View Full Version : If Durant had Guarded Lebron the Majority of the Time, OKC Wins the 2012 Finals

Instead of 6'9 235 Durant who naturally plays the SF position, 6'3 215 undersized SG Harden and at times a 6'7 215 SG Sefolosha took the duty of guarding James.
Let's not forget that Sefolosha got raped hard. So much for being an elite defensive player. Even a 6'4 Tony Allen would've done a better job on Lebron. Lebron just shit on Thabo. Guy doesn't know the meaning of putting a hand up to challenge when the guy takes a shot.
We all saw the problems that Durant gave Lebron defensively. If Durant had guarded lebron the majority of the time, OKC would be looking at their first championship and Durant possibly his first finals mvp. Too bad, Durant didn't step up and demand that assignment though. I guess he didn't see the 2011 finals when Marion and Stevenson literally reduced Lebron to being a role player on the offensive end. :confusedshrug:

Only thing I saw is Lebron Could take Durant off the Dribble anytime he wanted and get to the basket.. Not sure what You were watching :confusedshrug: At least Seph made Lebron have to work n the Post as Lebron could not just Drive by him all the time.
Nonsense.
Durant got worked by James as soon as LeBron started cutting through the lane to establish low block position and/or driving hard to the hoop. Durant ended up with a slew of reaching fouls because of his inability or unwillingness to get his body in front of James and hold his ground.
I rooted for OKC but face it. They won Game 1 because Miami was spent after a very physical and emotional series vs Boston while the Thunder were well rested. The Heat were simply better and far more poised than a young OKC team. They just weren't ready for the moment.
Well, had the refs not gotten him in foul trouble almost every game, yeah, he woulda, shoulda, coulda.
Continually reaching long, skinny arms in when guys were blowing by him is what got him in foul trouble. Leaving his feet while guarding a 6'4" jump shooter didn't help either.

Refs won't allow it. And before someone says Lebron would have fouled out durant. You have to understand only 2 of durants Fouls in the series in the half court came from Lebron.
Only two.
and you are right. Sefo doesn't contest for shit. He rarely ever contests a shot.
And he is mad slow. The only reason Kobe had a tough time in their series is bcause when kobe beat him which he did 10/10 of the time. When he goes up for a shot. He like to hang. Instead of going up and releasing immediately.
He goes up and hangs for 2 seconds. This is bad news when you are facing iblocka and a team full of shot blockers. Cause you give them time to come over send your shit flying or alter it badly.
If Kobe adjusted his game to a quick release when he's at the rim, his domination of sefo would be even more apparent.
plus brooks then had harden on Lebron. It was laughable. This guy can't coach.

The Heat were a bad match-up for the Thunder and were simply outcoached. To overcome the Heat defense you need great passing and low turnovers, usually the traits of a veteran ballclub with a pass-first PG like Boston or Dallas. And you need a zone defense. Even the best and smartest defenders like Marion, Stevenson or Kidd couldn

No, my man. (Thunder are actually my 2nd favorite team it that matters) I watched every game. Durant didn't have the girth and strength to keep Lebron from driving to the bucket. A couple times his length was able to make Lebron take jumpers, but that was about the best he could do. Most of the time when KD did guard Lebron, he was forced to foul (causing the foul trouble we saw in a few of the games). If you actually watched the games closely you would have seen Thabo was more effective on Lebron.

As far as you source is concerned, 5 possessions in one gm dont tell the story of the whole 5 games.

5 possesions not in one game but in one quarter. The 4th quarter. Where durant guarded Lebron for the majority. He was the one who lead to Lebron's turnover and him faking an injury.
Till that point, 8 mins had passed and lebron had zero field goals cause durant was locking him up. His first Field Goal came on a fake injury cherry pick. And then his second came when Sefo was switched onto him first times of the 4th quarter and what did he do?
ridicoulously back off a guy whose supposedly can't walk. lmao.
You think lebron would have gotten off a 3 on Durant?
Heck no. OKC would have won that game 4 easily if dumbass brooks didn't switch sefo onto lebron when he was playing injured for no gosh damn reason.
Stick to what works dumbass.
Anyway you say lebron didn't take much jumpers. I tell you that 75% of his jump shots came with durant on him. That means he settled for jumpers more with durant on him than anyone else. That says alot when you bring up the fact that durant only guarded him for about 35% of the series. And yet he took more jumpers when guarded by durant than when guarded by harden and sefo combined... and yet could only make only ONE!
Why? because with harden and sefo, Lebron can easily get into the post and abuse them. With durant he couldn't. Nor could he shoot over him because of his length.

This wasn't about Durant, Harden, or Sefolosha. It was all on Scott Brooks. The title of this thread should be, if they had _____ Coach, OKC wins the 2012 Finals.
Brooks had absolutely no idea how to stop Lebron. He didn't even put up a good effort. Dude left Harden, someone half Lebron's size, to guard him one on one multiple times. With Brooks coaching defense like that, OKC had no chance.
As for whether Durant can guard Lebron, he seems to be able to do it well if Lebron starts in a half court offense. He can at least stick his long arms up there to contest. However, if it is Lebron bulldozing in from half-court, Durant had no chance. In fact, he got a lot of his fouls that way.

dude, durant is a great offensive player. you cannot stick your best offensive player on someone that might wear him out on defense for long stretches. its why the jordans, the kobes, even lebron this year needed their perimeter defensive players to do their dirty work. pippen, ron harper, rick fox, bruce bowen, battiers, all did their jobs as great defensive players that would do the dirty work so that the teams best offensive players would not wear out on defense.
they needed durant on offense, especially since he is 1 of only 3 players on that team that can score. it amazed me how westbrook played wade and still had the energy on offense to do what he was doing. plus durant had some silly touch fouls, which he could have avoided. i dont agree with most that he is a horrible defender. i think he could do a decent job on lebron, but lebron was driving at will on him so often and got so many lame AND1s on him. like wtf, barely touch fouls and lebron was getting superstar calls on another superstar. nba was thirsty for lebron winning it this year, they set aside different rules from last year's finals.

