Take the minimum dose if you haven't dabbled in prescription drugs before. And I know it sounds cliche, but be careful.
I wouldn't use things like that unless prescribed. Seen way too many people have issues with pills.

If you're going to abuse prescription drugs, I would recommend Vyvanse. The potential for abuse is practically zero, as you can't crush it up and snort it. You also don't get a stimulant high like you do with Addy.

I was actually diagnosed with ADHD and let me tell ya, if you take that shit long enough and you aren't supposed to or your dose is too high you will get side effects. At one point my anxiety went through the roof.

Don't take Adderall if you don't have ADHD PERIOD. For somebody with ADHD it levels the playing field and gives you the focus of an average person or slightly better. For somebody without ADHD it's flat out drug abuse obviously and cheating life TBH. Not to mention it will permanently ruin your metabolism AND hurt your kidney's long term.
My experience? I was on Adderall for 5 years.

Stop spewing bullshit. What works for one person won't for another. If he does choose to take prescription drugs though, he should be aware of the possible side effects. Chances are you will get them if you aren't meant to be on the drug or it's a bad fit for your body chemistry.

I took 20mg before my finals spring semester and gave me a nice boost for my morning exams. Took it at around 8am, and was still feeling it until around 2pm. So just 10-20mg and you'll be cramming for a good 4 hours.
Btw, don't snort that shit.

Wrong. Long term Kidney damage, damaging metabolism happens to everybody eventually.. Just to different degrees. Love how you, somebody who seems like a douchebag who would abuse prescription drugs is telling me shit though. I've been on different things my entire childhood. Maybe he won't get some of the side effects but it's ALWAYS stupid to abuse prescription drugs when you don't have a condition.

Pathetic. You are the reason people who actually need meds aren't trusted anymore by doctors. Bunch of retards abusing adderall has driven the price up and made it much harder for people who need it to get it. Can't stand cheaters.

I like how you, a borderline idiot, try to give advice when a lot of it depends on each individual's body chemistry. What works for someone won't work for another. There's a reason there are so many different reviews on prescription medicine; it varies from person to person.

That's why I recommended Vyvanse. Obviously I don't think he should be dabbling in prescription drugs at all, but if were to go that route than Vyvanse would be safer than Addy, as it's a slow release pill that cannot be crushed and snorted.

As somebody that's struggled with ADHD my whole life I can tell you with 100 percent certainty that you and LA showtime are talking out of your ass. Not only is the condition very real but it's not misunderstood at all, especially in recent years. Does that mean everything about it is known? Of course not. Is it well documented and researched though? Yes.
I don't think you realize how destructive it can be to be unable to focus on one task for more than a few minutes and that's just one problem with ADHD. It's a big reason I've had so many jobs in my life. It's actually hurt me in college badly as well. That's just the main thing too. It's a lot more complex than that. I don't use it as a crutch at all but as somebody who's been both heavily medicated and unmedicated I can speak with experience more than anybody on this forum who hasn't been in that situation.

I'm somebody who's ****ing been medicated from the age of 5-18 years old. Who are YOU... some little limpdick who's never been on the med to give advice? That's the better question here.
Nobody who doesn't have a condition needs a pill to function. It's called cheating and abusing drugs. Only a drug addict would say they need something like this to "function" when they don't have the condition to begin with :facepalm .

No, I'm calling you an idiot for thinking your situation applies to everyone. And I was also diagnosed with ADHD, so I'm not sure why you're whining. To me it sounds you're just butt hurt that other people abuse it. So what? Why does it matter what they do?
And of course I wouldn't recommend some guy randomly taking prescription drugs, but telling him not to won't stop him. That's why I said he needs to be careful and watch out for any side effects he will inevitably experience if he continues to abuse the drug(s)

I would start with a 10 if this is your first time. Dont consume a lot of it, I have it prescribed so I have experimented with different dosages, 20-30mg is the max single dose I take. Anymore and similar to Lashowtime, my anxiety becomes an issue. My heart races too quick and I hyperfocus, which is counterproductive. It does have different effects on everyone, but I have never really found it to be addicting. Im even thinking of switching over to another medicine since my body is getting used to current dose and I dont want to go any higher.

