View Full Version : Nigeria STUNS Greece - Greeks fail to make Olympics

Absolutely unbelievable game. This is one of the biggest upsets in international basketball and the greatest win in the history of African basketball. Nigeria have now beaten Greece and Lithuania consecutively. Greece's Olympic hopes are dashed.

The Greeks had a 13 point lead in the second half but couldn't match the athleticism of the Nigerians.

Ike Diogu had 17/12 to lead Nigeria, this guy named Daganduro had some HUGE cold blooded shots at the end of the game to close it out, and Al-Farouq Aminu had 13 and a monster put back jam. Spanoulis had 25 points but missed a critical free throw (5/11 from the FT line) and got his game winning 3 attempt blocked from behind.

Kostas Papanikolaou had a huge 3 at the end of the game that would have won it but the Greeks didn't contain the Nigerian penetration and put them on the line with 3 seconds to go.

Greek bashing aside, Nigeria was really fun to watch. Almost all of their players are Americans of Nigerian descent. They're a streaky shooting team and play almost entirely iso but they have the athleticism and talent to make up for it.

They probably don't have much of a chance against Russia but they'll have a shot in the 3rd place game.

Ekpe Udoh, Ben Uzoh, Ime Udoka, and Akin Akingbala all weren't able to play or this team would have been significantly better.

No, Greece is just losing on purpose for better seeding (next Olympics).

Or, his other excuse might be "The refs don't want any real challengers to the USA" or some other bullshit.

I'm not up much on international ball outside of the US squad, but I'm somewhat surprised that Africa doesn't have a bigger presence on the international scene. I feel like going forward they will be more and more of a force because I know that they are starting to spread basketball academies in some of the nations. Some of those kids are coming here to play and maybe someday they'll be pumping out enough high quality talent that they'll have guys to choose from from the top tier of bball. (NBA).

We already have a few guys, just not enough and not all from the same place.

But anyway... lol Greece.

They're just not the team they used to be.

It's always fun to laugh at Euroleague, but the Greek team did beat the US in 2006.

If you can't see the difference between a deep team featuring prime Papaloukas, Diamantidis and Tsartsaris, on the one hand, and a team where Nick Calathes is a key player, on the other, you're being dishonest.
Spanoulis never was the difference maker. He's never been no par with guys like Navarro.

He didn't watch the game. He assumed they'd qualify to advance to the gold medal because theyre supposedly the best in the world. Last years Kentucky team with Davis on it would have steamrolled the pathetic Greeks.

The Nigerian Greek slayers: Where are they now?

Ade Daganduro - the clutch beast who tore up the Greeks in the final minutes - averaging 0.9 points a game on 15% shooting for Roma in Serie A

Ike Diogu - Guangdong South Tigers (China)

Derrick Obasohan - averaging 9 points a game in France

Chief Aminu - 10 points a game on the injury riddled Hornets

Champ Oguchi - NBA D-League all day, every day

He's playing well, averaging 14/8 for Karsikaya in Turkey. They're currently 5th in the TBL.

Aminu is having a good NBA season.
He will start and play heavy mins regardless of injuries.

He's averaging 3 turnovers a game which is atrocious for a wing that doesn't handle the ball much. He has potential but makes so many out of control and brainless plays. Also, keep in mind that the Hornets haven't had Gordon and sometimes Davis for most of the season and someone has to score. If he had any real competition at his position, he'd be in danger of losing his starting spot.

Yeah pretty harsh judgement.
Plenty had buried the guy. He is 22 years old and had improved vastly. 2.7 turnovers, not great but not atrocious. There are plenty of small forwards over 2 a game, that handle as much or more or less than he does. Some veterans.
He played just as good when Davis was there, and Gordon wont affect play time, and he is an all around player rather than a scorer.
He doesn't belong in the group of players you put him in, its just trolling on Euro and it conflicts with facts.
He has had a good season, to say otherwise is hating.

Plenty of small forwards who are over 2 a game? Only Durant and Melo average more TOs than him and don't try to tell me he handles it anywhere near as much as he does. He's also one of the few guys that leads the league in turnovers that has a negative assist to turnover ratio. Giving away the ball on a team that has so few offensive options is suicidal to your team's game plan.

He's just not very good, I've watched him since college and he hasn't improved much since his rookie season. He just has a bigger role and more minutes on a rebuilding team. Just because you think he's had a good season doesn't mean it's a fact and most certainly isn't hating.

Bump. Aminu is having such a "good season" that he was dropped from the rotation shortly after this post for Xavier Henry and Darius Miller. The only reason he got his spot back is the guys ahead of him played terrible as well.

In your consistently moronic attempts to defend Euroleague, you've successfully come across as clueless. Congrats.
