this is the angle i see it at. It doesnt happen that often as one of the couples doesnt live close so we only get together a couple/few times a year. I go out with one of the couples a lot and I only pay my end (1/3). But when us 5 get together its usually at a nicer spot and the bill gets split in 3 ways. I disagree. As a friend there is no way I'd have one of my boys paying for my girl. If she isn't paying I'd cover hers. Being my friend is going solo and we three are paying for five, the solo friend pays for his meal while I and the other guy will chip in to cover our girls. But the context of the situation is pretty obvious, since he made a thread about it. Obviously, it's a problem for him for whatever reason. If his friends picked up a bill or helped him with other things, I don't see him creating a thread asking us what we think.

Which is why I went the "cheap" route. What you're saying is correct, generousity goes a long way but you have to be generous to the right people too. And the situations you're describing is not really relevent on a basketball forum consisting of teeneagers and students (mostly), of course most of us are not wealthy. If he had mentioned these things the responses would have been vastly different. The fact of the matter is, though, that he did not mention those. He only stated that he goes out to dinner with his friends and there girls and he ends up paying for 1/3rd of the bill. Given that context, and the fact that clearly he is upset over it, I don't see how one could not agree that he should speak up about it with his friends as it does look like they are taking advantage of his good nature, whether intentionally or not. At the very least he should speak up to his friends or when the next one comes ask for separate bills up front.