Cool Story.
But unlike your story there i quoted. It has no barring on the facts. Durant shut down Lebron period and he didn't need a constant double team like harden or sefo.
Lebron rarely posted up durant for that reason.
He was forced into jump shots which he missed all but one.
And no lebron was not driving at will. He had only one drive on him in the half court. And the other on fastbreak/semi faskbreak. The same drives he had on harden/sefo.
Anyway, other than that. The rest of the other shit you said were right.

what okcs mistakes were double teaming or fouling when he was penetrating, that bailed him out, because i believe half his shots if not most wouldnt have went in if he drove it in the lane, and then he would get discouraged to drive and take jumpshots and that is really his weakness.

Zone= Miami's kryptonite. It worked so well for Dallas last year. Maybe OKC should've took notes. However, Miami was shooting lights out from 3, so maybe zone wouldn't have been as effective. Scott Brooks did make some idiotic moves, but he couldn't control Harden, Thabo, etc playing like shit.

Brainwashed? Noyt likely. Durant and OKC fan all the way in this series.
You're comparing block/charge calls...a snap judgment call that can often go either way in real time...to blatant, easy to call, reaching fouls.
Durant just isn't a complete defender. Better than he used to be, but not there yet. Certainly not at the level where he can handle a motivated James.

Figures lie and liars figure. Cutting to the post to gain position...which he did in Games 2-5...is a lot different than the attempts to set up in the post and overpower Durant that they tried in parts of Game 1.
Miami's stars shot like crap from the perimeter throughout. No surprise his #s aren't good.
If you'll get to the point where you actually understand what's happening on the floor, instead of searching through inane metrics until you find some sample that supports your theory, the game will look entirely different to you.
Best of luck!

I was pulling hard for Indiana, then Boston, then OKC to knock Miami off(not NY cause Knicks are a garbage franchise with stupid fans), but if the reward is seeing stupid moron Kobe idiots have mental breakdowns, then I hope Miami wins the next 10 titles with Lebron getting Finals MVP in each and every one of them.
Seriously, this is awesome. Kobe trolls are so mad right now. Bladers getting owned so hard in this thread. I think he and Ballsout are the same person since that's the only poster agreeing with his bullsh*t. If Durant would've checked Lebron regularly, he'd have gotten dominated. This isn't Kobe who Durant locked up with ease.

Durant playing 20mpg would have benefited KD?

I wish KD guarded Lebron more so lebron could have averaged 35ppg in the finals .

Durant just isn't a complete defender. Better than he used to be, but not there yet. Certainly not at the level where he can handle a motivated James.
which is why lebron averaged less points and less percentage when guarded by durant than any other OKC players? this is with single coverage aswell. While thabo and harden got help constantly in the post.
Durant was in an island with james and contained him.
Can't you see the facts right in front of your eyes? Ahhh....your emotional state towards james won't allow you. Gotcha.

LeBron barely made any jumpshots when guarded by Durant, every time LeBron took a jumpshot when guarded by Durant he missed. Heat are the champions but let's not revise history so early.

I actually think it would have made a huge difference, especially after game one, because there's no doubt LeBron saw how well Durant was playing and probably would have been intimidated by it. Unfortunately, the officials actually call fouls on Durant. :lol

You wanna know how great of a defender Durant is? Game 4, he guarded Mario Chalmers, who had the game of his life. Game 5, he guarded Mike Miller, who had the game of his life.

Pretty sure Mike Miller had a 45 (IIRC) point game with the Grizzlies. Chalmers has had better games this season alone then he did in game 4, although that was one of his best games. My personal favorite would be his epic triple overtime performance against the Hawks with Bosh but no LBJ or Wade:pimp:

When I said "game of their life" I factored in the importance that they were Finals games.
it would be like ... Camby guarding Shaq :lol

sometimes i wonder if Bladers actually believe what he's posting. some of the things he says are so idiotic it's hard to believe someone can be that stupid.
but well, here we have a guy who continually predicted Miami to lose from round 1 to the ECF, then threw in the towel in the Finals, hoping to jinx the Heat coz he thinks he's the new Konex :facepalm
this guy made a thread offering to leave if the Heat lose in a series (i can't remember which. must be the Bulls), but is still here after having lost that bet.

In a tiny little sample that serves as no proof of anything.
About as anti-LeBron as you'll find. It's you who can't see the game objectively. No surprise; I've seen some of your previous posts.

Wow bladers-dunksby-ballsout.Come man chill out.You are talking like lebron made any jumpshots during finals. He completely lost his jumper after game 6 in boston.
I really wonder did lebron do something to you that you hate him with this kind of passion. Its really amazing. You probably didnt even meet the guy and you can hate him this much.

Lebron literally wiped his ass with Durant. He might have averaged 45ppg if they kept KD on him

Is this the same Bladers that completely ignored all the stats that showed how badly LeBron made Melo look in the first round when he guarded him, pointing to team defense, and the role of other players, instead of what LeBron did individually?
