View Full Version : Goodbye Joe Johnson

Joe Johnson may never be seen in another Hawk uniform. His contract may be ridiculous, but there is no doubt he was a top 5 player at one point in his career.

This is the last mix I'll ever watch of Joe, as it featured the 2011 - 2012 season. He could never win us the ring, but he sure did turn us from a 20 win team to a 50 win team.

Have a good career Joe, we'll miss ya. Everyone should watch this WHOLE video, especially Brooklyn fans. Brooklyn, treat him nice...

Or ignore his contract. If he plays like normal and the Nets win, they won't give a shit about his contract anymore. That's especially true since the Nets have a very rich owner who obviously doesn't care about Joe's crazy contract.

That the owner is very rich isn't that relevant since there's a salary cap, and Joe is eating it up more than any other player in the league. If this was baseball, then yeah, it wouldn't matter.

Johnson was on the Hawks that year, the Suns have nothing to do with my post.

I am saying that the C's could have done some MAJOR damage in a weak east with PP and JJ. It would be them, Miami and Detroit vying for supremacy because Pierce's peak was THAT good.

And if you're talking about the hawks in 06, wtf is wrong with you :wtf:

Oh and if you're talking about the Celts, no way a Pierce Joe Johnson duo could work, like I said, Pierce played alot like Joe and in 06 more like Melo and Joe was more of a shooter back then but still was more effective being a ball handler. the duo could've made some noise but probably would've ended up being like the current knicks

Dude...they would have cruised past the first round. What are you talking about here? Did you watch Pierce and JJ those years? They would have been formidable imo. I don't see how they couldn't work, Doc is a master at running plays for everyone. They would have been playing off each other in no time.

06-07 season...

Joe averaged 26/4/4, 47% shooting and 38% 3pt.

How is that not arguably top 5?

More than 5 perimeter players had seasons like that in '07, and Joe averaged 25/4/4. Not a big deal, just corrected that for the sake of these comparisons.

Kobe- 32/6/5, 46 FG%, 34 3P%, 77 games
Melo- 29/6/4, 48 FG%, 27 3P%, 65 games
Wade- 27/5/8, 49 FG%, 27 3P%, 51 games
Lebron- 27/7/6, 48 FG%, 32 3P%, 78 games
Arenas- 28/5/6, 42 FG%, 35 3P%, 74 games
Carter- 25/6/5, 45 FG%, 36 3P%, 82 games
T-Mac- 25/5/7, 43 FG%, 33 3P%, 71 games
Iverson- 26/3/7, 44 FG%, 32 3P%, 65 games
Ray Allen- 26/5/4, 44 FG%, 37 3P%, 55 games

And that's just high scoring perimeter players. Not included were Tim Duncan, who won his 4th title, Dirk who was voted MVP, led his team to 67 wins and averaged 25/9/3 on 50/42/90 shooting %. Nash who averaged 19 ppg and 12 apg on 53/46/90 shooting %. Or if we're talking about players who missed a lot of games, there's Yao who averaged 25/9/2/2 on 52 FG%/86 FT%, and was arguably the league's most dominant player before his injury averaging 27/10/2/2 on 52% and 87% from the line over his first 26 games.

And then there's KG, Bosh, Elton Brand, Billups ect.

Joe was a Michael Finley level player. That's all.

Great mix. Joe has always been one of my favorite players, just love his style on the court. Very smooth player. That first round series against the C's a few years back will always be among the coolest Johnson highlights for me. I remember when I used to play NBA2k9 and 2k10, I would always do fantasy drafts and try to get KG in the first, and hope Joe would fall to me in the second round. That team was so boss. I'm not a Hawk fan, so it doesn't matter to me he was traded, but he certainly will still be one of my favorite players to watch.

As a Jazz-fan, I will always remember the quadruple OT-game this year when JJ really came up big when it looked like the Hawks were done. Good luck in Brooklyn and best of luck to the Hawks. I really enjouyed watching the Hawks back in the nineties when Mookie Blaylock was there and hope that you guys become relevant again very soon.

he's a hot and cold chucker more or less. he's probably one of the most overrated stars of this era, especially with how media portrays him. only thing he really ever had going for him is his height post mismatch for a SG, but otherwise its laughable how much people hype him related to how good he actually is. i swear people either don't watch, or have poor observational skills.

You're ruining an appreciation thread. Of course Joe wasn't top 5, I was just saying that to appreciate his greatness.

You can do so without making over the top statements. Joe Johnson has never been a top 5, or top 10 player, and if I think for a minute I can come up with 15 players at any point in his career that I'd take over him. At best he was a top 5 shooting guard, and he was only at that point when guys like Tmac, Iverson,Carter starting slipping.

Now if you want to argue top 5 worst contracts in professional sports history, you'd have a good case.
