What's the latest trend in builds?

Maniak
06-28-2012, 01:47 AM
From what I've been seeing in high level play...

TvZ has changed the most recently due to the queen change that has rendered hellion openings less than effective. Terrans are afraid to move them up as zergs have begun doing builds opening with 4-6 queens, optimizing creep spread. This has repopularized 1/1/1 banshee a bit. This match up has become cheesier on the terran end.

PvZ is the biggest matchup right now due to these races being the strongest...it generally comes down to lategame compositions where the zerg has mostly air based units (corruptors/brood lords) and a nice number of infestors. the protoss will have a deathball of collosi, archon, stalker, sometime a bit of sentry, some times a bit of zealot, high templar, and mothership. it often comes down to the mothership's vortex on the zerg air units to deal massive splash damage using high templars and archons. zergs are making good use of the neural parasite ability, taking away the protoss' collosi and mothership during engagements to give them an edge in battle.

TvP I haven't seen much of but generally the terran is going mass m/m/m with vikings while the protoss will go deathball generally without archons until a bit later in the game. the terran will add on ghosts eventually.

mirror match-ups i don't know that much. ZvZ has become less ling/bling/roach and more towards later game play. PvP is also a bit more late game and is quite mechanical. TvT I haven't watched barely any lately but is still most of the same marine/tank/medivac battles....

Something popular for zerg is a style most recently popularized by Symbol and Dimaga. Using overlord drops with lots of ling/bling and harass all over the map. This is generally a vP build, and it's a very swarmy style that leads to extremely exciting play.

Maniak

In TvP I've noticed a bit of the terran going 1 rax expand into 2 gas 3 rax and then pressure with a stim timing push.

Also a fair bit of un-upgraded pure marine pressure just to try to contain the protoss.

I noticed this a lot on the streams lately. If I were a zerg I think I'd be doing it too. Looks really cool and stops all early aggression except for....

One of my favorite builds, the one that got me started. The 1/1/1 except I go 1/1/2. I like harassing people and even winning with the 4 banshee pressure (w/cloak)

F*ck calling it cheese. If I don't build a barracks and a bunker in your base it's not cheese (cannons for toss). If I deny you scouting and you don't see my early double gas and dual starports. That's on you not on me (obviously not you Maniak but anyone who would cry about it being cheese). Get out a scan or overlord or observer and find out.

Again, scouting is the key. I've started even using scans if I get denied good scouting. Just played a match scanned toss (I went 2 gas 3 rax) and saw he had 6 lots and 4 stalkers. I had combat shield and concussive shell, and knew my force could take his. I was right. I had planned on waiting a bit longer but once I saw I had to the advantage I had to move out or give him a chance to get a stronger force.

I went to bed right after Sculp's first game. I was very tired.

TSL is more of TDL (Team Drone Life). Their zerg line up is superb. I joked that Sculp beat his first opponent with 5 units. SCV, MULE, Marine, Tank, Medivac (which he did).

Sculp is quite the up and comer, and I think he might be the next big terran. It seems to me that NSH has put a lot of faith in him and is sending him out in good positions in all of their team league games.

Nice to see TSL win, that's who I had predicted.

Starcraft is pretty much a sport itself... so. And you are dead wrong anyways, lots of these pro sc players are more athletic than average people. If you wanna poerform well at big events good stamina is needed, most pros goes to the gym for this reason.

Anyways it's like picking on basketball players for being dumb, some of them are and some are not.

Congratulations to WW.Ziktomini for defeating EG.Demuslim 2-1 in the WCS UK Nationals Finals.

He earned $6,000 and a paid trip to the 2012 Battle.net European Championships.

Demuslim earned $3,000 and a paid trip to the Euro championships.

The third player who earned a paid trip also went away with $1,350. That player was Infused.JonnyREcco.

I heard a rumor that JonnyREcco is going to sign with Team Dignitas, which makes sense because they lack zergs and for one of the biggest teams in e-sports, their SC2 line-up has lacked results as of late.

