It has to be between '86 Bird & '12 LeBron. Bird in my opinion is the better offensive player being the better shooter, post player, and passer, while LeBron has a comfortable edge on Bird on the defensive end. Lets look at the postseason numbers...

'86 Bird (2.6 TO per game)
1st round- 28/8/8, 1.7 spg, 1.3 bpg, 53 FG%, 40 3P%, 83 FT%,
semifinals- 27/10/7, 1.8 spg, 53 FG%, 33 3P%, 96 FT%
conference finals- 25/10/8, 1.8 spg, 55 FG%, 50 3P%, 95 FT%
finals- 24/10/10, 2.7 spg, 48 FG%, 35 3P%, 94 FT%

'12 LeBron (3.5 TO per game)
1st round- 28/6/6, 2.2 spg, 48 FG%, 35 3P%, 81 FT%
semifinals- 30/11/6, 2.7 spg, 50 FG%, 17 3P%, 73 FT%
conference finals- 34/11/4, 1.1 spg, 1.3 bpg, 53 FG%, 29 ft%, 65 FT%
finals- 29/10/7, 1.6 spg, 47 FG%, 19 3P%, 83 FT%

It seems to me that LeBron has the edge on Bird in terms of scoring and defense, while Bird has him beat on offensive efficiency (Bird committed less turnovers), passing & shooting. I think the fact that Bird put up similar stats to LeBron despite being less ball-dominant is more impressive to me. Bird easily could of averaged 30+ points in that playoff run, but he didn't have to because he had McHale who was an offensive machine (25 PPG on 58% shooting), 5 Boston players averaged 15+ PPG during the '86 postseason, they obviously had more offensive weapons than Miami. Miami needed LeBron to score 30 points on some nights in order to win.

Because of the fact that Bird was the best player & leader of in my opinion the greatest team in NBA history, I'm gonna have to vote for him. Bird was the reason why the Celtics ball-movement was probably the best in NBA History.

1986 Larry Bird.

Last round Lebron got about 30+ votes and was 20+ votes ahead of third, and now he will not get even 10 votes. This threads are all about finding the new playoff run to put it ahead of Lebron's, even though clearly undeservedly.

So message for all the posters who wanted to vote for Lebron: DONT DO IT!
Lets just satisfy Kobe fans' wishes. Last 2 years were hard for them, watching Lebron going into the straight finals, and winning this year in big fashion, and it will repeat next 3 years at least. They are simply desperate right now.

IM VOTING FOR 09' KOBE! :lol

Magic has to have #10 in the bag.

1987, averaged 22, 8, and 12 in the Playoffs, and more impressively, 26, 8, and 13 in the Finals against none other than his rival and nemesis, Larry Bird and the Celtics. Shot 55% from the field as a POINT GUARD in that Finals.

Game winning baby-sky-hook-shot in Game 4, a game that, if the Lakers lost, would have sent them back to Boston for Game 5 tied, and with homecourt advantage for the remainder of the series.

After the series, Bird proclaimed Magic the best he'd ever seen play basketball, ever.

If Magic isn't #10, something is wrong with ISH.

The ONLY reason Magic isn't #9 ahead of Bird is, he had much more help that year than Bird in 84. Worthy was beginning to dominate, and Kareem was still dropping 30 points in the Finals. Bird's supporting class had not yet grown into HoFers in 84. That is the only reason I can give him the nod over Magic.

Nowitzki in 2011...

He was a difference maker. Without him, Dallas would have been eliminated in first round, or second at best. He was so clutch, that the opposing team needed 20+ point lead in 4th quarter to win the game... and sometimes, even that wasnt enough.

Having watched all but I think 8 or 9 televised playoff games since the mid 80s....I really dont see how Kobe was even getting votes this early.

Hes on a higher level in general than some people who have had better finals runs but still....ive never been left thinking "That guy is just dominant as hell" watching him win a title. Hes never had one of those runs.

As I said...hes arguably as good as or better than some people who have. But fact remains...Kobe has never really had to play his best to win a ring. Especially in the finals.

Kobe has never had a finals that just stands out in my memory as a great series by the standards of people on his level. Hes had some great conference finals and he ate the suns up more than once. But on the biggest stage? His shot so often seems to be off. They won in 09 but in the last 3 games he went 11/25, 11/31, and 10/23 and its not like the Magic had any outstanding guards he needed to shut down.

And im not saying he somehow chokes in the finals or anything. I dont think Kobe really lets the situaiton get to him. But for whatever reason....he never has that "Ok...this is why hes a big deal" finals.

You could argue that with 5 rings he has not had to have one. But whatever the reason....hes never left me in awe after the finals. Hes never had to do what Wade did to win in 06 and it doesnt seem anyone even cares about that.

He might be better than Wade...hes never really played better on that stage than Wade did. he might be better than Dirk...hes never really been more dominant than Dirk was in the west playoffs and both have had worse finals than they played on the way to them.

