Garnett was (and still is to some extent) my favorite player. At the time (2008-2009 season) the Thunder were still new and I hadn't really gotten into them if that makes sense. Then I got to go to a few games in OKC later that season in March and April, and I guess that's when I really started following them closely. So I guess if I had registered a month or two later, my screen name would've been completely different and OKC related. Besides, I'm really lazy and really bad at coming up with creative usernames.

I've had people basically tell me that's not allowed before, or get all confused as to why my favorite team is OKC but username is a tribute to Kevin Garnett. So I tried to register another account back in June and it still hasn't been activated. I'm pretty much fine with this one now, though. And it may sound weird, but I live in a state that never had an NBA team. Then the Sonics moved to a city in a bordering state and 2-3 hours from where I live 5 years ago, and they grew on me after I went to a few games.

I'd seriously like to know why registration isn't just always open? Mods can ban now, so if an obvious troll alt-account is obvious just ban it and be done with it. At least a few new posters a month will be genuine I would think.

Yeah, it's the strangest registration process I've ever used. I tried to register in February on the proper date and time and got the registration is closed screen. With the day and time it was supposed to be open. Fired off a complaining email and got an apologetic email from Jeff a couple hours later telling me it would definitely be open the next day.

Registered the next day, got the confirmation email and sent one with my user name as instructed. Waited two weeks and sent an email asking for a status update to both admin addresses. Nothing. Waited two more weeks, sent another with the same result. Didn't know if I'd been rejected or the time period was normal or what. Then a few days later just when I was ready to say screw it, I was activated.

It would seem just putting something about the activation taking as long as 60 or however many days in the FAQ and confirmation email would alleviate a lot of this stuff.

That's not possible at this time. The higher traffic through all the new accounts and dupe accounts would bring the servers down since he's never been able to update the servers since ever.
