The Oklahoma City Thunder has agreed with former No. 2 overall pick Hasheem Thabeet on a two-year contract: http://www.insidehoops.com/blog/?p=10374

Sheesh, like they needed more size. Nice pickup though.

Perfect example of why not to draft a guy off of size and potential alone.

Not a bad signing for OKC. Maybe he can make something of himself there.

He is going to be the 3rd string center, for less than our current 3rd string center, Nazr Mohammed. If it';s for the minimum, for a player with his amount of experience that is only ~900k. It's low risk, potentially high reward. I think he;ll jump Aldrich in the rotation soon enough.

This. It's not a good or bad signing. It's just....a signing. It's not like we could go out and afford a low-post scorer anyway and it does not mean we won't attempt to keep Ibaka. It is what it is, signing a 3rd string center for cheaper than the current 3rd string center.

All he has to do is grab 5 boards and block a shot or 2 and he will be the perfect backup C. Imagine pairing him with Ibaka, no one will be able to drive on them.

having another African teammate should make Ibaka happy.

maybe playing with Perkins and Ibaka will shape Thabeet game out a bit.

This.

Why are thunder fans acting like Thabeet is going to do anything but sit on the bench? He's garbage.

JUST because he's 7'3 doesn't "Add length". I mean, I hope he does well but he hasn't shown anything that would warrant him being a role player in this league.

LMAO and did someone seriously make some African connection with Ibaka/Thabeet?

In his first year he averaged 9.9 rebounds and 3.6 blocks per 36 minutes and shot 58% (albeit on only 8.5 points per 36 and 6.6 fouls per 36).

He certainly (and clearly even at the time) should not have been picked where he was, has shown (albeit not too recently) that he could be a servicable backup.

If it is indeed at or near the minimum then theres no risk and a potentially solid reward.

I do wonder if he picked the right team though, or if this is bad news for Cole Aldrich because there won't be enough minutes to develop them both, unless this is insurance for amnestying Perk somewhere down the line.

He's not even going to be the back-up center more than likely. That'll be Cole Aldrich and, even then, Collison and Ibaka may log more minutes at center than Aldrich and Thabeet if Perry Jones comes along and shows he's deserving of 12-15 minutes a game.

Could you please quote all the posts from Thunder fans saying they expect good thins from Thabeet next year and think he'll be a contributor?

Seriously, what Thunder fans are saying this? We all know what we signed him for, and that's to be our 3rd string center for less than $1MM a year, which is going to be cheaper than last year's 3rd string center.

I guess this is what turning into a contender does? You sign a 3rd string center and 11th or 12th man, and not only does a thread get made about it, but it gets a sticky.

Runs the floor better than any other 7-3 guy I'd imagine. 6 fouls, with a block a bucket and a board or two is what I would expect. If he wasn't such a puss he would be great to hack opposing big men but he prefers the touch fouls. And getting thrown over Blair's back.

Cole Aldrich sucks. I think he'll jump him in the rotation, and/or we'll end up giving up on Cole and sending him to Charlotte like our last 2 bigs.

To be fair about that whole getting thrown over Blair's back thing. Blair is much shorter and has a lower base, it happens often actually. A smaller player who weight about the same as a taller player will have a much more solid base, thus can easily flip him over his back as opposed to trying it the other way around.