Maniak

Speaking of Team Dignitas, during the Chilean National Finals d.Killer defeated NrG.Darkness 2-0. xLs.Cruza will be joining Killer and Darkness with a paid trip to the 2012 Battle.net South American Championship.

Killer never dropped a map in the whole tournament, 2-0'ing all of his opponents.

The Chinese National finals began today. I do not know of a stream for this, but I think the top 3 favorites to take this are TooDming, Loner, and MacSed.

The France National Finals are this Thursday through Sunday. The obvious favorite is Mill.Stephano, however there are 8 other zergs in this tournament and it's safe to say Stephano's ZvZ is not his best matchup. I still don't think he'll be defeated.

I'll continue to update the WCS tournaments, as during the month of July I believe all of the smaller nationals will be done.

I think the Sweden Nationals will be a great event. Bischu, Naniwa, Sjow, Thorzain, and even LaLush (#1 in points for the TSL 4 qualifier) will be there, among others.

For premier tournaments, HomeStory Cup V will be taking place this Thursday through Sunday. This is must-watch SC2 action. HSC has been known for being one of the most entertaining tournaments in the scene. Liquipedia Link (http://wiki.teamliquid.net/starcraft2/HomeStory_Cup/5)

Oh, I almost forgot to include the latest information on the 2012 OGN Starleague Season 1. This will be the first season that the OGN Starleague is starcraft 2. This tournament will probably be one of the best of the whole year.

OGN decided to seed in 4 players. Those 4 players are 4 of the most accomplished Starcraft 2 players in the world. SK.MC, MVP.DongRaeGu, LG-IM.Nestea, and LG-IM.MVP all received direct seeding.

Some qualifiers occurred either today or yesterday and here is an image of all the qualified players so far.

http://gyazo.com/3070610c361e64ec76eed50633ed6224.png

There will be separate qualifiers for the KESPA players (like Flash and Jaedong).

The first column is Protoss, second is Terran, and third is Zerg.

It's not surprising for me to see Zerg dominance at these qualifiers.

Homestory Cup V has begun. Day 1 is over. This tournament is beyond entertaining to watch because the players are all relaxed and having a good time. Although the hours are not ideal for non-Germans/europeans, it's still worth tuning in when you can.

Link for brackets and everything. If you scroll down you can find the link to the two streams, that both are being broadcast in 720p for free. (http://wiki.teamliquid.net/starcraft2/HomeStory_Cup/5)

Groups A through D were played out.

Group A Nerchio and Naama advanced. I personally thought it would be Nerchio and Socke, but Socke struggled at the event.

Group B Idra and Bling advanced. Idra dominated his opponents going 3-0 with a 6-1 overall map score. The Grack Is Back! Bling didn't know he advanced because he actually lost the set to Cloud but he had a better map score so he still moved on (this is why tournaments need to adopt the GSL format in 4 man groups)

Group C Happy and Ret advanced. Incontrol went 1-6 and ReaL displayed some really weird strategies against Ret.

Group D SaSe and Dimaga moved on. These are 2 guys who could very well take the whole tournament and I was not too surprised to see them be the two advancing.

Groups E-H will be played out tomorrow.

Also this weekend is the WCS France Nationals being played out. I'll give updates on that after the event but won't be watching any of it (maybe the finals).

Maniak
07-05-2012, 07:29 PM
Group E I think MC and HasuObs will move on. However I think TLO could very well replace Hasuobs there.

Group F I think we will see MaNa and Sleep move on. Mana recently won Dreamhack and a qualifier for the TSL4 and Sleep has been playing great since joining xSix and getting to go to tournaments all over the world. His ZvZ is quite strong so I think that will play advantage in a group with 2 other zergs and 1 protoss.

Group G I think we will see Sheth and YongHwa move on. YongHwa is a relatively unknown player but he's Korean so he'll probably do extremely well. slivko might make it past instead of sheth...

Group H I believe we will see MVP and Golden move on.

Because this is a four day tournament I believe the day after these groups we will see Group stage number two and then the final day will be the Top 8 being played out in a bracket. quarterfinals is bo5 and semis are bo5. finals are b07 and there is a third place match apparently.

