a huge part in everyone's life. Songs about perils/joys of love/women can be substantial. If they weren't then R&B wouldn't necessarily exist.

You can give me a list of 100 of the hottest rappers in the game right now and I can find you some tracks here and there that arent solely about materialistic bullshit while being insanely repetitive.

And Meek doesn't? Meek has as much substance in his music than any other mainstream artist. Lemme guess, you listen skimmed through to a bunch of his bullshit songs that pop up on the first page of YouTube. Go farther than that.

Drake raps about his mom on "Look What You've Done". Also, stop being an idiot, affairs of the heart are a huge part in everyone's life. Songs about perils/joys of love/women can be substantial. If they weren't then R&B wouldn't necessarily exist.
Exactly, thanks for getting to my point. That's what he's supposed to be labelled as. An R&B, pop artist. I didn't even call him a terrible rapper in the first place. Relax.

I can play that game too. Check out DC2 and take a look at "Use to Be". Raps about how hard his life before the wealth (his son, family, etc) while Drake raps about who he pretends to be. His whole fake gangster persona is another thing. At least Meek keeps it real on all of the stuff he puts out. Rags to riches story.

Anybody? Maybe J.Cole. That's about it.

It's clear you don't listen to rap. I'm done. Apparently J.cole is the only one who drops songs with substance these days so I can't say anything about meek mill. I don't know whether to laugh at you or pity you.

It's also clear that you haven't heard albums like Watch the Throne, TM103, Section.80, The Dreamer The Believer, etc.... I seriously don't know how someone could sit there and say some bogus ass bullshit like that. I know that we aren't in the golden age, but god damn.

RaininTwos
05-28-2012, 01:59 AM
the argument is dumb as hell because drake has the least substance of any of these guys. and just because it's not about his money and cars doesn't mean it's not empty. meek raps very well and makes good songs, isn't that more than enough? especially when you guys are always complaining about how guys are shitty rappers.

DC2 was a dud.

No replay value for me at all.

You even said that it was full of "meh" songs, but now you post this trash. Stop contradicting yourself. You can't be a eccentric blowhard one second and then try to be analytic the next. Pick one side "brie".

It's funny how Meek got "renegaded" multiple times on DC2 and you sit there and straight up lie...saying the dude is nice with his raps and makes good songs.

Kendrick and Drake, two of his contemporaries made him look amateurish on his f*cking shit. Wheredeydothatat?

It doesnt matter where you guys decide to turn this argument, it's an L either way.

Section 80 is probably one of my favorite albums ever actually. Too bad Kendrick isn't mainstream. But you're right about those other albums you listed.

To each his own, i shouldnt have argued about what you consider "rap" these days to begin with. Keep listening to Drake shit that just makes you want to sit in your room and cry in a corner. That shit aint rap. Period.

one mixtape makes you forget ima boss? house party? wtf brie? yea, dreamchasers 2 was weak, but that doesn't mean he isn't capable. this is his first year on top, and i'd assume all the great tracks went to the album, which comes out in august just a few months from now.

See that kind of rational thinking isn't what Fudge was doing. He basically wrote Drake off because of Take Care. So why shouldn't I write Meek off because of his features and the absolute shittiness from DC2? It's a f*cking mixtape for christ sakes, that's where one would expect to see more substantial music instead of a bunch of materialistic bs like "Racked up shorty". Meek's music sounds just like everyone elses and I am not the only one noticing it. He's played himself.

Just look at the label, who he's around and tell that you expect the subject matter or production level to be even better than this. He's just gonna have songs that are more polished but the same bs over and over again.

Dude is gonna flop unless that Self Made Vol.2 is a f*cking beast of an album and garners him some cross over appeal.

the only people who are buying a ross album are rap listeners. who don't buy music. everyone listens to kanye, and he still doesn't sell as well as he should.

MBDTF and WTT both sold around 500k first week. Not sure what you are expecting him to sell...... pretty sure Graduation was his highest first week sales and that was in the 700's. Even Eminem isn't selling that much more than that. So i am interested in what you expect him to sell.

It's just sad that Jeezy can come out of nowhere and sell 250k first week while Ross in 2010 after dropping an album in 08 and 09 cant sell that much.

RaininTwos
05-28-2012, 02:33 AM
cole doesn't make sense. but big sean has that kanye cosign so it makes sense.

i was only talking about quality of music, and i think ross knows how to make a good album so why shouldn't meek's be good?

Wale's ambition was trash to me. shit, I didnt even like Rich Forever or DC2, so why should I be confident that Meek(or even Ross's album for that matter) are going to be so good?

both of those should have been platinum first week, especially with the hype for both, and watch the throne especially. also wtt not leaking should have boosted those numbers.

In theory they should have sold more but when you have Lady Gaga resorting to selling her album for 99 cents and barely getting platinum in a week, you realize how grim sales are for everyone outside of Adele.

wale is just trash period, and was trash before joining ross's crew so you can't use that. rich forever was solid and same with dreamchasers 2 is that ross probably saved all the good shit for the album. he learned, because the last time he put mc hammer and bmf on the mixtape and those turned out to be two of the hottest songs of the year. at least that makes sense to me, and i would believe that.

LOL we agree on something. Wale is like nyquil.

Hmm....I keep forgetting about the albert anastacia ep.:facepalm

Good point, I hope he's keeping the rest to himself because after I heard those two tapes in their entirety, I was supremely disappointed.

So they are both dropping this summer right? I saw a youtube vid with a release date for God Forgives, I Don't for sometime in July. Just like his previous album.

Someone said Meek is dropping in August(was that you?) and the MMG album is dropping in June.

Who else is dropping in this summer?

I know Good MUSIC, DMX and Bow Wow are.

Offended at the lack of Outkast in this thread. IMO, they're the best rap group ever. Some people aren't too fond of Stankonia (which I did enjoy, in spite of some filler) or Speakerboxx/The Love Below (which I actually liked a lot), but their work from the 90's is terrific.

Lol, Big L better than Lupe. Post mortem **** sucking this is.

And Ketchup called another poster's list gay while he has Danny Brown, Drake, and "Pretty Mother****er" ASAP rocky on his list.

not really.

Before i got into Big L, I remember people saying he was better than Big Pun and Biggie.

I heard Lifestyle of the poor and Dangerous and was disappointed. Not because of the album was bad or anything like that because it was a great album but Big L to me is not near Big Pun and Biggie in any level.

Big L has punchlines and delivery over Lupe Fiasco and that it.