Kobe has never played better than Shaq in the 02 playoffs either. Shaq would go have games in the finals that makes you feel like an idiot for even questioning if the other team could win a game. Shaq played spirit crushing "Do we even need to play game 4?" basketball in the finals.

Kobe has played on an all time elite level plenty of times. Just so happens it isnt usually on the stage people are gonna remember.

'86 Bird, just like my last vote.

He was playing flawless basketball. Averaging 26/9/8 on 52/41/93 shooting.

And more importantly, '86 Bird passes the eye test. The Atlanta series in particular sums up Bird's playing style and what makes him so great. He was playing in that unmistakable style, and it's Larry Legend at his best. One of my favorite series and Bird at his best like that is as enjoyable to watch as anyone. Not to mention Bird's 24/10/10 finals.

Thought about '77 Walton and '87 Magic as well.

Come on.. it didn't went according to your opinion so you think there's a conspiracy against Lebron? How about people just recognize the truth? How about everyone just think Bird 84 was right for the top 9th spot?

Are you really going to sit here and tell me Lebron 12 was better than Bird 84 with no contest at all? Bird had a great run, you gotta accept that. The rest is up to people's opinion.

This ain't like Billups and Lebron. Of course we'll accept Lebron over Billup because he was just head and shoulder above and better. But Bird, he was not. What can you do :confusedshrug:

Lebron stans are either disrespectful to the past or just plain ignorant if they think it's a travesty that these 10 GREAT runs don't have a case over Lebron's. Seriously, look at the list and tell me what stands out.

Non Lebron stans are either disrepectful to the future or just plain ignorant if they think its a travesty that Lebron doesnt have a case whatsoever over at least 84 Bird or 86 Bird.... two can play that game...

All of those #8 runs have a very good case over Lebron, but 84 Bird or 86 Bird or any playoff run by a FMVP after that have weak cases in comparasant....

Like i said before:

1. Lebron was more impressive than Larry Bird in 84 Playoffs, he averaged 30/10/6 @ 50% FG, as somewhat evident of his stats rating (PER) that playoff run at an all-time high 30.3... which is the #3 highest PER of all these contestants playoff runs... on top of that he played MUCH better defense than Larry Bird ever did in his life (may i remind you is a very important facit of the game)... then he never had a bad game and always stepped up in historic fashion when his team needed him the most (45-15-5 Game 6 vs Celtics is one example)... which all in all hypothetically immediately should stop any debate about who performed better between 12 Lebron & 84 Bird....

2. Lebron had less productive teammates than Larry Bird in 84 Playoffs, he "carried" more than what Larry Bird "carried"... the facts to that statement go something like this:

This is what Lebrons & Birds supporting cast produced in 1984/2012 Playoffs:

Birds supporting cast.................Lebrons supporting cast.....
83.0 PPG............................................... 64.9 PPG
33.1 RPG............................................... 30.4 RPG
17.1 APG............................................... 11.7 APG
6.3 SPG............................................... ...5.4 SPG
4.2 BPG............................................... ...3.9 BPG

source (http://www.basketball-reference.com/teams/BOS/1984.html)

Celtics double-figure players (excluding Larry Bird) 1984 Playoffs stats:
Dennis Johnson - 17 / 4 / 4
Robert Parish - 15 / 11 / 2
Kevin McHale - 15 / 6 / 2
Gerald Henderson - 13 / 2 / 4
Cedric Maxwell - 12 / 5 / 2

Heat double-figure players (excluding Lebron James) 2012 Playoffs stats:
Dwyane Wade - 23 / 5 / 4
Chris Bosh - 14 / 8 / 1
Mario Chalmers - 11 / 4 / 4

3. Competition? Larry Bird had better competition in the Finals... Lebron had better competition in the 1st, 2nd round and ECF especially when considering what he had to work with around him (as seen above, where in ECF he even played without Bosh practically)....

What this means is that Lebron performed better than Bird while carrying a LESSER team.... so what is the debate here really? ZERO.... only Lebron pessimism... thats all it is...

Larry Bird has a case but Lebron James case is much stronger....

...and go to hell if you think i disrespect Larry Bird, he is my 2nd favorite player of all time behind Reggie Miller, i have over 150 vcr/dvd/xvid/mpg/divx etc. games of him, many from that 84 Playoff run.... Bird did NOT have a better playoff run than 12 Lebron, close, but not better...

So Pauk, you're just going to stuff you tail inbetween your p u s s y and run out the last thread hoping no one would notice your incompetence?

NOPE.

You know Pauk, I typically just ignore you and your posts. Mostly because you're rather insignificant to me, and I almost pity you; anyone that is forced to gargle Lebron's semen in their mouth and simultaneously use a keyboard most certaintly lives a poor quality life.