Maniak

Day 2 of Homestory Cup V has ended.

Group E MC and Hasuobs advanced
Group F Sleep and Snute advanced
Group G YongHwa and slivko advanced
Group H MVP and Golden advanced

6 out of 8 on my predictions.

The next group stage has been set.

Group A:
idrA
Happy
Sleep
Hasuobs

Group B:
YongHwa
Nerchio
Bling
Snute

Group C:
Sase
MC
Slivko
Dimaga

Group D:
Golden
MVP
Ret
Naama

These are all really strong groups that will be hard to predict.

Group A I think it'll be idrA and Sleep, however I wouldn't be surprised with either Happy or Hasu advancing. Hasu hasn't been playing as well at this tournament so far as I thought he might, though.

Group B I think YongHwa and Nerchio will advanced. I don't think Bling will be able to make it out giving his lackluster performance as of late and Snute may be able to make it past...

Group C I think Sase and MC will advance although I really think Dimaga may advance over Sase.

Group D I think it'll be Golden and MVP advancing. You never know with Ret, and he performed quite well in the first group stage so I think he can take games off of any of the players in his group. Especially because Zerg has been playing very well against terran.

I don't watch GSL because I don't want to alter my sleep schedule to get rest before watching or just stay up. It generally doesn't start until 1 or 2 am here and I like to be in bed before that.

I was surprised naniwa took it to game 5. i don't like him at all but he's quite good. DRG is my second favorite korean behind MMA so it's nice to see him be the best in the world right now.

Byun beating nestea 3-0 was surprising. Still good to see this guy dominating again after the Match Fixing Scandal.

I love the way the bracket is. Byun (T) is facing Seed (P). These are the two more up and coming unknown players. Then below that DRG (Z) is facing MC (P). These are the two established previous GSL champions.

This assures the finals will be like last season with an up and comer against an established big name player. I think I'll be staying up for the finals, especially because they're scheduling them and the GSTL finals around the same date(s) on a beach in South Korea.

I hope that Byun beats Seed and DRG beats MC, and then DRG goes on to win his second GSL championship.

Both Seed and Byun have been dominating since RO32 so those games will surely be good.

jaydacris

byun vs nestea on metropolis was an interesting game to say the least

gsl was using a version of the map without a neutral supply depot at the ramp, and byun used a double bunker contain for the easy win. although nestea scouted the proxy rax, i dont think he was aware of the lack of a depot (most players prly just assume without even ever looking)
but overall, byun just outplayed nestea.

IM.Dreamertt (defeated FXO.TheBest in the finals)
Startale.Curious (defeated FXO.Tree in the finals)
Slayers.CoCa (defeated sOs, a kespa player in the finals)
Prime.Creator (defeated ST.Pet in the finals)
IM.Happy (defeated SK.TheBeSt, a KESPA player, in the finals)

So that means there are 2 P, 3 T, and 3 Z qualified.

Another 8 players will qualify today, playing groups I through P.

Now these players and some seeded GOM players (top in the point rankings) and some invited KeSPA players will fight to get at least top 10 in the SK Nationals. They will then go on to the Asian nationals, where 1 player from singapore, 10 players from china, and 9 players from taiwan will meet them in a battle to see who advances to the world championship (I explained it terribly, but it's not overly confusing)

Although some of them have been practicing full-time because their teams never use them in Proleague...

Also, MMA advancing 2-1 over viOLet makes me so happy. He's still kicking ass, despite all the issues around him.

I heard the reason he got demoted to Slayers B team was that he had stopped practicing as much as everyone else, but I do not know about that. I hope he stays with Slayers as they are my favorite team.

Congratulations to EG's newest member, Suppy. I knew EG needed another zerg as Machine and LZGamer are both not that great, and idrA is still working on getting back to the top. Suppy has tons of potential and I think will fit in nicely. In my eyes he is an upgrade from Machine and LZGamer. His only downside is he is in university right now. I personally think they should pursue a member from oGs that is still available like TOP or SuperNova.

Well, GSL champion.

Grats to Seed. I did not stay up for the games and I heard they were pretty bad.

