View Full Version : Report: Jazz emerge as third team in LAC/DAL deal...

Mo Williams to Utah, Odom to Clippers. This would lend credence to what a poster mentioned earlier, about Devin Harris' workouts in Utah being canceled in anticipation for a trade.

Makes more sense. I would be pissed if the Lakers used the Trade Exception on Mo Williams when we could use it on Beasley...

Mo Williams should deny this deal.
Opt-out and sign a long-term deal with someone.

Mo won't go back to Utah. He would rather opt out and signs for less money with a contender.

Dallas wouldn't be taking back any salary. Odds are they're working on a Harris trade with someone else... maybe to move up in draft?
Devin Harris possibly back to Dallas? Hahahahahah.
Don't think that would be a bad scenario for him, personally. Going back to the team where he played the best ball of his career. Is a good backup option considering they most likely won't land Deron.

Mo Williams should deny this deal.
Opt-out and sign a long-term deal with someone.
How is that in Mo's best interests? It makes no sense to opt out when no one with cap space needs Mo enough to pay him more than $8 mil next year. And while Utah isn't the most exciting destination they have a solid young team that made the playoffs in the tough west, and they need a point guard. This is the rare team that may reward Mo with a big pay day if he contributes as expected and the team is more successful next year than last.
If I was Mo I'd be all for this trade.
AMISTILLILL
06-28-2012, 03:23 PM
In case you're keeping score, this would be Mo Williams' fourth team in five years. I'm sure he's looking for a stable starting gig after all of this moving around. Utah is a decent landing spot, where nobody is expecting a great deal from him right off the bat.

Posted this in the initial "Odom to Clippers" thread in response to Mo Williams maybe going to Lakers:
Great idea.
Utah was the 1st team that came to mind w/ a TE large enough to absorb Mo', he could go back where it all started but yeah, LA Lakers need a capable PG in the worst way and yes their TE from LO ironically is big enough to get them Mo'.
Re-unite him w/ Mike Brown.
Guess my initial hunch was right, I think Mo' and Harris will be a decent PG combo, not to mention the fact that they'll both be expiring along w/ Big Al and Paul Millsap, Utah will have several great assets come trade deadline time.
Hell, IF I'm Utah, I'd make a play for Deron Williams LOL cause after all,
they do have the assets to get him as well as have a very nice team around him.
Can you say Kevin O'Connor's masterplan?

LO is desperate to get back to LA and continue his Hollywood/Khole life. Way I see it, it's either MIA or LAC. Clippers would be offering the same as other teams in terms of salary. End of the day, if they trade MO for TE, they have 8 million and if they don't get LO, no big deal. Amnesty Gnomes and they freed up 12 million. LO can suck a d!ck.

He wants to start. He starts in Utah.
I'd rather not have Mo Williams. There has to be a better option out there
He's like the 2nd coming compared to Harris. He can shoot which they need desperately. He knows the offense already to some degree anyway. He's another scorer which they could use with their inside only attack. He wouldn't have worked if Jerry was still coach but under Ty with Hayward able to run the offense from the wing he might be a great fit.
I think Mo' and Harris will be a decent PG combo, not to mention the fact that they'll both be expiring along w/ Big Al and Paul Millsap, Utah will have several great assets come trade deadline time.
Hopefully they'll still be able to get a young pg to go with Mo and Tinsley and Harris and the head of the Spurs fan club Jefferson will be gone before training camp open. Millsap signed to an extention.

Which brings up an important point. Odom is only 32 and has a skill based game (not athletic) so he can easily give 4-5 more good years IF he's dedicated and focused. Having his bird rights is huge because IF he returns to very good player status we can go over cap to keep him.

It's win/win no matter what. If trade goes through it's a straight swap and Odom>Mo for what we need. If Mo declines to pick up his option it's even better because we can shed Mo's cap AND sign Odom for very cheap.

He's not. I'm guessing Dallas might be interested in him later after their roster starts to come together.
Brian T. Smith: Mo Williams' agent, Mark Bartelstein, has strong ties to Jazz. Represents four players on Utah's 2011-12 roster. Twitter
The Jazz trade exception is for 10.8 million dollars. Jazz can trade for player of 10.8 or less, look around the NBA and not a lot of players, maybe none better than Mo Williams who earn less than 10.8 million and will be available. Moreover, have only 1 year on their deal allowing the Jazz to maintain flexibility for the 13-14 off-season. Marion is 8.6 but has another year. Marvin Williams in 8.3 but has another year. Sulia
Those last two guys can't shoot so Williams is a better call.

You guys already have Eric Bledsoe who has shown promise, I think it's a good deal.
I really hope we move Harris and start Mo, Mo isn't anything overly better than Harris but can shoot the 3 better. Harris + Mo's contracts are way too much to both be on the team.

There is a logjam at the guard spot for the Clippers so it makes sense why LAC is trying to move Mo for a front-court player. Also, I would definitely rather have Bledsoe receive playing time than Williams. Blesdoe is a pretty good player and he'll be a much player than Mo ever was even though I don't like Bledsoe.

Mo Williams is SIGNIFICANTLY better than Harris. Even Dallas Harris was only just comparable to Mo. Mo just put up 14.4 and 3 or something like that off the bench. In starting role year before he put up what 15 and 6?

Is Kenyon still with the Clippers? Kenyon and Lamar backing up Griffin and DAJ is great.
If Lamar can get his head back into the game. Clippers got a really nice C/PF rotation with Lamar helping out the SF if they want to go big.
Grifin, DAJ, Odom, Kenyon...the Big 4 at the 4/5 :applause:

:facepalm you don't remember him being mad about being pulled and refusing to go back into the game in the 4th vs the Grizzlies? It was being reported all over. A few Clippers fans on Topbuzz witnessed it. Not to mention according to a couple STH's Kenyon seemed to have a couple issues on the bench towards end of season.

Wouldn't be surprised if the Mavs do the following with the Mavs getting a trade exception in exchange for Odom:
1. Sign Louis Williams with available cap space, say 3 years, $27 million.
2. Sign and trade (with trade exception and a first round pick) for Jason Thompson (from Sacramento) - 3 years, $24 million.
Fills two needs: scoring guard off bench and a big besides Dirk.

"Mo Williams update: Still could happen. Nothing set, though, and Jazz backing off somewhat. Interested, but delayed situation isn't helping. It's turning into a game between teams and agents that's being aired in public, which isn't a game Jazz usually play. Jazz have other options and free agency's two days away. Will move on and leave deal behind if situation continues to publicly unravel."