However, since you've managed to eclipse even your own standards of complete and utter idiocy and Lebron obsess, I'd love to slap you around a bit, if not for my own entertainment, before I hop on this plane in a couple of hours.

Also, to show all the little Lebron kiddie accounts in this thread (at least the ones that aren't puppet mastered by you) why it's not wise to follow a ****** down a yellow brick road.

This was your exact post earlier today:

Implying that it still isn't a forgone conclusion that the 84 Lakers were better than the Thunder. Why? Why, because of their winning percentage of course!

So, Pauk, you piece of withered Lebron shit you, the winning percentage in a lockout shortened season is suffice enough to determine a team's superiority...that is he foundation of what you so shamelessly stepped to me with.

OK. Cool!

So answer these questions for us, you sad, sad, excuse for a virtual lifeform.

Were the 2012 Pacers a better team than the 2010 Celtics?
Pacers - .636% team vs. Celtics - .610% team

Well?

Were the 2012 Thunder a better team than the 2001 Lakers?
Thunder - .710% team vs. Lakers - .683% team

What's that? Sorry, I don't speak flaming homo. Hold up, let me find that translation app.

Were the 1994 Nets a better team than the 2012 Knicks?
Nets - .549% team vs. Knicks - .546% team

Go ahead, tell me how much better Coleman and Kenny Anderson are than Melo and Amare.

Yea, shut the **** up. And hey, take Lebron's scrotum out your mouth next time you address me. I don't like pubic hair spewing on my vvaves, so not classy.

TRY WATCHING A BASKETBALL GAME SOMETIME, AND STOP JERKING OFF TO STATISTICS ALL DAY LONG. ONCE YOU GIVE YOUR HAND A REST, YOU'LL FIND THAT PLAYER'S ARE NOT ROBOTS, AND THAT THERE IS MORE THAN MERE NUMBERS THAT DEFINE A PLAYER, OR IN THIS CASE, TEAM.

Tell us again how much harder Lebron's competition was this year than Bird's competition in 1984.

wait.

Let me guess!! You're going to say Bird had more help from his teammates than Lebron did! Good thing I minored in mind-reading, let me help you out with that, courtesy of OldSchoolBBall:

As I said earlier in the thread with no response, here's the production using your precious "PER" for their next 5 highest mpg players in the playoffs:

'12 Heat:

22.0
19.7
13.2
12.0
10.6

'84 Celts:

16.3
15.6
14.5
13.3
12.9

Try again, kid. :oldlol: Just like how I dismantled your bullshit post in the other thread regarding MJ's 1998 team and Lebron's Heat and you tucked tail and ran like a beaten dog. :oldlol:

That's an average PER of 15.5 for the next 5 highest mpg players in the playoffs outside of Lebron on the Heat, and an average PER of 14.5 for the next 5 highest mpg players in the playoffs on Bird's Celtics, excluding Bird as well.

Now I'm going to go back to my regular, laid back disposition. Try not to disturb me with your ignorance again, I don't like clowning people, it takes too much energy.

He's not even close to top 10. In no way, shape, or form does any of his playoff runs as FMVP compare to Magic's '87, Bird's '86, Jordan's '98, or Lebron's '12.

This... and i would add also:

Kareem's '71
Moses '83
Nowitzki '11
Shaq's '02
West's '69

09 Kobe

West first round: 27.4/5.0/5.6/2.4/0.4 on 57.0 TS% against the Jazz (4-1 win) #10 defense

West semis: 27.4/5.0/3.7/2.0/1.3 on 53.5 TS% against the Rockets (4-3 win) #4 defense

WCF: 34.0/5.8/5.8/0.8/0.5 on 62.7 TS% against the Nuggets (4-2 win) #8 defense

NBA Finals: 32.4/5.6/7.4/1.4/1.4 on 52.5 TS% against the Magic (4-1 win) #1 defense

seriously...has anyone else in recent memory done this much damage to great defenses? hell, have any of the other Finals MVPs even FACED four top 10 defenses in their respective runs?

Oh wow. That's pretty impressive. I'm going with 09 Bean.

I think the more interesting question is, among you, Lebron23, and Pauk, how many accounts do you have combined? :oldlol:
Or are you all just one?! the intelligence matches..

Seems like you're very obsessed with alternate accounts. I don't understand the fatuation though.. other then using them to vote for Lebron like you guys have :oldlol: , what use is it?:confusedshrug:
This is my account, I could give less a damn who you think I am.
Hello there Lebron23 btw:cheers:

What was soo special about Kobe in 2009 in the playoffs? He played the most playoffs games and still didn't even have the highest win share in the playoffs and only had a 26.8 PER. Also his teammate was right with him in total win shares. Let's not forget in a game 7 as well he shot 33% FG and only scored 14 pts.

That might be meaningful if PER and win shares were actually useful and significant stats...but they aren't.