I don't think I'm going to watch the GSTL either, seeing as how late it is.

Although because I love slayers so much i might just not go on teamliquid or /r/starcraft and find a watch to watch vods.

Well they WERE PvP - I saw some of them, and they weren't that bad for PvPs - it's a lot of down voting based on MC fanboys being upset over him losing.

Well, GSL is really the only title that matters. DreamHack, TSL, MLG and IPL and stuff like that are prestigious but there's no doubt that GSL is the cream of the crop.

Of course, not denying that at all. But for all the MLGs a guy like MKP may win, the expectation for him is winning the best title in the GSL.

NaNiWa gets released from Quantic, lets have a guess everyone what team he joins. I'd prefer that you picked only 1 team.

My pick is Startale, yes Startale. Wouldn't that be awesome ? He's quite close with players from it and his main focus is GSL.

Hope it's not EG... I like Monster energy and Steelseries products tho, won't lie :D

Maniak
07-31-2012, 06:31 PM
He said he wouldn't join startale.

He left due to some financial reasons as far as I understand (not being able to properly get to events from Quantic), and he has had a falling out with SaSe.

He's either going to go the personal sponsorship route of elfi, white-ra, and Grubby (conveniently all toss players as well) or join Millenium.

Mill makes sense because they are partnered with TSL so naniwa could remain in a korean house. I would say Fnatic but as far as I understand he got kicked off of Fnatic during WC3.

Maaybe maaaybe maaaaaaaybe back to Dignitas, but they don't have korean housing options so I doubt it.

Assembly starts in just 2 days. I predict that either Hero, Taeja, or MC will win it.

Tonight Slayers and Team Liquid are playing to find out who will face LG-IM at the last IPL TAC event ever (they are changing to a new team format that will be divided into divisions and ultimately much better).

Thorzain just said on Live on Three that Ryung left the Slayers house as well but is still on the A-team for slayers. I don't know if that was common knowledge or not.

Slayers had just gotten a new house and it's much nicer than their old ones, so I don't think it has anything to do with the house itself.

There's obviously some inner drama going on with Slayers. Nevertheless still 2nd in GSTL and up 2-1 right now over Team Liquid.

Think I'll be playing as Zerg for the qualifiers, or at least the first one. I randomly decided to go Z and won 3 straight games. I actually feel like laddering a bit now. Placed in bronze tho :( The games are really low level because all the guys sucked and made big mistakes, but I wanna share them anyways

First Game is a ZvP Ohana LE. This guy was kinda bad and I could tell as soon as I initially scouted and saw gateway/forge. I go 15/15 pool first with a ling/bling mini bust cause i wanted a quick win. I would have won earlier I think but I messed up my control a bit and had lings in 2 different spots of the map and didn't notice minimap. cannon walls are effective against only ling. I lost 6 drones to VR at the 3rd which wasn't too too bad but think i coulda done that better. also, 2 baneling nests = lol. i almost did that again, for some reason I hit B when I want to make roaches.

Second game is ZvT Ohana LE. I really like Ohana as Z minus the rocks between 2nd and 3rd (didn't destroy either game, lols). I instantly saw his 2 rax and knew I should hold. Hiding the lings behind his natural's main was so ****ing smart, I'm wonderfully magnificent. I held badly. I should have thrown up that spine when he killed my ling at the xel naga and then rallied back my ling/roach. i also accidently made some lings when i meant to make roaches. nonetheless I dronepulled and killed his army cause he didn't micro at all, and I countered perfectly meanwhile (he left his depot down which I was counting on). i thought i could win once his push was dead and all my lings were alive in his base but he gg'd anyways.