Like I said... few years back I went back to Adderall (for couple months)... and the doctor treated me suspicious like I was a drug addict and interrogated me before giving me a subscription. I didn't have to deal with that in previous years and it's ONLY because non ADHD people are abusing the shit out of it. It's been on Discovery multiple times in recent years how it's become the most abused prescription drug.
So I have every right to bitch about people without a condition using prescription drugs to flat out cheat. Highwhey the abnormal heart rate is very bad and the main reason I stopped taking it. It scared the shit out of me when I played sports and I talked to a doctor years later who said heart attacks/instant death are possible from Adderall.
People treat this drug so lightly but it's an Amphetamine. It's basically watered down meth to the body in a lot of ways. As another poster said you become dependent on it too. Let me tell you the fun stuff about going off Adderall after being on it for years.
1. When I stopped taking Adderall I gained 100 pounds in 6 months (yes you heard that right!). My metabolism was sky high because of the drug and my appetite was almost nothing (I was a ripped 175 pounds). Like all drug addicts... once you go off the drug your weight balloons FAST. It took me a year or two to lose most of that weight and since then I have a lot of trouble keeping my weight down. Growing up I was a scrawny kid, even in my teens.
2. Since I went off of Adderall my memory went to complete shit. I'm only 26 and it's been like this since about 19 since it was out of my system. I used to have an insane memory in my teens.
3. Basically everything it boosted (memory, stamina, libido, focus, calmness) etc actually went to a level below what it was at before the drugs. I've gained some back over the years but in general there is no denying there was long term damage. Not to mention while on it... my kidneys were getting slammed hard because I didn't increase water intake enough.
Not saying all of this will affect you guys but is a little more energy+focus really worth all of this? The reason I'm not medicated now is I realized it's just not worth it. The long term effects on the body and mind aren't worth a little help in school. I have to work a lot harder to excel at work etc but it's that much more rewarding anyways. I also lost my personality. On the meds I didn't socialize and I had a bad temper, especially coming down off the stimulants. Not sure if non ADHD users would have the bad mood swings/social problems but It suppressed my personality a lot. I lost all of my creativeness and quirkiness (when on meds).

yeah, i've had a scary moment where i was working out lightly and i was on the verge of dying, i think my blood pressure was stupid high. i've been more careful since(workout few hours after taking medicine, slowly introduce myself to the workout)
as for the personality thing, i can relate to some level, it sort of brings you into your own world so you're basically forced to be an introvert. i am more angry, but i've learned to manage it.
unfortunately, i haven't lost any weight while on adderall lol. it's the other way around, gained a few pounds mainly because i eat a shit load. it does supress your appetite, but i've always been a hungry mfer. i ain't obese but i wona get ripped, sucks when you gain weight, you become EXTREMELY self-concious. the extra fat around your stomach suddenly becomes a fcking child.:(

Sucks man sorry t hear. I lost 20 pounds first month on Adderall. Appetite gone and played basketball at least 3 hours a day. Your stamina should be almost unlimited so make the most of that. I could play 5 hours straight of pick up games and not get tired. The bonuses are nice and tempting to return to but long term effects suck.
If you can't tell i'm an extrovert and the meds definitely made me an introvert. I snapped on people a lot too and became all logic, no creativity. One of my best traits is sense of humor with people and I lost that.

15 or 20 MG twice a day, non time released. I got off right when XR (time released) was coming out. Yea haha... Increased libido is part of it. I definitely felt like a.robot. What sucked worse is I could tell when medicated what it was doing to me. I was aware I wasn't myself. It was induced multiple personality type shit.

When I was in college my buddy had 25 extended release that always got the job done. If you are sensitive to stimulants don't take it too late in the day or you won't sleep, I always took it first thing in the morning after eating breakfast then I would head to the library. Can't comment on the libido thing, it always gave me horrible limp dick. Like my gf sucking my dick and still can't get hard limp dick.

I don't care how many people are misdiagnosed. I legitimately have ADHD and don't condone the use of it for people that aren't 100 percent sure they don't have ADHD. I see plenty of lazy people who just take it so they have to do less work which is what the OP sounded like what he wanted. A cheat.
If somebody legitimately has serious ADHD symptoms or similar problems I won't say a word but as I said... the context of this seemed very casual to me. I've been prescribed adderall and taken it as prescribed and abused the shit out of it. It actually takes a lot to overdose unless you have a heart problem. I've taken 150-200mg's a couple times before during a 24 hour period. Adderall mostly sucks though. It has little to no euphoric effect, so if the reason you are taking it is to get high and feel good you are better served with just getting some coke.
Edit: I didn't even see the studying part. Well I was prescribed 30mg adderall and got them to raise it to 2x30 a day even though I really didn't need to. I had other plans on my mind but that is neither here nor there, but I remember having to go to a final and popping one and aced the hell out of that shit and felt so good and sharp while taking it. It was easy as pie and mostly because I was so focused becaue of the adderall.

