A festering beef between R&B singer Chris Brown and rapper Drake over their gorgeous ex-girlfriend exploded Thursday into a bloody, bottle-throwing melee inside a packed Manhattan club.

Drake, accompanied by a menacing 15-member entourage, incited the predawn brawl by rejecting Brown’s peace offering — a $2,000 bottle of Ace of Spades champagne — and sending back an incendiary note, police sources said.

“I’m still f------ Rihanna,” it read.

Drake flashed his middle finger, engaged in serious trash talk, and drafted several other rappers to join his posse ... minutes before the all out brawl with Chris Brown, according to multiple witnesses in the club.

We're told the tension started building when Drake gave the middle finger to one of Chris' bodyguards and shouted ... "I'm about to go whoop that ass!" Chris' entourage then returned fire with a few hand gestures of their own.

Witnesses -- who were very close to the action -- tell us that Drake felt disrespected ... even though he started the exchange ... and went to get backup from his boys Meek Mills, Juelz Santana, and Trav B.

At this point, we're told Drake got loud and shouted at Chris ... "You be on that ho s**t on Twitter n***a" -- a clear reference to a recent Twitter war between Chris, Drake, and Meek ... all over who's banging Rihanna.

Moments later we're told Chris' security guards got irate, pushing and shoving began between Meek, Juelz and Chris' posse -- and you know the rest.

Interestingly, everyone agrees Drake never got physically involved in the brawl -- even though his mouth ... and hand ... sparked it all.

I've never really understood predetermining how tough somebody is or if somebody could "knock him on his ass". Drake could very well be a bitch but it's not like we'll ever know. You don't know if he could knock you out or vise versa until you guy's actually went at it. Even people who act like the biggest pansies on the planet could still end up throwing them if forced too.

Remember being outside a Tim Hortons and seeing a groups of kids trying to get one buddy outside to fight their friend. Guy was inside practically in tears trying to avoid a scuffle at all costs.