Third game is ZvP Shakuras. I vetoed this map because I don't like it but for some reason still got it by chance. I opened 10 pool but he went ffe so that was negated. i made a big mistake by trying to do anything and i should have just run the lings back. i then decided to just do a roach max style, which went well because i've done it a few times before and last i practiced i got max around 13 mins which isn't too bad considering im "technically bronze" i saw the zealot/vr/stalker and instantly decided to throw up spores and just basetrade. i shoulda put spores in my main as it would have saved me 10 minutes, but whatever. i obviously destroy his base with my roaches and the game is over and he has nothing left. he hangs in with vr's and because i'm not great with infestors the game lasts a long time. i shoulda checked the base he was in, don't know why I assumed he wouldn't be able to get there. it would have been a more interesting game if he just went for base trade rather than only taking out my 3rd. i think he would have been well off because he had a warp prism out and could get to those behind rock bases. oh well, good for me.

what don't you like about zvp?

then again, seeing as i'm playing against bad players i just roach max and a move :D

the last game I played the guy did a 2 gate 1 robo pressure (if he did 3gate 1 robo he would have won, i barely held). then he did a stalker/immortal push that did nothing, then he did a colo/immo/zealot push that did ok but i was on 3 base 80 drones so all it did is free up space to add on corruptor. i went to push his base with roach/festor and all he had was like 6 void rays that i fungal-ed then dropped ITs. I won by killing all buildings.

EPM/APM that game was like 78/102. His was 18/27 hehe. He is 45th in his silver division.

Still have only lost in ZvZ. I'm 10-3 overall. ZvP so gosu, just beat a gold protoss who had some great stalker/immo pushes but i had upgraded roaches with solid macro. the funny thing was i had like 7 festors made but i just held them back in all engagements cockily because i knew i could win with mass roach.

ZvZ is the most volatile match up ever, any mis micro will cost you the game. Everytime i play zvz i just go defensive and wait for the massive speedlings + blings to come.

I also hate zvp, as of late ive lost basically every match to p. The reason? Immortal sentry push. Completely shuts down the stephano style of max roach push. No amount of lings you make will stop that push there are simply too many sentries, and immortal destroy roaches gg.

Maniak
08-06-2012, 12:03 PM
yeah immortal/sentry is really strong. luckily i havent faced anyone who executes it well.

i think a wonderful build for toss is 4 sentry drop with zealot warp in to the main then force fielding the ramp. its more effective versus terran than zerg though i think.

I like with zerg on a map like cloud kingdom or daybreak you can always see when they push with good overlord positioning.

Ok about PvZ. Zerg can do the same every game and win, as long as protoss doesn't surprise zerg it's nearly impossible to win, while protoss has many strong 2 base all-ins if zerg knows what's coming it's not hard to deal with most of them. You either gotta do unexpected 2 base all-in as protoss and hope zerg doesn't scout it or hope zerg ****s up hard in late game (it may be not enough tho). That matchup is stupid, in late game as toss u rely on mothership archon, if zerg clumps up his broods u can win, if not u can't (let alone the fact that broods usually comes way earlier than u can have mothership, not even talkign about vortex). As NaNiWa said, as protoss u need to have as much as possible different builds, if u can't surprise zerg u can't win, while zerg can do the same every game and win, that's why MC has the best PvZ he has every build that exists in his mind.
TBH all the matchups currently has quite huge problems, before queen range TvZ was awesome, but blizz had to break it. Mirrors slowly getting better and better however, but they are still bad. TvT may be the best matchup currently, but can u even call it a good matchup ?
Statistically game is quite balanced, but when you actually watch the games you see that game is in quite terrible shape.

Ohh IEM next week, that's awesome, gotta check brackets n shit. Btw Maniak what league are you actually in ?

I think you're exaggerating here not impossible but definitely difficult for toss on the pro level. The stephano build 12min max roaches are so potent that i recall him having a 75% win rate against toss? That's some one sided match up on the pro level. But like you said there are plenty of builds from toss that is viable against zerg wheres there really isnt anything else you can do against toss especially when you guys all go FFE, you have to take a third otherwise you're behind and that lets to a few plays only.

And why did the queen range break ZvT? Besides the fact that zerg don't have to invest heavily or get roaches really early just to stop 4 hellions harassing and delaying your 3rd?

Maniak

I agree with lots of your points zvp. i find when watching pro games there has been so much zvp as of late that i am not only sick of watching the match up, but it's really strange.

