NBPA reportedly considering Dwight legal action to void 2012-13 opt-in, make him FA

@Chris_Broussard Chris Broussard
Situation btwn Dwight Howard & Magic getting ugly. Howard feels Magic made him promises they didn't keep to get him to sign opt-in. (con't)

@Chris_Broussard Chris Broussard
Sources tell @RicBucher Players Assn is considering taking legal action against the Magic on Dwight's behalf. (con't)

@Chris_Broussard Chris Broussard
Goal would be to eliminate Dwight's opt-in and make him a free agent this summer.

Howard picked up the option for the final year of his contract with Orlando on March 15. But since then he has grown increasingly disgruntled with the organization, even telling people close to him that he feels the Magic "blackmailed" him into signing the "opt-in" clause. Howard feels the Magic made promises that have not been kept to get him to sign.

Howard shared his feelings of being blackmailed by the Magic with the NBA Players Association last week, sources said. He -- either himself or through his representatives -- approached the union wondering if he might have a legal complaint against the club.

The goal of such a complaint would be to eliminate his "opt-in," thereby allowing Howard to become a free agent this summer.

lol @ Dwight saying the Magic made him a promise, he only opted in to save face and now is trying to pin this on the Magic.

Here he come the Kobe homers to bash Dwight for not trying to force his way to LA.

What is being rumored is stupid.

The NBAPA won't waste their time on this espesially after he opted in and had a press conference to celebrate it.

A player that doesn't want to live up to his responsibilities? What a surprise!

These guys are a reflection of what our society has turned into. A bunch of self-entitled irresponsible people.

Sorry, but anyone who tries to argue what LeBron did to Cleveland is worse than Howard is doing to Orlando is just plain stupid now.

Howard's situation is miles worse. LeBron fulfilled his contract.

It's Cleveland's fault that they weren't smart enough or aware enough to realize that LeBron had a foot out the door the entire time and that they didn't make sure he was willing to extend his contract with the team before free agency started, not LeBron's fault.

*insert pic of a 1000 face palms*

I seriously wonder, had the All Star game not coincidently been in Orlando last season, does Howard (feel the pressure to) opt in?

Not saying I feel sorry for the guy, because I'm not really a Howard fan, but it was just the perfect storm for him to cave in - the Lebron situation, AS game, etc.

He totally has.

All LeBron did was he left in a stupid fashion by announcing it on TV. Otherwise, he didn't do anything wrong. He played his last season in Cleveland, he didn't make trade demands and he didn't try to get his coach fired.

This has become a joke.

For the love of God, the Orlando Magic need to trade him to Brooklyn and get this stupid saga over with.

If he signed it, unless he can prove there's misrepresentation, or he signed under coercion and duress, there is no chance.
Can't he just man it up? I don't see how asking for a trade will do any good, when it will gut out the other team as well.

Dwight is an overrated piece of shit anyway, who cares:confusedshrug:

The Magic are fu*ked anyways, trade him to whoever offers the best deal, prob for some decent draft picks and offload him. Fu*k where he wants to sign or not... And for fu*ks sake, do it before the season starts:facepalm :facepalm :facepalm

Dwight says that he signed the opt in, with the condition that he will be traded to the Nets.
Otis Smith agreed to fulfill this, but the Magic fired Smith.

I think if this is true, Howard has a good case.

I figured a lot of Dwight's demands were the media's way of generating headlines or else Orlando's way of getting back at Dwight, but if this actually goes down I would almost have to solely blame him for acting like a complete douche. Shut up, honor your contract, and leave after the season. That, or quietly ask for a trade and act like a professional regardless of what happens.
I just don't understand what he thinks he's accomplishing by doing this... the backlash he's going to receive, especially if he ends up playing in a large market, will be worse than what LeBron had to go through. LeBron might have made a fool of himself with The Decision, but at least he honored his contract.

In the end, seems like Dwight is going to keep his word. Last year he said "If we don't go to the finals/win it next year, then I'm out.". Turns otu he will stick to his word.

Seems like everybody wants to follow in Lebron's footsteps, when picking a new team. Melo had the same drama when he left Denver, and ended up with a worse team in New York. Seems like Howard's on that same path. Creating a whole bunch of drama for no real reason at all.:facepalm

ElPigto

Definitely a bitch. If the NBPA would have even entertained this, it would have been a joke. So they lied to you, so what bitch? I remember when Boozer lied to the Cleveland organization, no one filed any appeals there to let them do the process all over.

Dwight is one little bitch. With the said, I still want him on the Rockets, even if we become one of the most hated teams in the NBA. Even if it's just for one year, I would love to enjoy one season of being somewhat of a threat.

Yeah, definitely gonna be taking the throne from LeBron as the most hated guy in the league.

Tbh I saw this coming. Everyone knew Dwight was leaving sooner or later. He clearly expressed no interest to stay in Orlando. I felt like he signed the Opt out waiver the last minute because he was pressured by the media, his agent, or maybe the Orlando Front office. Maybe he's not totally evil and is just naive and doesn't know how to handle situations like this.

But still he's an idiot. Should've just opted out and not give a f*ck what people say. He's actually not giving a f*ck right now.

I would feel bad for the Magic but after the 1st two times this happened with this fool somebody should have realized that Dwight was never going to truly make up his mind....And who's their coach going to be next season? We'll see if they find someone better then SVG(I doubt).
