Are you supposed to eat them raw or cooked? I'm going to a seafood restaurant soon and I probably should get an idea of what they taste like. Anybody ever have them before? What do they taste like?

steam it its good

raw is good

its just good

not as good as lobster or crab

i dont recomend them raw tho, but they are pretty good.i cant really explain the flavor but its pretty good if you like seafood

Yeah, melted butter is the way to go. But if you eat them, make sure to eat them whole. Do not bite into half of it and then inspect the other half; you won't want to eat anymore if you do.

oysters should be shucked and eaten raw. With a savory cocktail sauce (horseradish based).

Clams and mussels should be steamed and eaten with melted butter or garlic butter.

Texture is smooth and chewy, taste is salty and very sea like. It is a very specific taste quite hard to qualify.

EDIT: I cant believe I replied honestly to a year old thread. Jokes on me hahahahahahahahahahaha

you just swallow them and don't chew at all as far as i know. i think oysters are supposed to be an aphrodisiac too.

you'd best cook them. because the edible innards consists of everything from its flesh to its organs. literally its organs is in that visceral mass that you eat.

I've never had them....only thing I've had was mussells. And this was at this resturant called Legal Seafood. They were steamed I believe...in a bucket. Guess what I was dipping it in was melted butter. It wasnt bad. I was expecting worst.

Good raw oysters taste amazing. They are also great cooked.

Clams go well with butter and soy sauce.

my mum deep fried oysters , and then served with a ketchup sauce.

clams only had a few times , but liked them steamed.

If you like sea food or fish in general - you will love them.

I like the image of the Jasper persona as a kid, in the late 1940s, eating deep fried oyster with ketchup in his mother's kitchen. It's very wholesome.