If you want to know how to beat the Stephano style check out the 2 sets he lost against Oz at the most recent MLG arena.

I don't know what the most balanced non-mirror matchup is. I think if EMP never got nerfed down (or if the nerf was less) it would be TvP. This new 1.5.3 patch may make TvZ better, however I think that the cost of hunter seeker should be less and that there are too many upgrades for the raven. Starport's upgrades as a whole are dumb. HSM should move a bit faster and energy cost down to 100. That would make Air Zerg with Infestors much more beatable by terran.

IEM will be great! Nestea signed up for the open bracket, which is quite cool. I hope that means he's in good form and will be able to do great this weekend at the TAC 3 finals.

I'm actually in bronze. I didn't ladder yesterday otherwise I think I could have been promoted.

U know some stuff quite well, seems weird that you are bronze. And yeah that new patch looks interesting. And about TvP, why just not give terran something late gamerelated (upgrade or smt) that boosts units production speed, maxed vs maxed out army toss doesnt have advantage, advanatage comes after battle if it ends about equally toss just remax faster and terran cant keep up with production, and ohh believe me ghosts are so damn good even now, feedback is impossible, because ht so slow and ghost have higher range. But then again if it's equal late game they should fix early-mid game aswell which imo slightly favors terran.

MLG has been very unhyped but there are some good stories going into it

-Alicia seeking 1st place after placing 2nd in 3 straight premier tournaments (MLG, MLG Arena, and NASL).

-MKP fighting through the open bracket

-The success of the American players seeded in (who there is no expectations for).

-Who will be the foreigner hope of this MLG? Stephano? Grubby? Will a foreigner win one for the first time since HuK in Orlando 2011?

-Taeja is probably the clear favorite, being dubbed the hottest player right now. Who will/can stop him?

Well the brackets this time around tbh are really weak compared to other MLGs. I don't think there's enough Koreans signed up in the open bracket. There's JYP, Leenock, MKP, asd, TheStC, Heart, and Killer. Then there's weaker level koreans like Crank, HwangSin, Apocalypse, SeleCT (most don't even consider him Korean), and IceCream/Illusion.

That's 12, and theres 8 through the open bracket and 8 through the losers bracket. Meaning there will be at least 4 foreigners making it through. Plus, not all of these koreans are guaranteed to make it through. Remember last MLG when Zenio lost to like a plat league player and ROOTFitzy?

I do expect probably 2 ROOT players to make it out is I guess what I'm getting at. I'm also pointing this out to show that there will probably be some pretty weak brackets and some really strong brackets (as there always is).

Can't wait to find out what the brackets are today. I'll probably drop my predictions of who makes it out of all of them.

The WCS NA Finals have begun btw, check it out on majorleaguegaming.com/live.

First matchup is ROOTMajor v ROOTFitzy

Notable first round match ups:

Goswser/Vibe
daisuki/State
Ostojiy/HuK
TT1/Suppy
dde/Illusion

Ostojiy/Huk will probably be the best first round match up. I'm curious to see this MLG if HuK has adjusted his style a bit. I feel as though he's been having poor results because of all of his travel not being able to slow down and adapt a bit to the new patches/meta game. I feel as though due to his Top 3 Control he may begin executing more Stargate based builds that Genius likes or maybe Warp Prism based builds that Hero likes.

if idra beats maker then he's going to have to play a toss in the next round. would really like to watch that set, as he said on inside the game he's taken to a turtle-y long drawn out style of zvp that wins a lot.

wcs not going well for root. drewbie and tt1 already knocked out entirely.

nony got walked over both of his sets, don't know why.

Terrible finals, what happened to First, he played so amazing whole tournament and in the finals he looked like completely other player who has 0 confidence.

Congratz to Leenock anyhow, he had some smart strats indeed.

Maniak

Leenock just toyed with him.

Second MLG title, not bad for a 17 year old.