1. A high heart rate generally means your dose is too high. If you can safely rule that out, then ask your doctor to prescribe you a beta blocker, which will combat the physical symptoms that come with stimulants.
2. From all accounts Addy does not ruin your metabolism. But most stimulants do suppress appetite. A lot of people go off stimulants and gain weight because their appetite came back.
3. Seems like the only thing we can all agree on is that the side effects are a bitch. Moodiness, the crash, irritability, anxiety, no emotion... that stuff sucks. I don't care if people take the drugs to study for school, but they should damn well know that their messing with a drug that can temporarily change who you are.

Showtime don't brush aside long term effects or damage because almost all medications have some after enough years. If he takes it a few times obviously not.
If you don't need a pill, don't take it. You never know what changing your body metabolism will do to you long term. And those who start abusing, it doesn't take much to push it to a degree that it's an issue.
Always be cautious with medication.

.
How does the first sentence make any sense with the second?:lol If you are prone to gaining weight quickly, being on addys for a long time then stopping will make you gain weight even quicker than usual and the change from not being hungry to being hungry has everything to do with your metabolism changing with the drug usage. I've seen a lot of kids have the exact problems Clipfan is saying.. and it is absolutely terrible for your heart and blood pressure. It's an amphetamine.. these are facts not 'person to person', One of my friends acutally had to stop taking them because he was losing way too much weight.
..everyone will be affected negatively with prolonged usage just to varying degrees.

Because your appetite and metabolism aren't the same thing?
Metabolism is how your body breaks things down to use for energy. You have decreased appetite on addy's because they give you the artificial energy you would normally get from food and they restrict activity and blood flow in other parts of your body to send to the brain.
Brain power and using your brain is the one of the most energy extensive activities you can perform.. When you take amphetamines for a long time you're changing the whole composition of how your body breaks things down and where it expends energy to keep you going in life. It has such a strong effect on your metabolism it isnt even funny.

That sounds like an excuse to get fat. Most people eventually get used to the stimulant and their appetite comes back, and usually it wears off by the time they have dinner anyway. To blame Addy or Vyvanse or whatever on a lack of self control is just plain stupid. Fatties gonna fat.

It isnt even just about getting fat.. people lose weight on them too which is just as bad. This is from regular usage of course, not just using them for finals and stuff. Do you even take Addy or Vyvanse, it sounds like you don't. Stimulants will kill your appetite in the same way that drinking a lot of coffee kills your appetite. It doesn't make you physically unable to eat. All you have to do is "power through" and eat, or wait till it wears off

I was referring to the fact that coffee, which has a shitload of caffeine, is often used to reduce one's appetitite.
And you have had a 'script of Addy? Or have you just taken it for study purposes?
Just to study.. my roommates had scripts and would go a day, a day and a half without eating. Swear to god.:lol That was finals cramming of course not everyday life.

That's what I figured. Keep in mind that the feeling you get is much different from someone who is regularly on prescription medication. That euphoric feeling and intense focus goes away.

Pathetic. You are the reason people who actually need meds aren't trusted anymore by doctors. Bunch of retards abusing adderall has driven the price up and made it much harder for people who need it to get it. Can't stand cheaters.

Do you even take Addy or Vyvanse, it sounds like you don't. Stimulants will kill your appetite in the same way that drinking a lot of coffee kills your appetite. It doesn't make you physically unable to eat. All you have to do is "power through" and eat, or wait till it wears off
my close friend just got a script for vyvanse and has no appetite. she lost 10 pounds in about a month.

I dont get how people dont realize these are fvcking amphetamines:lol very powerful stimulants. Just dont abuse them if you arent scripted and even if you are in a lot of cases.

Yeah, because she wasn't as hungry and didn't eat once the medication wore off. Honestly, some of you people are ****ing dumb.

wow.
adhd may be the most mis/overdiagnosed of any affliction... ever. that hardly means it's f*cking made up. lol
additionally, and i can't believe i have to point this out, but psychiatric disorders like this come in all shapes and sizes. clippersfan never came off to me as the brightest tool in the box, but assuming medication isn't a need for him just because it didn't happen to be a need for you is essentially the silliest fallacy you could possibly make.
i made a thread a while back about potentially seeing a psychiatrist and talking through the possibility of medication to help me focus. i still plan to. i certainly won't just dive into it knowing the risk.
if you understand the nature of the drug, have a certified doctor authorize its use, and just generally go through the necessary precautions to avoid eventual dependence/abuse... well if it helps, why the f*ck not?

 and why wasnt she hungry? Youre acting like a tough guy.. power through it.. man up.. The fact is it produces some serious side effects and not everyone can just gain their appetite back with a snap of the fingers. I can imgaine you telling chemo patients to just man up and eat despite having a suppressed appetite.

