I don't know. I think ball security is a HUGE part of ballhandling and CP3 is significantly better than AI there. AI may of had flashy handles and a better cross but CP3 not only can nearly match him there but also doesn't lose the ball. A defender would have a much easier time stealing the ball from AI than CP3. CP3's ball shielding with his body is something AI didn't use much.

AI never played pick n roll as good as most point guards everything he did was ISO. Its hard to compare him to someone that plays like a point guard is suppose to be played, AI is a scorer with a great crossover there is more to ball handling than a crossover.

PleezeBelieve
07-08-2012, 08:25 PM
Watch Kyrie with the ball and watch Iverson. It's nothing close. Kyrie is seamless with his handle. Iverson was more attacking with his dribble. Kyrie goes anywhere he wants. The dude has the best handles since Isiah Thomas.

And being much bigger offensive threat that could destroy you in a minute, and not like CP3 who was never a big time scorer like AI, plays big role in comparing the two, because almost every game, defense's main focus was AI because he had such shitty teammates who could not score anything.

Umm, no its not. Kyrie is really on a different level than any player I've seen in the current generation. He doesn't waste dribbles trying to set the next one up. He does what he needs to with the bounce in a very efficient yet creative manner.

After watching him for a full season, I have little doubt that in a couple of years he will be thought of as having the best handle in the game. His change of direction is plain nasty and he never looks like he is out of control, regardless of how fast he is moving or what he is doing with the basketball.

I was really shocked by his handle his rookie year. I knew he was a damn good player with a beautiful jumper and explosive first step, but I didn't know just how skilled a ball handler he is.

These moves are OK... He's had a lot nicer stuff, though... Not showing off in the open court during exhibitions, but slicing through traps and doubles on the perimeter.

Sky is the limit for this guy.

I would be shocked if Deron had the sheer volume of highlights just based on his handle after his rookie season.

Don't get me wrong... Deron is a great player. A lot of his game is based on power and aggression, though, whereas Kyrie is mainly finesse.

And, again... If Kyrie is even being compared to Deron after one year in the NBA, that is pretty good company to be in.

Kyrie Irving part of U.S. Olympic plans -- in 2016: Cavaliers Insider

http://media.cleveland.com/plain-dealer/photo/2012/01/10486373-large.jpg

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- As part of the U.S. select team, practicing against the U.S. Olympic squad, Cavaliers point guard Kyrie Irving was never actually part of the Olympic talent pool this time around. But that won't be the case in 2016.

In a teleconference with reporters immediately after the 2012 men's Olympic basketball team was announced at its training camp in Las Vegas, USA Basketball Chairman Jerry Colangelo and Olympic coach Mike Krzyzewski said Irving was very much in the picture in future Games.

"He's already made quite an impression, let's put it that way," Colangelo said. "He's a terrific young player. I see great things for him going forward as it relates to an NBA career and very much within USA Basketball. I think we're going to hear a great deal about him in the future."

Krzyzewski coached Irving at Duke, at least for the 11 games he played after missing most of his freshman season with a toe injury.

"I love Kyrie," Krzyzewski said. "I wish I was able to coach him a full season. I think he's one of the outstanding players in the NBA right now, not just the Rookie of the Year."

Because Irving was born in Australia while his father was playing professional basketball there, he had the option to pursue playing for Australia in the Olympics, but it was a more-complicated process than just declaring his intention to do so. Because he had played for USA Basketball's national U-18 team, he would have needed a waiver from FIBA in order to play for Australia.

Irving talked to Krzyzewski while trying to decide what to do.

"When he was making a decision as to whether or not to play for the United States or for Australia I told him that I believed he eventually will be a starting guard for the U.S. team at some time in his career and for him just to get involved with the whole process," Krzyzewski said. "He's as good a player as the select team has and has shown his talents very, very well here. He's outstanding and he's a terrific, terrific young man."

I'm not doubting Irving, he is a young star.
But that vid doesnt impress me, the defenders are doing a token full court press and while he navigates it pretty well, he did much better dribble moves in serious nba games last season that showed me his dribbling abilities.
All defenders in the gif played it very poorly, legs staright and reaching, dunno what Harden was doing.
Does look cool as Bryant and Durant are semi guarding him though.
Patty Mills for Australia would have blown right past them in a similar fashion. USA wont be employing that D with Bryant and Durant at the front in real games. Iggy and Lebron would have been better.

I don't think so, but like I said above... He rarely loses control of the ball, even in the event of something like that happening. As you can see by the gif, he regained the dribble almost immediately. He has that rare ability to make it look easy... Almost like he is moving in slow motion with his dribbles, but you look up and he's blown by everyone.