MLG's production value is the second worst behind IPL's as of late. They just are not trying anything different and it's super pathetic. The "ceremony" or whatever you want to call it at the end is awkward and nothing more.

jaydacris

only game where leenock lost is when he gave the game to first
seen much better play from first throughout tourney, a little disappointing

but gotta give it up to leenock, i think i like his chances vs any P in the finals. nice arsenal of different builds and strategies. and great reactionary play and furthermore not afraid to pull the trigger when he sees an opening. almost mvpesque.

Serious? He has absolutely no game knowledge, like he doesn't even play sc2 at all as far as I know. He's not the worst, but I hope they find someone for full-time casting to go along Kevin Knocke.

Kevin actually said he's going to be stepping back from a lot of casting (he does a lot of stuff behind the scenes for IGN) and focus on his other work more. This sort of leads me to believe that IGN's going to bring in a new duo...

Link to what, btw? I was half right for Group D, Supernova and Happy moved on.

i switched from T to P when i started playing again recently. and my go to build for pretty much every game(against any race) is gate/gas/cyber into 24 supply nexus and depending what the scout tells me, i can either throw down a couple more gates, but if i get denied scouting or it doesnt look like the opposition is going for an early timed push, ill throw down a robo and pop out some obs and transition my game from there. Any other toss players out there?

go to ladder, get replaced in a league. first game zvp entomed. i dont scout enough to realize he's 4 gating, and played too greedily. just a minute or two later and i'd be fine, but i lose. placed in silver, that's nice. i thought it would have been gold because i was getting matched against gold/plat last season. w/e. next game against a random on cloud kingdom. go to scout fast but then i see that he has a probe coming, so i start hitting it and pool first. he tries to cannon rush but fails, i pull 3/4 of drones, deny, and he just leaves. i then message him and talk shit for how terrible he is (i'm an awful human being). there's so many better cannon spots than that on cloud kingdom anyways.

game 3 i picked daybreak. he hadn't expanded either games so i figured it'd be smart to pick a huge map. i went 2 base roach, he went for the zealot build but roach hard counters it ezpz so i held it, then a-moved to his base for zee win.

Nice, I've actually beaten GM protoss in a tournament recently (and he's not just a GM usually like top 30 GM in EU, EC.Krr) yeah pvp is weird sometimes.
I can pretty much take the wins on ladder whenever I want in pvp, but I do not improve if I play that way as those builds are quite boring, it's robo most of the time with different variations depending on the map. So I go for phoenix opening which by now I am quite good at and often grab a win even if they start up with blink, it's very hard to win tho if they open dt into chargelot archon, but it's quite rare, more often they go for this if they open blink and realise that chargelot archon is even better against phoenix.

so boring to watch. the first while nothing at all happens. and even though thats often the case in sc2 there's no way in LoL that anything can happen or will happen. in sc2 there's the offchance of early aggression and things of that nature.

then again the only genres i can take interest in watching are FPS' and RTS'. sometimes an MMO like WoW but their competitive scene is non-existent.

WCS Asia Nationals have begun!

Stream 1 : Link (http://www.twitch.tv/wcsasia_1)

Stream 2 : Link (http://www.twitch.tv/wcsasia)

There will be a lot of PvP, and no korean terrans, but should still be some really high level play.

I don't know how people watch and get excited by either game. I can't even watch my friends play unless I am tutoring them on the mechanics of the game. I disagree with Maniak that SC has occasional early game aggression while LoL doesn't. I don't watch pro's, but I do know they do sometimes aggressively invade the opponent's jungle before the jungle spawns. I do agree that in general, the early game is terribly boring because it's a passive macro/farm fest.

I sometimes wish I can go back to playing SC2, but I just don't like the stress and the pressure to make the right moves and win when I play

I don't really get this stress and pressure when playing sc2, are you planning to be a pro or something ? Just have a damn fun! I am in masters and I just play whenever I have time to and don't give a fck if my rank drops or not, I noticed that the more relaxed I am the better I play, especially managing to do way better multi tasking.

I play dota2 from time to time, but I couldn't ever follow it as spectator, it's to boring to watch for me, games are long. Starcraft tho is miles ahead of any esport for spectating.

