AP: Dwyane Wade called Jerry Colangelo and Mike Krzyzewski today to withdraw from Olympic team. He will need knee surgery.

http://twitter.com/ByTimReynolds/status/218428219387416576

Knew this was coming.

I wonder how serious the knee surgery will be.

Edit: Arthroscopic knee surgery it is!

Dwyane Wade will have arthroscopic surgery on his left knee in near future, expected to be out 6-8 weeks.

I'd actually be pretty concerned as a Heat fan for Wade.

Apparently he's getting surgery instead of the minor procedure he had during the Indiana series of just getting his knee drained. Everybody knows he was playing hurt with a bad left knee, but I wonder if he might need arthroscopic knee surgery.

A lot of players over 30 usually elect for that due to constant pain. Webber, Kidd, & T-Mac come to mind.

I'd rather our backup SG be someone like Arron Afflalo or Wes Mathews, basically someone who can hit the 3 and play good defense and wont have an ego if he barely even plays.

If Team USA is ever down by 2 with under 1 minute left, we deserve to lose.

Far too much talent on this team to be playing a close game.

Somebody will have had to shot 9-26 from the Field because Coach K refused to yank him due to him being a 5X NBA Champion and MVP.

Pretty much.

If Team USA has an issue outside of their C position, its going to be getting an old, arrogant Kobe to buy in to the fact that LeBron & Durant are the most important players on the team.

It's going to be tough to get Kobe to accept at times that he won't be needed. Also we can't forget that Melo was their most important player during the 08 Olympics & qualifying.

Melo knows his role off the bench now that Durant is a starter.

Kobe's ego will make him try to steal the show from LeBron so he doesn't have a perfect season of regular season MVP, Finals MVP, NBA Champion, & being the unofficial MVP of the Olympic team.

Considering lebron is bigger than most 5s especially in international competition i dont think thats gonna be much of a problem and since he has a very efficient post game i dont think playing 4/5 would be that much of a problem. What i wonder Mike Krzyzewski will try something like heat did in their run.Because i could easily see a starting lineup like Lebron-Durant-Carmelo-Kobe-Chris Paul

If i remember correctly both lebron and wade above 60%
Kobe 46%.

Melo was the most important player.

You realize he scored 12 PPG on 1/2 the touches of both Kobe, LeBron, & Wade? He was also the only guy in the rotation hitting spot-up 3's. Then he played better defense then we've ever seen out of him in the NBA when he was guarding 4's.

Melo is coming off the bench this time, but Kobe is the guy who needs to take a step back from what he did in 2008. LeBron & Durant have got this, Kobe just needs to be a good role player.

Kobe was such a defensive stopper lol...give me a break. Lebron and Wade were clearly the two best defensive perimeter players in the Olympics. (by a huge margin) You only need to watch the tapes to see they did a lot more defensively and every single stat here at basketball-reference.com backs that up. Lebron, Wade' and Kobe's drating: 88.6 (lebron), 89.5 (Wade), 98.6 (Kobe). Just look at stops and stop percentage at that and Lebron and Wade cream him. Lebron and Wade clearly affected the defense more and were so much more dominant it's not even a discussion who meant more to the defense. Bryant had no business shooting as much as he did either. The guy took 34 more shots than Wade yet averaged a point less. (16.0 to 15.0)

I don't even see why Kobe is even playing at all. At his age, with the nagging injuries, and all the playing time he has accumulated he has no reason to play. He's already won a gold medal. He should be resting not playing in the Olympics.