I'm going to pretend like you didn't just compare chemotherapy to stimulants. Given that you don't have a prescription and have only taken it a couple times, I don't understand why you're holding so firm on an opinion that is not based on experience or research. My appetite is suppressed on Vyvanse but it's not like I can't physically eat. And if we're being honest here that girl probably loved the fact her appetite went away and decided to skip a meal or two so she could lose weight. Maybe if you took stimulants you could read a book about constructing a legitimate argument and/or not being retarded.

lol.. please dont tell me how to present an argument with your extremely simplistic, purely self oriented approach to describing things here.
That sounds like an excuse to get fat. Fatties gonna fat.

Impeccable logic here to explain why amphetamines dont supress appetite or affect metabolism.

Ok too much bullshit in this thread.
I'm an RN here.
Adderall and Ritalin does not mess with your metabolism, at least not directly. It does suppress your appetite so you eat less, and also give you more drive so you go out more and therefore burn more energy. People who get used to being on the drug become hungry lazy slobs once they get off it since they are so used to their suppressed appetite and drive which they will lose.
So far Ritalin is pretty much proven safe to be given for kids, no real long term organ damage if taken in low doses. I wouldn't want to get dependent on it though.
Sex drive will go up since Adderall works on dopamine receptors which gives you drive to do pleasurable things. Dopamine is what makes you horny.
DO NOT SNORT it ever. Ritalin is basically weak cocaine and Adderall weak meth. They work on the same biological receptors. Just take it with usual prescribed doses and it will not be addictive. You can get dependent on it but that's a different thing altogether.
I also subscribe to the belief that ADHD is bullshit. Yes, people are born with different attention spans, but you should learn to deal with it rather than take a drug to fix it. Saying that 10% of the population are diagnosed with ADHD is like saying that 10% of the population grow up to be under 5'5 and they are sick sick people who require medication. If you are born short you should deal with it, it's not like your brain totally doesn't produce growth hormone.
My suggestion? Take one pill if you need it to study for a test or something and you should be fine. I wouldn't like to be on it long term though.

I'm not trying to call you out or make this personal, but I hate people who say "so and so blah blah blah" when they don't actually have the disorder.

if there was a drug that made short men taller you can bet your ass every short man on the planet would be taking it...
people with short attention spans DO have that option...just sayin

Metabolism is how your body breaks things down to use for energy. You have decreased appetite on addy's because they give you the artificial energy you would normally get from food and they restrict activity and blood flow in other parts of your body to send to the brain.
Brain power and using your brain is the one of the most energy extensive activities you can perform.. When you take amphetamines for a long time you're changing the whole composition of how your body breaks things down and where it expends energy to keep you going in life. It has such a strong effect on your metabolism it isnt even funny.
adderall does not affect your metabolism directly, it suppresses your appetite which is why most people lose weight while on adderall.
i've been taking adderall for over half a year now, and while i definitely notice that my appetite is half of what it use to be, i haven't lost any weight, i've gained a few pounds, but that's because i stopped working out and stopped eating according to my caloric intake(to maintain my weight). i've read the pamphlet of side effects that is given to me by my pharmacy, loss of appetite is clearly mentioned, and as a user myself i can tell you that i very much doubt adderall messes with your metabolism.

Dude, start pumping iron. My lifts went up when I started taking Vyvanse. It will give you more energy. You will get stronger, even if your diet stays the same.

really? i feel the energy lol, i feel i could stay on the threadmill all day. i'm still easing into working out though, my heart rate is elevated a bit above what it would normally be without adderall so i'm taking it easy. my doctor mentioned beta blockers as a possibility but i'm fcking 20, i ain't looking to pop more pills.

I wouldn't worry about getting a 'script for beta blockers unless the excess epinephrine is causing you anxiety and jitters.
Yeah, you'll definitely have more energy to lift. I'm not saying you'll put 20 pounds on your bench or anything like that, but you'll probably be able to add 5 pounds minimum to everything. It's like a super effective preworkout supplement.