In SC2, I really want to win and I like making the right moves. I'm really amateur (top of silver to bottom gold), but I did know a lot of the basics, builds, and matchup situations. When I rewatch my games, I always criticize myself such as "I should have positioned this squad over here" or "I should have expanded at this point". The stress is also from having to keep in mind of so many things such as worker count, scouting, timings, unit counters, etc.

Well, yeah actually there was point in time when all I wanted was to win, but I learned that it's wrong, the game and ladder is build the way that you will lose games no matter what, little by little I've got completely calm about it, just watching replay if after the game if wonder why something happened or if I wanted to check something. Sometimes in my head after the game I do thnk it's unfair that I've lost, but I try to shake that off as fast as I can as I know it's not a good mentality and will not give you anything beneficial.

Rain won WCS Asia last night. Prooooobably the best protoss player right now, as MC hasn't won in a few weeks.

Thorzain just won the Asus ROG GD Invitational. He plays terran so well. I think among foreigner terrans he has the best TvP, and right now is the best overall. Major is inconsistent and doesn't attend enough events. It's a shame TSL ****ed him over.

Slayers disbands...CoCa, Puzzle, and Min have been playing LoL since a few months ago...

The disbanding isn't quite as sad, but that part is. CoCa was probably top 3 zerg in korea just a short time ago. Puzzle is a ro8 level protoss, and Min was performing well in teamleagues, primarily online.

MMA and Alicia both have said they want to go to foreigner teams. Other hot commodities will be Ryung, Genius, Cella (coach), Miya, Yugioh, Dark, KDY, Miso, and Arthur.

Any predictions where most of them land?

Yeah.

MMA is probably torn. Axiom has 2 of his friends and potential/more attention able to be given to him, whereas EG has several of his friends, the potential to play in the GSTL, and more money.

MMA to EG, wow never thought that would be possible.. EG is my fav foreign team so I wouldn't mind haha. Can EG become what Slayers was for terran players and develop a terran mastermind group? PuMa, MMA, Thorzain, Demuslim. Great terran core

[QUOTE]While its impact to players may seem subtle, the out-of-game experience in StarCraft II can be just as important as the in-game experience. Our Battle.net statistics show that players spend about a third of their time in StarCraft II using the menus outside of a game. They might be browsing the latest Arcade games, checking out someone

Jessica is a ****ing liar and has proved this time and time again. Her PR skills are awful and she has proven to be a total bitch on countless occasions. While I'm sure lots of what she said has truth to it, lots of it is assuredly bullshit. I'm quite sure all of this drama is a huge reason that Boxer left slayers.

He still may go to axiom, you never know. But yeah, that's a decent group of terrans. Puma hasn't been too great this year and demuslim still has never broken out at a live event, but yeah, good core nonetheless. If EG got rid of Lzgamer and machine (i know they'll never get rid of incontrol) and made room for players who actually are skilled i think they could be contending for best team non-korean.

MMA and Crank are speaking to Ethan Ahn, a big name for thisisgame (huge korean esports site) late tonight and apparently will be saying a lot. Really interested to see what goes on there.

This is a complete shitfest and I just hope the dust settles. I want these players to find a new home.

Boxer being named head coach for SKT1 is pretty cool and I wonder if we'll see any of the slayers players pop onto skt1 because as far as i know they can...

REMINDER: LG-IM.MVP and Startale.Life will be facing off at 11:00pm pst 2:00am est in the GSL Finals! Best of seven terran versus zerg.

This matchup has a great storyline behind it. MVP is the seasoned vet, looking for his fifth GSL victory, while Life is the royal roader, looking to win the GSL in his first season in Code S at age fifteen!

Plus, LG-IM has been known for winning everything, while Startale is kind of known as the Kong Team (countless players known for second place finishes, such as Life, Parting, Squirtle, and even July).

I find this dreamhack to be somewhat uninteresting due to no terrans past ro16 (thestc and rain both lost in the ro16). plus, no good koreans aside from thestc, rain, and sage.

bly is up 1-0 v mana right now. http://www.twitch.tv/dreamhacktv this is the first ro4 game. after this is nerchio v starnan

i think nerchio is going to win this whole thing, and have thought this all along.
