Who do you think will be the most important and stand out player during the 2012 London Olympics?

I say Westbrook... no bias what so ever, I just feel like there is no one who can guard him on the other teams.. and we all know hes the best defensive PG in the league.. so I expect him to play fearless and relentless at both ends of the court.

Who do you think will be the "MVP" ?

Lmao no bias whatsoever? Says the guy who just made a thread about how Westbrook is the best pg in the league and it isnt even close.

Durant, but when the game gets close in the 4th quarter of the gold game again, they'll just give the ball to Kobe so he can score 13 again in just the 4th. So a tie, Durant/Kobe

But still it would be cool to get the regular season MVP, NBA Championship, Finals MVP, Olympic gold and Olympics MVP in one year.

he melts down at the end of the seasons for a reason... he needs some rest dude. the fact that he just had a dominating season in a shortened season speaks volumes. let him enjoy being 3rd or 4th guy on a gold team.

Coach K,

Without him they ain't winning shit.

Coach K = guy that can be replaced by 25 US coaches

Most valuable = whoever proved to be able to guard opposing power forwards. It may have to be Lebron because team USA obviously hates powerforwards that are at least average on defense...that is why they brought none.

LeBron. He was the best player on the '07 and '08 team too. His defensive versatility and transition dominance translates very well in the international game.

Wrong. Totally wrong. So wrong you should delete your account. If you're telling me someone could go into Duke and 25 other coaches in the US could do his job he's done there? I don't know what you're thinking. LOL

I didn't know that there was an Olympics MVP award. I would say the best player in the world will likely be the MVP if there is an official award. Otherwise this is completely subjective, and LeBron could get 18/5/5 on 60%, and Kobe could get 10/1/1 on 30% and he would be the MVP if he has one good quarter.

Wow, Coach K is vastly overrated on this board. :facepalm

Great coach? Sure. But people act like he built the program from scratch. They were making Final Fours there before K. You know that, right?

9 of his last 11 teams have only made it to the Sweet 16 or less (1 championship). 3 of those teams didn't even get past the first weekend, including 2 first round exits. Which is great if you coach at a place like Wisconsin. But for the hype that man gets and for a team has been supposedly at their peak this last decade +, it's pretty damn overrated if you ask me.

Could 25 other coaches do his job as well as he has? I don't know. But I could name 8-10 others who could have done it better in the last decade with the talent he has had.

Before you ask (no specific order): Izzo, Calhoun, Roy, Cal, Huggins, Pitino, Matta, Cremins, and Self. There's 9 that I can confidently say would do at least an equal job of 2+ Elite Eights or further in 11 years.

All of whom, save Huggins and Cremins have done better than that in the last 11 years. At less prestigious jobs (Roy some at KU and Cal some at Memphis, both less prestigious than Duke). And I left out some obvious choices.

Not to mention the shitty job he did as Greece ran over the USA and he did nothing.

Lebron and Wade led the charge last time and Durant in the World Championships so I'd guess those two should be the two top guys this time around.

I say Westbrook... no bias what so ever, I just feel like there is no one who can guard him on the other teams.. and we all know hes the best defensive PG in the league.. so I expect him to play fearless and relentless at both ends of the court.

LOL at OP. While it's true that nobody can guard Westbrook, that statement also holds true for Durant, Lebron, Wade, Paul, Kobe, etc. Westbrook won't play enough minutes to sniff MVP.

It think they've won every game under coach K big except for the disgraceful beating to Greece. Going into that they acted like it was real important but after getting beat it was just a stepping stone to the Olympics.

Way to totally cherry pick the 11 years period to avoid another National Championship at 12 years, and an NCAA finals appearance at 14... only rivaled in that span by Jim Calhoun/UCONN(3 rings/1 other final four) and Roy Williams (2 rings/1 runner ups/2 other final fours). You can also go back however many years further beyond the also totally arbitrary 14 year span and coach K is going to be considered at least one of the best, but more likely THE best during that particular span of years.

Also on the note of the talent K had: Compare his 4 championships to Deans Smith (an all-time great coach) who has 2 ships while having some of the most absurd collections of future NBA hall of famers and multiple top 5 draft picks on his teams...

Doubt he'll even get any PT in the clutch once they get deep in the tournament. CP3 or DWill will be out there.

Hard to say. Navarro and Fernandez were burning defensive stopper Kobe play after play in the gold medal game. They might have to put Russell in there for defense.
